The new 'Birthday' feature!

On the home forum page, there is a new feature that shows people's birthday which can be found on the extreme bottom of the page. 

I think it is an awesome idea! I'm so glad Dirk thought of that!

What are your thoughts about it?

I saw that he enabled that feature, which is included in most forum software.

Although those with fake birthdates will be wrongly congratulated...

it isn't anything special (alot of forums do this) but i still like it.

I think it would be cool if the site sent out automatic happy birthday pms too.

No it wouldn't. That would just be annoying. It's like the server wishing me a happy birthday. Since servers can't think, don't have emotions, etc., it's thus meaningless to me. Some things just shouldn't be computerized....

Ehh... getting a 'Happy Birthday' PM would get annoying because it isn't heart-felt such as one person giving to another person.

I like the idea of the happy birthday feature (although it can be used to determine your age). In the big scheme of things though, I think that it's a great idea (even if it isn't new).

It doesn't give out any personal info. The only way it would give out any info is if it should the date of birth, which I don't think it does. From what I can tell it's perfectly harmless.

If you really think it's too much personal infor for people to know your birthday, just leave the field in your profile blank.

The site will never say it's your birthday then, but that's what you want, right?

It's not that big of a deal if kids were smart enough to keep personal information to thereselves...Sure, this is just a small part...BUT...it also leads to other personal info...and every little bit is helpful to a child predator.

Overall having such information out in the open is a legitimate concern. For the sake of our rules we have to know, however, whether or not our members meet minimum age requirements. To the best of my knowledge though, that kind of data is NOT shared out in the public. But if it is, pls let staff, esp. Dirk, know ASAP. I don't know if there will be a mechanism to give the choice of whether or not we want our birthdays (sans the year) "observed".

Yes, the "Birthdate" field is an optional field in your profile... (how else would it know )

Hehe, there are a great many things of the Dirktatorship that we don't fully understand. 

For example:  How did the duck get it's mysterious powers?
