Because more than half of the postings in the GLR thread are about support questions, I opened a separate thread for support.

The MOD can be downloaded here:

Before asking, look if you can find the answer in the FAQ:

How has the GLR MOD to be installed and what is required?
At first you have installed all the updates provided by Maxis. Then you need to install the Network Addon Mod in it's latest version. You'll find it on the GLR homepage. Then, you can use the GLR MOD. Unzip it and put the folder into the ModFiles folder of the NAM.

How can I use translations?
Download a translation file and unzip it! Move the DAT file inside there into the GLR folder. It is an additional file and no replacement for the GLR MOD.

Stations are not UDI compatible and I can't see any trains passing it.
You need to drag an elevated railway track through the lot. Then it works.

The game crashes often when I try to place puzzle pieces.
There is a bug in SimCity. Prevent the mouse cursor from hovering it over station lots (including bus stops and railway stations) and save your city before placing glr pieces!

I cannot find the GLR menu or it's empty
Either you use the wrong NAM version or you placed the GLR mod into the wrong directory. You have to look for the puzzle pieces in the misc networks menu beyond the button for the double decker puzzle pieces. You'll find it in the first quarter of the menu contents.

how to build bridges and connections to other cities
It is not and won't be possible to build water bridges or connections to other cities using puzzle piece. To build bridges or connections to other cities, you have to connect elevated rail tracks using the el-to-ground puzzle piece.

can I use newer NAM versions than the recommended version on the homepage?
The GLR MOD itself works with newer NAM versions but you will only have access to the puzzle pieces of the previous NAM version while there is no update for the GLR.

When will the GLR MOD be integrated into the NAM?
Is there any responsible person here we can ask for an inclusion? We don't know how to contact the maintainers of the latest NAM versions. While long-gone NAM developers came back to ST, the developers of the latest version are still unreachable.

How much work is it the include a new puzzle piece?
If you can give a texture for a new puzzle piece to us, it is less than five minutes of work. If you want to create textures, they have optically to fit with the others.

I see boxes instead of signals when placing street crossings
There is a small bug on the ALPHA 3 which will be fixed in ALPHA 4 again. Everything works fine if you don't place the crossing pieces in ZOOM size 3.

Expand that to include: Try looking under the El-rail over road menu entry... it may have ended up there.

I will use this thread instead of the main one for support.

Does the GLR Mod disable passenger rail appearing in my city. I lay tracks, place original simcity stations (the red ones) and i can't udi with trains or even see any running along the tracks? Thanks.

The GLR does not influence this. If the train UDI is disabled (grey icon), you have possibly installed a MOD for additional vehicles or anything else vehicle-depending what makes UDI impossible. If you get a blue message, that the UDI mission is not possible yet, nothing is wrong.

I swear I have the GLR mod in the correct directory, I'll post a screenshot if you don't believe me. But it still won't show up in game. I downloaded the NAM provided on your site and I have an icon, but it just won't work. The cursor is red and there is a white highlight around the square I am hovering over but it just won't work. Anything else that is necessary that I haven't picked up on? I do have the updates.

If the NAM is installed correctly, the only thing I can think of is that non-NAM files are conflicting with it.

The directory with the GLR MOD has to be placed into th ModFiles subdirectory of the NAM. That has been discussed before. This problem occurs when you place the GLR into the main NAM directory.

i think i have the same problem as muzz. when i downloaded the modd i didnt get a default folder though, i had to make my own, would this matter? my GLR folder is in the modfiles section of the NAM, v. 03/08/05. the stations work fine, but when i try to place the rail section(which is at the top of my misc. rail menu) i just get an empty square with a white outline and a red arrow. any help would be great as i am building a new large city and would like to incorporate this into it.

Try removing the ZIP file (or zipped folder, as Windows XP calls it) out of the folder that is displayed in your screenshot (move it entirely out of the plugins folder, as well as other zipped mod files, such as the NAM download). Maybe Windows handles these ZIPs like real folders, and SimCity tries to read them and gets confused by the doubled files.

I think the problem you guys are having is because the NAM and the GLR mod are seperate. Try putting ALL of the NAM & GLR main mod files in the same folder. (I've got the stations in their own folders in the NAM folder) This is how mine are placed in the Plugins Folder:
    nam%20folder.JPG
And having it like this works just fine for me.
People having trouble getting it to work, try this & I hope it helps fufill your dream of elevated rail travelling on the ground!3.gif

How do you get the on-slope puzzle pieces?
    quote>

I'm curious too. I can find and use all the other GLR pieces, but rumor has it the on-slope (flat overpasses for sunken highways) pieces are in this set too. Specifically what menu are they located in?

    Thanks! 1.gif

They are located in the road and railway puzzle piece menu icons. Just press [TAB] repeatedly, they will appear at the end of the cycle. You can also press [sHIFT] + [TAB] to turn around the rotation cycle, so they will come first.

You should check out my tutorial over at Dudys site.. it shows you exactly what you need to know in regards to making these sunken highways and how create those overpasses you'll need to make it look neat and realistic like the picture below. It has detailed pictures of where to find these pieces and where to place them.  Hope it can help you.

I assure that is not eye candy.. the GLR mod is fully functional... as you can see in the picture above there are actually 2 police cars comming off of one side of the bridge overpass and an ambulance comming off of another section of it.

Question: What's with the lane markings on the avenue overpass in the pic DuskTrooper posted? I'm referring to the fact that there's double yellow lines where it seems it should be a single dashed white line (to delineate lanes going the same way, no?)

You can actually only use one train vehicle MOD at one time or the tram vehicle MOD which can be downloaded on the homepage in my signature. It replaces the El-Train with a tram.

Actually, it is impossible to have multiple types of monorail-, el- or passenger trains in the game because the game mixes cars of all trains together.

On the tram vehicle MOD, more trams will be added in the future but only trams in form of an one-car-train. The trick we used on it is to replace the default el-car with a transparent 1x1x1-model so you'll only see engines and we can add other engines.

Texture and model has to use a static group ID (and a free Instance ID with that combination) and an Exemplar file is used. You can try to clone the Exemplar of the standard el-train engine; then to change the instance ID of it and inside just to replace the name of it and the reference to the new Engine model.
