A few scenes from the early days in my Daffy Duckland region (North West tile):

The rural-urban fringe:

Power generation units with supplementary wind turbines:

The crossroads in the town centre, with the main residential area, industrial park, and a bunch of trees surrounded by palm trees:

A slightly more affluent area situated by the water's edge. At least for the mayor's sake, here's hoping this was captured at high tide:

The Heartland City College & Agricultural Technical Institute, and their educational fields, right on the southern edge of town. They're growing corn/maize, barley, hops, rye, grapes, apples, and peaches. (Or maybe they just teach beer, wine, cider, and spirit making? ;-D) A bit of lettuce and a few cows, too! Grab a donut from Randy's Donuts before heading to class... it's hard to miss with the giant donut on top of their building. And if you want to attend while living in a neighboring city, you can take the subway/El Rail there... it's extended into Heartland now and has a stop right out front.

To the right are the grounds for the Agave Azul Tequila company... offices, warehouses, harvest bins, oven, and distillery. And, of course, some agave growing in the fields. (There's even some grapes growing... they're experimenting with flavored tequilas... or are they experimenting with agave & grape wine?)5a947f385c7f3_Screenshot2018-02-2616_41_08.thumb.png.c4fe56a6f3c449ae7ffd078f87eedec3.png

It's been a while since I last saw so much vanilla! After reading your background info in the linked thread, I kinda understand you, though...

Really my whole philosophy with this region is to get back into the game again. Up until now it's been years since I properly spent any length of time city-building, so I'm really just trying to find my feet. As I go along I've been making mental notes, thinking of areas where I could use certain mods or additional items. With the temptation to go binge downloading through over 20k files, that's really what I'm being very careful to avoid this time around. Starting out with just a few minor modifications and a terrain and water mod, I'm enjoying the small details and re-familiarising with the gameplay. I've even noticed a few details and animations I can't recall seeing before.

From my early years of playing SC4 I played without even knowing about ST or the world of custom content. So at least at this moment in time, I suppose this lowers my expectations of needing a Plugins folder into the gigabyte range. Also to appreciate each item knowing I've chosen them with specific needs in mind.

Very relatable, especially the "years since I properly spent any length of time city-building" part!

I actually have terrain & flora as well as NAM + cosmetic mods pretty much sorted out currently. My approach is to go slowly from there. I'd like to start with small rural communities (Chi/NY style), so fields, low-rise offices and family homes will come first. No need to d/l and mod zillions of skyscrapers for the time being!

The question is whether I will get started at all, but after rescuing data from my dying old external HD (including some losses, albeit no catastrophic ones), things look better than before.

Sounds like a strategy I should follow too...

From my early years of playing SC4 I played without even knowing about ST or the world of custom content. So at least at this moment in time, I suppose this lowers my expectations of needing a Plugins folder into the gigabyte range. Also to appreciate each item knowing I've chosen them with specific needs in mind.

This is the right strategy, without question.  I learned this game myself without ever knowing about Simtropolis or SC4D or many of the other custom content sites but when I discovered them, I binged...hard.  I just took a quick glance and as of this writing my plugins folder is 5.49GB with 19,603 files in 352 folders.  This is obviously excessive and I would hazard a guess that I probably don't use 50% (maybe more) of it.  I learned how to play on Windows and did most of my binging on Windows as well.  Then I switched over to Apple computers (for reasons unrelated to SimCity).  Well in the Mac version you have a limit on how many files you can have in your plugins folder.  In an effort to get as many plugins as I could, I stopped organizing them.  I had 7 or 8 master folders and crammed thousands of files in them.  I'm now back on Windows (still using my MacBook computer though) and have since been reorganizing things into folders and getting mods and what not straightened out again.  It is a MASSIVE undertaking.  Like I said I'm now back up to 352 folders, however my unorganized "Original File Structure" folder still has nearly 12,000 files in it, just waiting for a new home.

Long story short, I did exactly the opposite of what you're doing and I am paying for it...HARD

Anyone wanna move into this neighborhood?

Sure. I like that angled house with the swimming pool mostly hidden from the neighbors. Are Hazmat Suits included in the purchase price?
