Nice work!  This really helps clarify some methods for encouraging transit use.

My god, this is amazing! Thank you so much for this in-depth transportation tutorial. This is now my Sim City 4 bible.

I have one question though, how would you go about placing schools and hospitals and such? They won't fit in the little spaces between the residential and won't cover the whole area if I place them on the outskirts of the residential.

i know it is a long time ago since you posted these tutorials but is it possible that you make the tutorials for the el train and especially monorail, like you planned to do 4.gif. Anyway these where very helpfull and explained the basics very well.

Cheers

Although this is a very interesting tutorial, I must say that after trying it myself, attempting to recreate this as much as possible, the exact opposite results occured.

One - they stubbornly continued to use their cars as much as possible anyway

Two - they refused to even acknowledge the existance of the industrial area. When I put in commercial close by, they worked there instead. When I got rid of it and used *only* industrial, they got "no job" zots. The only way to get them to work was to replace the industrial entirely with commercial instead.

Three - the *only* time they started using busses more than cars was when I enacted the "mass transit only" radical ordinance

I have no idea why I got these results instead, but to each their own, I guess. SC4 is a finicky servant indeed

grizly, make sure you installed NAM properly. there are a bunch of mod files you need to strip from it or else they will conflict. they modify commute time, speed, road capacity, etc.

One of the questions I asked myself is: do on- and offramps slow down the travling time of the highway. You said it doesn't. That makes me happy. But another: do crossroads slow down traveling time or do the lower the capacity? Is it wise tom ake a minimum of crossroads, or doesn't it matter?

Another thing I read about is that in the original SC4 commuters always took the shortest route, not the quickest. Is this still the case in SC4RH with NAM?

Your tutorial is very instructive. Thanks a lot.

Is there some sort of mod being used here? Because I don't see any bus stops but they are mentioned in the beggining...

Very Good Tutorial there, Greyveil! Congratulations! I have yet to test this method, but I'm sure it will work wonderfully in my new cities. It would be very useful to complete it with the elevated rail and the monorail. And I have a question. Does it help to have two adjacent rail tracks in congested lines? I've never tested it, and I don't know if it really reduce the congestion or it only has an eye candy effect

those are custom bus stops that can be found on the STEX. if you do a search for road top bus stops you should get a lot of hits.

GriZly: just because your traffic volume is high, does not mean you have bad traffic...check your congestion

I found this out by myself a month or two ago, since then my largest city record has gone from 40k population to my current behemoth of 600k. I use bus stops at every intersection, next to every transit stop etc. I think the key to getting a large, working city without spending to much (heck, I'm cashing in twice what I spend on MT on fares), is to use busses and later subway and maybe monorail or el rail. Of course, I still have traffic problems but that's only in my CBD, and my overused subway 2.gif. Great guide!
