I saw a long time back a way to split the ave. so that you could run a rail or the GLR through the center of the ave. anyone know where that thread might be or how to do it?

my understanding is that rail or monorail can be used to remove a lane from a two-lane transit (like highway) so you can put GLR or another transit in the middle.

barring that, you can transition 1way road pretty easily.

yes but I was wondering what keys to use, or hold down so that you can split the highway or ave?

    1. Drag the ave/highway

    2. Drag rail over half of it before condtruction competes.

    3. Delete rail

You now have a single-tile ave/highway. Repeat to get another side.

Is this with NAM or can it be done without NAM?

i mad a spli avenue just 2day! first download the no one way road signs of the stex. It makes it look just like an aneue, then flatten out some space (for the glr) and make a split avenue. You can then add aGLR line thru the middle or monorail or elrail whatever! It looks great.

I tried this last night for the first time, since I just read about it yesterday, and it didn't work (I just get the rail line turning red)....same for the ground highway.

You have to place the rail (monorail) tile over one of the ave. tiles while it's under construction, and then delete the rail if you want, and presto, a one tile wide avenue.

May "look" ok, but a oneway is NOT half an avenue unless it's been mod'd. They have different stats.. you may not care in your case.

Here's the summary provided by another ST user:

Originally posted by: Bones1 Paperboy is correct. You can get the exact numbers from the exemplars. Don't believe the Prima Guide, as it's full of errors.

The exemplar breaks speed down into intervals of 25 minutes, and how far (in tiles) sims will commute in that time.

    For driving:

    Street: 21

    Road: 31

    One-way: 31

    Avenue: 40

    Highways: 82

(The distances are greater if the sims are traveling by bus.)

If you work out the speed, it's very slow! For example 31 tiles is only 496 metres. That works out to a driving speed of 1.19 km/h.

    Capacities are as follows:

    Street: 100

    Road: 1000

    One-way: 2000

    Avenue: 2500

    Highways: 4000

Those numbers are for a 1-tile strip. So, an avenue actually has a total capacity of 5000 (2500 in each direction). An avenue is thus both slightly faster and has slightly more capacity than two 1-way roads put together.

I think the numbers for roads and streets are in each direction. So, I don't think a 1-way road has any more capacity than a road, it simply allocates the entire capacity in a single direction. (I'm not positive on that point, though.)quote>

    Wonder about bridges.. 4.gif

I'm sitting at Simcity NOW and trying that.. it doen't work.. must be a further trick.. too bad we can't find the tutorial which was what started this thread.. 4.gif

Doesnn't work for either avenues or highways..

There used to be a way to overlay one corner of the "build footprint" to "chip away" a piece of highway, but I can't get that to work right now.. that may have been on SC3000? I do have the NAM installed, so that may be interfering with my "errant ways" This same "quarter-footprint" technique ussed to be how one build the on/off ramps too.. I think I'm getting too old.

Based on all this I'd guess 1-ways is your only shot.. but again, a 1-way is not half an avenue stat-wise.

Ahh.. ok here's the trick apparently (or at least 1 trick) Peeps were on the right track.. but you have to drag teh mono COMPLETELY thru end to end for the avenue/highway. And you do have to have the NAM apparently.  (I can't test easily without so I'll leave that to someone else)

Also it doesn't work on any bridges or curves as far as I can figure nor thru tunnels It also seems to screw up the ability to do interchanges or "remerges" of the highway, tho I am not POSITIVE that there may be some gimmick.. It does seem to me (without much testing) that the highway halves "forget" that they are programmed one way?? i say this because you can join "wrong way" one-ways to them. Also you can't do "butt ups" or s-curve merges from the halves since you have to drag the monorail COMPLETELY THRU the highway/avenue. It seems to me that once you have the "split half" straighaways, you're left with 1-way and road construction/transitions from then on to other parts fo your system.. This makes the "little pearl" only usable in  a rather restrictive sense.

I found a thread but it was never completed in 2003 so that may be a hint.. 4.gif

    1) drag out some avenue.
    19ez1.jpg

     2) drag rail down one side of the avenue (you dont have to do this while the avenue is under constuction)

    71dh.jpg

as you will see in step 5 you must have the beginning of the rail at least one square before the avenue.

       ==================                    =====    avenue
    _ ==================_                 ======     rail dragged over avenue
                                                                    _______   rail

    3) then delete the rail
    22zt.jpg

4)then drag another avenue next to it
    80mv.jpg

5)Then drag some rail down the middle lane
    31ru.jpg

if you want rail down the middle you have finished but if you want GLR down the middle  go to step 6 (the next one)

    6) delete the rail again
    96qg.jpg

7)set out the GLR like this.leaving 3 grid squares in between( this os if you want road to cross the GLR,This can be done no other way that i know of)
    52ym.jpg

8)drag road  from between one side of the avenue to the other in the center grid of each gap.
    60ry1.jpg
your road might not look like this it only looks like this for me because i have the euro road texture modd installed.
    .

    9) now fill in the gaps between the road and the GLR with more GLR.
    118jm.jpg

    10) now tab through the GLR pieces until you get the road level crossing and put them over the road pieces.

    123yu.jpg

    11) (optional) fill in the loose end pieces with one way.

    Sorry no picture

to do this with ground highway subsitute the avenu for the highway

to do this with elavated highay(it will not look right because one half will be floating in the air and the other will be on the suiports but will have some supports next to it) substitute avenue for e-highway and subsitute the rail for e rail or monorail.

    Hello, All.

Because of the "Building a Split Avenue" tutorial by warrior, I have pinned this thread to the top of the forum in order for it to be eaisly found.

Thank you, warrior, for the great tutorial.

wow, ok, I admit I never knew how to do that but always wondered. Now I have to make some plans for a multi lane highway project in my CJ. Thanks warrior!

There is another way to do the same thing:

    1) First create a length of elevated or monorail tracks.

    2) Then drag an avenue, ground highway or elevated highway so that it is half on top
of the tracks.   Make sure that it does not extend past the ends of the tracks.

    3) Drag the avenue, ground highway or elevated highway so that it is half on the tracks
and half on the other side.   You must start this drag before the starting position of the
other side.  In other words the starting position must be staggered so the second side
starts where there is no half avenue or half highway on the other side.

Neither of those methods described above are working for me. I'm pretty sure I'm following the instructions exactly, but when I try to drag the highway/rail over the rail/highway, it remains red. Help?

for my version you must drag the avenue completely over the rail

for smoncrie's version you must start draging avenue one grid

    blue= avenue

    red=el rail/monorail

red and blue= avenue dragged over el rail/monorail

has anyone made a puzzle piece so that you can extend a road or avenue over one of these half-highways?
