I don't think anyone has come up with such a topic yet, so here it is

Let's inaugurate it with toll plazas located in the Paris region. Most highways are toll free and major toll plazas are some 40-50-60 kms from downtown Paris on major turnpikes connecting Paris with other major French cities

1st is the Montesson toll plaza on the A14 tollway (La Défense - Orgeval)

Okay, so  its not really a toll plaza, but its the closest to one(without going as far as ferry terminals) in my region. Its a payment system for the Stockholm Congestion Tax Trial(Yes... 4 billion SEK on a trial), thats most likly going down this autum.

We do have some real toll-plazas down by "Oeresundsbron" in Malmoe. The brige connecting Sweden to Continental europe(Unless you want to drive an 5000km trip north then back soulth or go by ferry). Il leave that for the Malmoeians or Copenhagieans to post ^^

The Öresund Bridge has obscene tolls, 275SEK or what was it at the start? Obscene. I guess everyone takes the train across; the traffic on the bridge is still very light.

The new Svinösundsbridge to Norway is also tolled, although it features a rather sane price at 20SEK to pass through the tollplaza (about 3$). This is terrifying development seeing as some evil-minded politicians surely would not back off from making tolled motorways legal (tollways are currently illegal) and we'll see dreaded tolled roads popping up everywhere! What an infernal nightmare! However, luckily, traffic on the Swedish inter-city routes are often light (due to low population density); even the most trafficed routes such as E4 and Road 40 between Jönköping and Borås hardly sees enough traffic to break even using tolls.

However, a toll for only trucks would be a prefeered project, as the lorries are the vehicles that destroy the roads the most, are the noisest and pollute the most. It's also quite scary to pass by a speeding lorry... Tolls for lorries was recently implented on the German federal motorways (Autobahn), and it will also help to further make sure freight traffic passes by train instead of truck.

The world needs less tolls. The French autoroutes are also very expensive, while they are neatly designed, they have very few exits, even the Italian autostrade toll motorways have more exits and junctions... and that's not saying alot. Traffic on most french autoroutes seems very light, probably due to the obscene tolls; traffic on the N and D roads that alternate the autoroutes is probably much denser.

No tolls in my area (although they are proposed on the Bakersfield and Sacramento ends of CA-99)...then again the roads are quickly falling apart and congestion is getting exponentially worse. California seems to love teachers, firefighters, and police officers. But when it comes to transit, forget it. You can't even take rail through the Grapevine section of the I-5 (I recently blew an engine driving this route...hehe). You have to transfer on to a bus.

This is the toll plaza that closest to me, the Newburgh-Beacon bridge on I-84 in the Hudson Valley. It is about 30 minutes to the west of me. I think you have to pay $1.25 to cross it (only pay going eastbound to CT).

You want toll plazas? I'll give you toll plazas! And I won't even steal the pictures from other websites; as always, all pictures that I post are my own.

This is the Trenton-Morrisville Bridge on US-1 across the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This bridge, along with several others across the Delaware, is operated by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. Yes, I am headed straight for the EZPass lanes. You may be able to notice how dilapidated the pavement is; this bridge is due for major reconstruction next year. Toll is 75 cents, or 60 cents with EZPass:

sttollplazamorrisville7nf.jpg

Approaching the Pennsylvania Turnpike on I-283 southbound (the Harrisburg East Interchange of the Turnpike). The PA Turnpike is a ticket toll road. You take a ticket and pay a toll based on how far you drive. Of course, with EZPass, you don't have to worry about any of that; you just pass straight through:

sttollplazai2830ca.jpg

Here we're approaching another entrance to the PA Turnpike, this time the Denver Interchange (yes, that's Denver in Pennsylvania, not in Colorado). In both this picture and the one above, notice the yellow light above the EZPass Only lanes (it's actually a flashing yellow), instead of a green light:

sttollplazapatpus2228wb.jpg

This is the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge along I-84 (or officially named the Hamilton Fish Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, after a former governor of New York State). Run by the New York State Bridge Authority, it is one of several toll crossings over the Hudson River. Looks like there was some construction going on at the time of this picture (about two years ago); I haven't been there since, so I don't know what it looks like now. Toll is $1; no EZPass discount:

sttollplazabeaconnewburgh4pe.jpg

Approaching the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore, Maryland, on I-95. It's a bit distant, but you can see that the toll plaza spans the width of the picture. This tunnel is actually four tubes of two lanes each, so it's 2 x2 lanes in each direction. Completed in the 1980's, it's the newest of the Baltimore Harbor crossings and was a major reliever to the old Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (which is still in operation via the Harbor Tunnel Thruway). Toll is $2; no EZPass discount:

sttollplazaftmchenry3ey.jpg

Finally, you can't really see the toll plaza here (if you squint, you can see way off in the background), but I wanted to show an Express EZPass set up. This is the Garden State Parkway southbound in New Jersey at the Pascack Valley Toll Plaza. The Garden State Parkway is gradually implementing one-way tolling and open road tolling at all its toll plazas to help ease traffic concerns. Toll is 35 cents here, one of only three two-way toll plazas left on the GSP; at the other eight toll plazas, you pay 70 cents in one direction and nothing the other way:

sttollplazapascackval5jl.jpg

Hmmm... I thought I had a few more than that, but it's all I can find for now.

Big traffic jam in Holiday

Don't forget the density in france is one of lowest in Europe.

Hey, electronic toll plazas count.

Now, electronic toll collection in the US is interesting. Many states and agencies have started their own separate systems which are not interconnected. That thing which lets you pay tolls electronically in Florida is useless to you in Georgia. As the second Golden Gate bridge photo shows, "FasTrak" is California's system. Some other the other photos show the system which started in the New York area but has since then assimilated basically the entire Northeast: EZPass.  ...actually, "assimilated" isn't really the right word, no takeovers have occurred. Each agency still issues their own transponders, they're just all cooperating to be on the same network.

But look at this map and you'll see why I used that word.

A lot of the electronic collection is just with classic toll lanes that have had the technology installed, but gradually "EZPass express lanes", which you can just drive through at 40-50 mph instead of slowing to a crawl and perhaps waiting in line first are popping up. This photo shows this at the North end of the New Jersey Turnpike's western spur (Exit 18W), toward the left. The one on the eastern spur (exits 16E and 18E) doesn't have that yet. This photo shows the advance sign warning of the split.

The express lane is equipped with cameras and if you drive through them without a transponder it takes a picture of your license plate and sends you a bill in the mail- thing is, this is not just getting sent the bill- it's considered a fine for a traffic violation. Do it too many times and your driver's license can be suspended. If you don't have a transponder, you're expected to pull aside to stop and use the classic toll lanes.

The different EU system should supposedly be consolidated through the CAESARE IV project which is now ongoeing (yep, they've had three prior to this one with the same goal).

You can now use the same system in Norway and Denmark (Great Belt link and Oresund link, shared with Sweden), plus the three most important ferry lines in Denmark/Denmark-Sweden.

And there is of course a map available, which shows the insane amount of toll plazas in Norway contra Sweden and Denmark.

in the DFW metro area, we use tolltag (local agency) and txtag (state) both of which work together...we have or are converting plazas to contain express lanes at every toll plaza...the express lanes are for tolltag and txtag customers and maintain full speed (usually 60-65 mph) in order to reduce congestion...there are cash lanes off to the side...

we also have one highway that is all electronic (even if you don't have a tag) they are still working out the obvious bugs with the system including if someone from another state is driving the car, or if the car is a rental, or if someone borrows your car...

When I travel to the northside of Brisbane Aus, I have to go over what we call the Gateway Bridge. It's a massive bridge which is currently being duplicated. It's 3 lanes each way with the toll booth on the southern side. The toll booth itself is 9 lanes each way. 3 Etoll lanes, 4 Manual (cash) lanes and 2 Automatic lanes (throw the money in). Either side of the bridge is 3 lanes of traffic but it merges into 2 lanes after an exit on either side of the bridge. IT'S SILLY! If you're ever on the Southside of Brisbane and need to get to the airport, TAKE THE TRAIN!

This is the toll plaza on the GW. Fortunately, it only is on one side, and charges a double toll, since most trips are round trips, you pay the same amount of money, and it reduces traffic.

^^^Actually, that's one of only three toll plazas for the GW Bridge. In particular, it's the lower level toll plaza. The upper level has its own separate plaza, and traffic coming from the Palisades Parkway onto the bridge also passes through its own dedicated toll plaza.

As for the "one side only" thing, all Hudson river crossings south of the NYS Thruway Berkshire spur upstate (which is free, not counting the Thruway toll) charge a toll eastbound only. This is such that even if you go east one way and west another, you still pay a toll once and exactly once. Although what the toll is varies from crossing to crossing so there is a potential to save some money there.

Back in the day (like, the 90's) the toll on the GW Bridge was $4.00 for cars. I know it's more than that now, but I don't know exactly what it is since it's been years since I've physically paid it. EZPass handles it automatically now.

Tolls are somewhat rare in the UK, Northern Ireland has not got any at all. Then again we do already pay a lot in terms of fuel duty and road tax.

Most in the UK are for bridges. There are a little more common in the Republic of Ireland and mainly in and around Dublin. Primarily to help pay for expensive new projects such as the Dublin Port Tunnel and the Belfast-Dublin Motorway.
