My favorite CBD so far. this is Kolnen. It is a city out of the Berlin map that came with the game.  A city of roughly 100k in a region of over 6 million. The best part was that the overwhleming majority of the buildings grew.

Considering the lack of custom buildings and landmarks(as in, I only have 3 so far), this is a great city. It is by far my favorite in its region and it goes by the name of South Shore.

City Stats:

Region Plot Size: Medium

Population: 231,000

Commerce: 117,901

Industry: 14,596

Mayor Rating: 10(perfect)

Funds: $538,000(at time of posting)

I am definitely out of my league in this thread though. Some of the cities in here remind me of my old cities in SC3000(which were much easier to over-develop, in my opinion)

Here's the downtown of my new region. So far the population is low and so there isn't too much high density development.... not yet anyway.

I like that, Giligone!  I bet the view from that tower is amazing!  19.gif

Well, here are some views around my smallish CBD.  I posted this in the first "Downtown" thread, but since then the area has seen a bit of growth, and so I thought I ought to post some views from around the place.  The only plopped building in these pictures (other than the obvious SkyTower and rewards and such) is the Newsfeed Tower.  All the rest just kinda popped up on their own accord...(and I apologize in advanced for the poor quality...it's bad, I know...)

First one's the overall day shot (facing south):

Same shot at night (the SC3K Federal Building doesn't come with lights, but it still looks good!):

Columbus Tower (I think it is...):

The Auckland SkyTower against Shark Hotel and Clark Tower (facing west):

Sunrise on the primary intersection (facing north):

And just a random shot I took for a nice assortment of buildings and lights:

...So there you go...that's my downtown.  And all of these pictures leave me wishing I had Photoshop...15.gif

masochist:  Those are really good downtown views!  I wish it was possible for me to make mine like that (mine look so synthetic15.gif).  Image editing programs such as Photoshop may make the image look better, but there is only so much you can do with Photoshop to improve the looks of a city.  In the end, the city itself needs to have asthetic value first, and you succeed brilliantly with this.

Thanks for all of the inspiration here, I love skyscrapers and these are some of the biggest and well set up maps I have seen!

Now a dumb question:

Can anyone help with with a general rule of thumb for conditions that are important to have a R$$$/C$$$ skyscraper combination on 1 map?  I am asking because I have had no issues growing C$$$ skyscrapers on a single map with major residential maps bordering it, but when I try to combine C$$$ and R$$$ buildings, it causes problems (no job zots, high crime rate, etc..) which results in low education (or the low education due to the no job zots causes high crime rate, whatever; domino effect all around), so the whole system fails.

Any tips on what plays a major role in a R$$$/C$$$ combo map?  I am trying to keep all R$/C$ and R$$/C$$ and all industrial (tons of high tech) in bordering cities.  My demand  in the skycraper city is 4000-6000 for both C$$$ and R$$$ but I still have problems.

If I should move this, let me know and I will delete this post, I only asked in here because I see some people have the combo Skyscraper maps mastered.

Thanks!

hym: Wow...thank you! 4.gif That makes me feel like maybe I'm doing something right! ...Maybe...just maybe...17.gif!  I appreciate it very much!

rekrab: I've personally never had that problem (but that may have something to do with the fact that I just build whatever they want as I go along...).  I don't know if I can really help, but do you build both Res and Com at the exact same time?  If so, that may have something to do with it.  You probably have to build the residential first, before you can build the commercial, and even then it's a slow process, because if you flood the market with Res, then they'll complain about no jobs, and if you build too much Com, then they'll say to build more Res.  I've also noticed that  it's good to have them very close with at least an avenue or two connecting them, if not a freeway.  And of course, build your schools and police and parks and blah blah blah.  I don't know if I helped at all, and I'm sorry if I didn't.  But hey, maybe I did.  Maybe...just maybe...17.gif

And for the simple reason of staying on topic (just in case this isn't considered on topic otherwise), here's one more picture that I didn't include in my earlier post (facing south):
