Nice to see EJC's back with this Ruhrgebiet CJ. Unfortunately, I guess the Paris CJ is over... unless I missed sth. Just to help, here are a few pix of the SIgnal Iduna Park (ex-Westfalenstadion) in Dortmund and the Veltins Arena (ex-Arena auf Schalke) in Gelsenkirchen. As far as I'm concerned, I think the debate over which country has the best freeways/motorways/expressways/tollways/turnpikes or whatever you call them is useless. As a French citizen, I admit French autoroutes are, for the most part of them, amazing and it's pure pleasure driving them. It is true though that freeways in the Paris metro are poorly maintained and designed although the emphasis has been put on that for more than a decade. In any event, for those complaining that there are no freeways crossing downtown historical Paris, all that I can say is "Would you like a double decker or sunken freeway to be built right next Notre-Dame or to cross the Champs-Elys

In France, the broadest freeway portion is the 12-lane A6 running through suburbs south of Paris (from Arcueil to Wissous) on approximately 7 kms. At some points, it even briefly turns into a 13-14 lane freeway. I don't know whether it's the widest in Europe or not. A few cases from my country, France: Paris vs Marseille (the arrogant capital city vs the rebellious mediterranean second largest French city) Lyon vs Saint-Etienne Nantes vs Rennes (both claiming the title of Brittany's capital city) Rouen & Le Havre vs Caen (Northern Normandy vs Southern Normandy) Metz vs Nancy (Northern German-like Lorraine vs Southern Lorraine) Bordeaux vs Toulouse (both cities think they're south-western France's one and only metropolis)

Charles de Gaulle is... our former president... but also the biggest Paris airport some 20-25 kms north of inner Paris, the famous CDG for those who're used to flying to France. In France, we rather call it Roissy from the name of the suburban town it was built right next to.
