Update 63 - Santa Neyorka; A love Story

 

Part 3 - For Dong Sung

  It has been a long time since the Triad, Vu and Sadina were really together.  The hurricane smashed the city of Santa Neyorka very hard, killing all that tried to start against it.  However, in the stench of darkness came the aroma of light - and the great & powerful project X-2 had been activated, and the aliens were completely destroyed.  The hurricane broke up and blew into the bay of Neyorka, flooding it and parts of LP, but, eventually, the cities repaired themselves and they returned to normal - before venturing into the future.

 

  6 years on, and life is grooming itself again in Santa Neyorka, and the criminal element slowly returns along with San Portello's saviour of all time... Dr. Vuvarious.

  Vu & Dong Wing steeped off the train and shook hands, before hugging very tightly and expressing gratitude for what they have done for one another. The Triads are indebted to you for your great work, you did a great deed, and as we promised, you are free from our grasp forever.

  Thankyou Dong Wing, let's cherish this moment, and exchange compliments like normal people... for once? Dong Wing nodded. I have never known such a freind like yourself... except... No...

  Sadina? Vu nodded hoarsely. As my return compliment, I say that you have been a great ally, and I will serve with you until the next rain comes and the seasons die out. As a gift of our freindship, I found the last location of Sadina...

  Setting across the underground network into the city, Vu came across a small town, west of the Bay, and last known location of Sadina.

  Vu didn't realise the crispness of this sleepy town, under the shadow of an empire far greater than expected to be fought against, nor did he realise that as soon as he left the station, he stood in front of Sadina's last ever house.  Vu carefully trudged into the apartments, and looked for Sadina's apartment number.

  Finding number 767, Vu knocked, susprised to be let in by the wind.

  Sadina? Vu called, to no reply.  Instead, he found an apartment blown to smithereens or at least torn apart head-to-toe, and in front of Vu, sat a note...

 

Greetings admirable advisary,

I have had enough of this game, thus, it is time to finish it man-to man.

As you can see we have your girlfreind and if you want to see her alive,

Cross the highway bridge and get to the Muguku-Wundai Residential tower overlooking the Marina,

There you will find me,

Waiting for an apology...

  Regards, Cuttingwood??? Vu was suprised and afraid at this note.  But, he had no choice but to answer the note and go to the tower, to meet his faceless enemy he thought had died...

  Vu stood patiently before the silenced desk of Cuttingwood, the back of a tall chair facing him, hiding Cuttingwood's entire existance.  Cuttingwood began to speak, Greetings sir, I trust you read my note?

  I did, and it's why I am here. Vu replied with tension of the two bulky guards beside him.

  Indeed, and, like I promised, your girfreind... Cuttingwood opened the door beside Vu, and there Sadina sat on a chair tied together and silenced by tape - eternally greatful that Vu was alive... for a little while though.

  Suddenly, the chair spun round to reveal a face torn by war - a huge scar that took the man's right eye and chin. YOU EXPECT TO COME HERE AND WALK OUT WITHOUT MY VENGANCE? Te man had stood up and was crushing the fabric of the desk before him. You took everything from me! SM~5 was a legacy - and you ruined it!

  SM~5 was a terrorist group intenet on destroying this very coutnry becuase of what it did to you, is this the price everyone had to pay before you realised you were being irrational?

  A true leader- Cuttingwood denied.

  -A menace to society! Vu fought.

  A war hero!

  -A villan! Vu was punched in the gut and sent to the floor.  There Cuttingwood stood before Vu like a gaint as he pettily lay on the floor.  Cuttingwood kicked Vu in the same spot, and walked over to the window that overlooked the marina.

  I had a dream of SM~5... A legacy... He looked hard into the Bay, looking at nothing but the Marina. A coporation supplying power to the world - a corporation that ran the world - Shingdu...

  You're insane! Vu shouted back at him, before being kicked again.

  I have my trophy right here... this very city... And when you're not watching, I'll avenge SM~5 and create Shingdu... Suddenly, the penthouse door was smashed open to at least a dozen FBI agents dressed in SWAT uniforms, shouting freeze to everyone but Vu & Sadina.  In the chaos, Cuttingwood was arrested, and VU & Sadina shared the one true moment where everything was pure... A love.

 

However, another year passed, and, in a mystic turn of events, Cuttingwood escaped prison, and planned his revenge... Thus, we begin the final Act of our tale, fighting Shingdu's vision until the very last man...

  Cuttingwood overlooked Santa Neyorka in all of it's newfound glory - and for once he admired it.  His men flying and protecting the plane, Cuttingwood wrote up his tedious plans to take over the world and run it in Shingdu's name.  Dong Sung saw this coming - SM~5 was a wakening, but this was the vision that killed him...

  So it's back to civilisation... All the polotics, and everything I hate.

Slowly but surely, the smallest business began to fall under Shingdu's control... Motels, small cinemas, those tiny little fishmongers by the sea that sell that delicious cornbreak stuffed with salmon. Yummy...

  And then he preyed back onto the police - it started as drug curruption and money-laundring, until certain departments had to surrender their power to Shingdu under threat of open legal action. Shingdu was spreading like a plauge, a silent plauge, until Cuttingwood hit his ultimate Jackpot...

  The Neyorkan Stadium! When he had that in his twisted grasp, Cuttingwood smiled and decided: It's time for renactment. And, like that, Shingdu was made public and across the globe it began to buy, buy, buy everything from the ground up.

 

Who's going to save humanity now?

 

Shingdu Corporation is ready to take over...

Update 64 - Hurricane Carl; Past-tense

 

The chairman of the Hurricane commitee was the first to stand among the other democrates, republicans and aid-workers.  It wasn't his usual speech during such a moments occasion... why? Becuase Hurricane Carl was stopped at 12:01 PM, October 24th, year 250.

  Just two hours ago I was talking to you about how we'd refurbish our great city, now that any theat of destruction is now gone. The chairman began. In just the two hours the hurricane committe sat down and decided on a master plan to rebuild the north of Los Porablos - Santa Neyorka.  Ladies and gentlemen, we have that plan...

64.2 The first stratagey was to clean up the worst-hit area of the city, the bay area.  It was ransaked completly but it was already wasteland before the hurricane even hit.

 

  The Neyorka Casino didn't do too nicely to land areas beofre the hurricane, so we are going to rezone and make most of the square area a park & golfing green. The plan in this aspect was urged to do well, and it was followed throguh completely...

64.3 Neyorka Bay Hotel & Casino's golf course & park area, covering what could be covering 1/100th of the city's real estate.  The whole plan was followed through and expanded.

64.4 Even hollywood wanted to get in on the act, with showcases from Beverly Heights, Georgetown Centreplex and even the Ventura strip.

  The next strategy is to bring back business, and with the park & golf course the real estate would gain in value, and attract the business loved by nature lovers.

  The next phase of our plan is to regerate the highway concourse, which originally barely linked west & east, but with the plan, not only does it link the two main sides, it intersects with north & south very well as identified by the predicted transport map...

64.8 Now the stadium grants passage to the highway very lightly, offering technical intersections & even powerful transwerfers to upper & lower levels of the city.

 

  Next we will concentrate on demolishing highly-affected buildings, and allowing developments to shawn their way through the city...

Hey nealos. I like the parks a lot, especially the Country Club in your first picture. It looks so great with the red cobble stones and the little details such as the swimming pool and the tennis courts. I also like the region view a lot. The city has improved so much since Carl. Great job.

Sorry for double post, but a long-awaited update of San Portello is due, and slowly but surely, the date is closing in when I can get access to my better computer and take it back to Uni with me.  So expect more updates next year (Im hoping!).

 

Im not too sure of coursework yet but there will definetly be some, but Ill try and work in-between for you guys.

 

Thanks for all of your support and sorry to quite a few people that I have dissapointed, but I'll be back shortly and I will try my best for you all!!!

Update 65 - The Great Water Crisis

 

My apologies people but my new computer does not have the thing I really need atm... Photoshop... Heck, any photoshopping tool will do me but I don't have it - but golly, SC4 is really something on this comp.  Im back for a bit now, and should be able to fit in some updates... here goes...

 

11:45 AM, Eastern SimSeaboard Time, 12/1/Year 267

 

It wasn't exactly spring but it would do for a season like winter - the trees had lost all their dying leaves and already the San Portello commision of affairs was given a serious notice...

 

Dear Sirs,

 

We regret to inform you that the main water line that is supplied from Wales, approximatly 3,486 miles from here, has been destroyed by a sunken oil vessel on the coast of the Virgin's Islands close to your main location in Georgetown. STOP

 

We apologise no longer as a United body for Wales & her majesty's water service, but as a national government supporting your developing state and soon to be great nation.  The queen herself sends her kindest thoughts at this moment, and, at approximatly 12:00 noon, your water supply coming from wales will run out. STOP

 

We advise immediate action to conquest the coming problem, and we expect to restore the water main in roughly under 7 months time. STOP

 

Our sincerest apologies yet again,

 

HM's Board of Trustees for water service. END

 

It was a terrible time for San Portello, and, as the clock struck noon, the water from every household across the state ran out.  Every city across the state began a yellow alert as their auxillery stations kicked in and began pumping & treating water, and... by 12 midnight... a small but useful speck of water reached one and every household.

65.1 For Porablos, Georgetown, Fernandes and Ventura, this drought only cut for a few hours, after that it was smoothe sailing and reserves began to fill.  However, Neyorka suffered a serious loss, becuase at midnight, when all the other cities were being supplied, Neyorka was bone dry.

 

A maintenance company working under (Obviously) Shingdu, failed to check the backup water pumps at the Greenwald Resevoir - so, as a consequence, the pumps failed to kick in and the water waiting at the resevoir just sat there.

65.2 Outside cities tried to help but Neyorka had put itself in a loophole that was trying to kick itself.  You see, many people beleived that the resevoir was freshwater and free of contaminants, however, excess sediment that had failed to settle to the bottom got inside every drinker's immune system, and this rose to serious illnesses like HIV, Mogo-Hunta, Influensa, Hajh, and the nutorious CC5-B.

 

The desiese didn't kill, but it led to alot of people off sick and thirsty.  The jobs began to loose their potential, the manufacturing facilities couldn't run, the treatment plants couldn't work fast enough.  Shingdu was faced with a problem they was not expecting to get this far - Mass-death.

65.3 In the morning of month 2, things were getting very serious.  The riots people didn't want to talk about suddenly exploded, and the water supply which was pumping the same amount the other cities were, was being used up too quickly due to panic.

 

Shingdu now decided to take advantage of it's original plan - and, with the water company facing disaster, Shingdu bought it and began mass-building heavy water centres on the shores of the residential & commercial shores of Neyorka.  In a few weeks water was beginning to bustle and hustle the mega-business into a huge takeover.

65.4 Shingdu spread through the rest of Neyorka like a plauge, and, with the smaller, local business in it's grasp, Shingdu then took control of the undertaker fully, and began it's next step up by buying the HSE - Health & Safety Executive.

 

With the HSE in Shingdu's grasp, it was a matter of more months before the Neyorkan government had to obide by Shingdu's vastness.  With the water supply pumping it's greatest since 207, Shingdu cut all dependancy from outside supply of water.  With it's new found power, Shingdu then sought after the big business like PorDonalds, Massivsoft, Junkie-Wan Inc, and other Portello-found multi-million corporations.  The water supply was still not 100% effective, though.

65.5 Then, Shingdu took the most serious business decision in history by buying the whole of Neyorka's Zoolife financial quater - the city's top organisational centre except from Frogface Financial.  However, Shingdu wasted no time in buying up it's stocks, it took on Market head on.

 

Market, the successor of the economic battle, protected the Neyorkan government by buying Shingdu's shares in the HSE, Water Undertaker and Local Zoo.  In moments Shingdu lost it's global power, and was now just another super company, waiting for the right time to act.  The water was still not 100%, but the city itself was starting to become totally dependant...

65.6 The undertaker's tower - seen here on the right not abandoned, protected itself from Shingdu's onslaught by seeping the water from the Earth's water table.  Shingdu had lost it's most important battle in the economic wars of Santa Neyorka, but it was not giving up there...

 

With Shingdu silenced, the city finally returned to normal, when, on month 7, as promised, the water main between Simnation & the United Kingdom was restored.  The water is still not 100% affective, but nothing is perfect is it?

65.7 In accordance with the new Corporation Classification Regulations (250.2.3), no government body could be bought through any economic action at any time.  This protected all governments from Shingdu, but didnt protect them from super-takeover.  As a reaction procedure for the disease that had spread throughout Neyorka, the city paid millions to the transport network to ferry passengers going to hospital for free.

 

The Government and Stockmarket stabalised and returned to normal, and, Neyorka began to expand again through every age thinkable.  It would acheive economic glory like all cities, and then fall to the bottomless pits, to only rise up again.  This is not how Georgetown acts, Georgetown is a superpower amungst cities, but it is also a curse.

65.8 New neighborhoods are cropping up everywhere like flowers in spring, but it isn't even spring yet.  The retail corporations are working hard to defeat Shingdu, and hell, they always do.

 

But how long till the next crash for the economy? Who would thing something as small as water could affect such a glorious city in it's wake? Is this only a glimmer of hard times to come? Or are we looking only at a small peice of the puzzle of the Shingdu corporation's plans for total domination of San Portello and possibly... The World!

65.9 Santa Neyorka's Hotel & Casino now stages the main battlefront for Neyorka, we expect some sort of franchise war between this institution and Shingdu for the right to build in this vast anchourage of real estate.

 

Santa Neyorka is now in a depression, no thanks to Shingdu's failure as a maintenance contractor - however the lower citizens live, and it will not be long before they will be able to get up and stand accounted for in society once again.  This city - this once great city destroyed by a hurricane, a fire and now a drought, is threatened now by the next economic crash.  Shingdu will possibly be the only corporation wealthy enough to support all of San Portello when something of that magnitude happens...

65.10 The city also faces the next problem of the test - a rightful transportation thoroughfare.  The city is becoming conjested... heavily.  As par usual Shingdu offers to construct a tollway, but naturally, city fathers are not listening.

 

Well, the city can be left alone now - we know it has been a while since Neyorka has been told to you about it's status, but quite emotionally distraught is Fernandes - that city is blossoming into a new age people! We can't miss it, and We're hoping to give you coverage soon...

It's good that you've changed your mind...

It's incredible what hard times Neyorka has to go through... but I liked it.

You've shown us some nice parts. I like the market and the green strip along the highway. My favorite picture is 65.10. It's brilliant. I like action in pictures... brings it to live (And I love that Trixie billboard there...)

Well, I got something other than photoshop, Canvas 8, it has some pretty cool tools except for the fact as soon as I place text on the pictures the sizes suddenly go from 800x600 to at least 2335x1755 or something daft like that! But it's the only tool I have for editing pictures, and this update is more of a show of me messing around with the program, any feedback would be widly appreciated...

Update 66 - Fernandes, boom or bust?

 

You are watching SNN news, and our top story today is San Fernandes and the Stock Market crash that hit the whole state.  Our real question here is has Fernandes been severly affected at all or was it just too prepared? Let's find out...

Under new management, many firms occupying Fernandes' shoreline rather than crash with the rest of the State's economy, have done very well in providing for themselves.  Many of these firms include lawyers, Aid Unions and Construction Companies.  One construction company in particular, Shingard Builders Inc, is on the forefront of San Fernandes' poverty problem...

Shingard builders Inc. are a rightful construction group working hard to fullfill the needs of a major city like San Fernandes, and, as the Stock Market uplifted itself today, Shingard has already claimed it's 51st plot of land for building upon since the recent crash...

Shingard however, admits that it's only working for a higher office of state, but still, their quick and fast-paced work schedueles make this company the best in it's class.  But on honest grounds, this can lead to serious problems; the construction company itself built harder when needed, and now, as the needs for housing is being occupied, soon abandonment will occur or another, more serious problem will present itself...

Take this for example, when the stock market crashed a newer and more effective corporation showed itself to world, and is building housing just as fast as Shingard.  As both companies work for power, one will eventually overpower the other and a serious market crisis will happen, leaving both companies in the red - just like what happened to the construction site in Santa Neyorka just hours ago...

Then, San Fernandes hit it's very serious problem... Healthcare.  With the whole of San Portello falling into a decreasing shortfall, there isn't enough expansion to fund a better healthcare system.  As a result, denser neighborhoods are feeling the harsh cruelty of longer waiting lists and hours on end in hospital waiting for a small operation.  The opinions of the Health Worker's union was clear...

As the problem of poor healthcare presents itself, the new disease of all neighborhood agendas is now 'Desity Fury.' This major problem comes in the form of the Shingdu vs Shingard war for construction, with their tenders wanting more & more buildings with excessive capacities, the only thing the construction companies can do is build big or at least out-stage the limit in these parts of town, causing catastrophic consequences on the eye-catching view of San Fernandes and the traffic system, or at least, overpower the 'little people.'

Ironically, as we spoke to David we could see an new skyscraper being opened, showing us just how real Density Fury is becoming.  We have to admit the building itself was beautiful, but not constructed by Fernandes' own Shingard... Rather, it was by Shingdu...

As David concluded his interview, we realised both companies were just the same... As Shingdu built the skyscraper, Shingard build at least a hundred new row homes eqivilant to the number of people living in that particular building.  Obviously the rowhomes were closer to what city fathers had in mind, although the law of asthetics has been bent or at least broken.  We saw in this neighborhood such rowhomes...

But on the same side of town in basically the same neighborhood we saw Shingdu's lust for power in the form of this waste-to-energy plant, and, it's workers 1x$ Wealth people.  Taking advantage of the situation and such people, Shingdu built this vast neighborhood of low-wealth housing, knowing that such people couldn't avoid such a taxing trip due to commute times in and out of the city...

66.10 - In peak times traffic is a complete nightmare, but when we interviewed a local church-goer they said Traffic out of rush hour is bareable. We took a look out the door a noticed many heavy vehicles travelling down the local avenue, knowing all-too well that in a couple of hours those same type of trucks will be stuck in a jam for at least 30 mins...

66.11 As the war between Shingdu and Shingard goes on, the government rufeses to give out any action plans or polotical statements on how to deal with the situation.  We beleive David more than anything when he says the government is trying to cut down on traffic than seeing the real issues here facing the city.

 

When people wake up in the morning it's hard not to see that cluster of commercial towers or skyscrapers, heck, in Georgetown that's an everyday thing.  Soon, and sooner than an average citizen might think, Fernandes will be just the same.

Update 67 - And now for a quicky from San Fernandes!

 

1,235,992... What does this number mean to you? Nothing? Well, to us it means the population of San Fernandes!!! WOOHOOO! lol.

 

Looking at our reigon cencous diagrams & maps, we calculated the population of the city to the exact number, but unfortunatly we couldn't do it to the second, as the population is slowly rising as we speak!

 

Unfortunatly, we have little to offer you in this update except data, charts and one or two pictures of the growing city.  All we can say is the city is bravely recovering after the stock market crash. (We said that in Update 66? Hmm...)

 

Update 67.1 - One strange thing about the city is how crazy the people will be when it comes to commuting... See this fella walk from across town to the local train station... crazy pedestrian

Update 67.2 - In the answer to the healthcare scare, the city has began development of Uber-Hospitals, these arn't actually medical institutions, but more like institutions used by and therfore approved by the medical ossiciation.  Go San Fernandes' first sports centre!

San Portello Reigonal Board & Revision Commission PLC

 

Date Established: 12/06/245

Acting Body: San Portello State Governer's Office

Head: Mr P.S Ferdinand

Acting Law: Working Statistics & Licencing Act 235 (Revised 245)

 

It is stated in the above act, that the San Portello Reigonal Board & Revision Commission shall hencewith undertake and anaylse statistics gathered by themselves or city-wide agencies.  They shall:

 

1. Gather information of each city's: water; power; mayor rating; government approval; population; air pollution; traffic; residents/jobs; budget. A city is identified in Section A (Regulation 7) of this act.
2. Produce the information above in legitimate format
3. Publish the information every financial quater or important event in history.  An important event is identifed in Section B (Regulation 1) of this act.
4. Take appropriate action should the city's standards are below standards, see Section B (Regulation 3) of this act.

Upon doing these duties, the government body controlling such part of a state will take appropriate action to fight wrongful statistics/inedequate results.

 

It is our first financial quater, and it is time to analyse the results...

Update 67.6 - The above budget status is from San Fernandes' primary district - Bobinator Financial.  After analysing the statistics show above, the board (Stated above), began processing this information:

 

• The city's tax rate is adequatly charged.
• The transportation department is making a profit, therefore adding to the city's coffers.
• With the free profit, the city has invested in: Healthcare, Education, Utilities, City Ordinaces and Beautification.  We disregard the efforts being made to stabalise the uses of these departments, as we will discuss them later.

Overall, the budget is healthy, but more spending is required to increase mayoral approval...

Update 67.7 - The Average citizen's income.

 

Green - The Modernisation & Transportation Act 103 (Revised 240)

Red - The official stock Market crash, resulting in the revision of the Modernisation & Transportation Act 103.

 

The Modernisation & Transportation Act revelled the city to expand rapidly, and during the 'good years,' the city's profits exploded, before slowing down the acceleration to a more slower rate.  Until, when the Stock Market crashed due to the Water failure, the average income hit rock-bottom, well above when the city's income stopped expanding so rapidly.

 

This has shown us that such a disastor of the Stock Market crash affected many of the city's citizens, and therefore, serious action must be taken to prevent such an incident from occuring again.  It is expected that in another 50 years the city will be at peak level again, but the stock market must not crash before that time, or at least, all services to the city must be stable.

Update 67.8 - The city's job & population... Summarised...

As you can see both lawful incidents did not take affect a short time after they took place.

 

We can tell from the graph that the worst sufferer from the crash was the CO $$$ population, hitting a powerful low that it hasn't been in since it began expanding.  However, in light of the crash, the population soared to a higher level than before, and is slowly climbing.  This shows that the major corporations had a very hard time fighting, but beat back the problem...

 

The High Wealth Residential populace gained greatly from the crash, showing that they bought more stock or real estate whislt other smaller corporations began to fail.

 

Other wealths and jobs were fairly stable.

Update 67.9 - This is perhaps the perfect example of how a stock-market crash effects us all.

 

As you can see, the modernisation bid slowly worked on bringing about an end to car usage, until a short of period of time the car usage level did not expand or lower.

 

Note how stable the pedestrian rate is compared to the passenger train usage - people still want to walk, but had enough of the services...

 

The crash brought the 'big boom.' The City Ordiance supporting the mass transit system could no longer fight the expansion, after some services were delayed due to loss of funds, and eventually people got fed up of using the system.  A small dip in the information shows this time, and it will be flunctuating from here on until the stock market finally stablisises.

 

We were looking for similarities in the graph, and we found that pedestrians are best suited with car usage...

 

What can we say from all this? San Fernandes (Summarised) is expanding, but if the government wants to stay on target, they have to do more than improve the health & education system...

Amazing updates nealos (sorry for not posting earlier).

I like the expansion plans, very well done (and the graphics don't look too bad, although one can see that they were strongly minimized. I like the highlight boxes.). And great story: A good reason for reforms...

I also like your use of the game stats. But the region view in your last update is simply spectacular. The terraforming looks amazing so far and the three main cities are very well placed.

I'm looking forward to another update.
