Was he saying anything like that ?

blahdy: I am right to guess that you work with 3ds Max ?

I love that sunset lighting you have put on some of last pictures. Love it.

Yeah it could.

Make a spotlight and turn on the 'overshoot' option.  Makes for some very interesting lighting.

Purdy as always, blahdy.

    vester_dk: it's gmax unfortunately 4.gif  i don't feel like buying 3ds max yet...

Okay, the on-ramp is now substantially completed.  Only major task remaining now is just night lighting.

Unrendered gmax shots with spectacular views are now available at the following URL:

These are absolutely amazing... I havn't been around ST for a few months and I have missed the development of this project. It is absolutely amazing! It is truly Trixie worthy. Too bad so much of the detail is lost while rendering for ingame. You are a true genious, blahdy.

Night lights are done, the model is completed and can be passed off to modding anytime now.

I like this project, but i do not use it, because I like to make big metro networks in my cities. I'am now builiding a city with a lot of tunnels under ground and built my city on it.

Thanks everyone for your comments, heh 2.gif

Alfred.Jones: yup; the modelling techniques used to build these ramps have been near-perfected since the introduction of curved ramps.  So these ramps can be modelled a lot faster, better and more accurate than ever before 2.gif

pilotdaryl: not night lights, it's gmax lights.  You need Direct3D 9 and a decent video card to see volumetric lighting.

And my favorite picture... I use the Atlantic Ave. I-93 NB on-ramp a lot of time in Boston to get out of the city, and this picture looks just like the real-world one from street view:

I really like the new progress map, and I'm stunned by just how much more you plan on doing. Great work on the ramps, too! I don't think I've ever seen quite this much attention to detail!

    woodb3kmaster:  Thanks! 4.gif

simzebu:  That's a good question.  There are so far 5-6 models passed off to modding, and I believe 1 or 2 has been mostly done in modding by Swamper77.  It takes a long time to work on each model because of the complex LOD required, so patience is key.  It probably takes avg. of about 2-3 weeks of work time just to LOD and mod+path each model give or take I think.

Oh. I was just saying that they look insanely lifelike. I actually wonder if the artist conception drawings at the beginning of the Big Dig were as good as that. Probably not.

    But thanks for the answer!

I've been wondering, what's the plan for the awkward partial tiles cut off by the curved ramps? I'd expect since the models overhang we would be able to plop on these squares, although it may look awkward (read: LOD issues) if anything with any height were to be placed there.
