I kinda got bored with my current projects but still hankering to BAT. So I decided to creat a 6x6 Ploppable RS$$ Uber Mall with German/Japanese/HK Architecure styles in mind. I want lower parts to be very Japanese/HK Shop looking then as we move upwards its gets that slick clean German look. Here's what I got so far. Give your thoughts 3.gif

[edit] Forgot to mention that this is VERY URBAN! Very downtown type of stuff.

Great job, fantastic work on indoor detail, but some of the parts look too small in scale comparing to others! Whats up with that?

A lot of business like to have big shop windows, so some parts of the main building are 3 stories, but others are only 2. Later I will add advertisement textures to make it clear which parts are shops and which are offices. It will become more clear as I build on....

Verrry interesting! Are you going to add signage to it? It'd look cool as this neon oasis full of  brand-names, and/or just lined with neon strips lighting up the edges at night.

Umm, shouldn't it be CS$$, rather than R$$?

    Looking great, BTW!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

This is great looking. It will definitely find a home in my cities if you go the route of 'urban' CS$$. We really don't have a lot of that.

This looks fantastic! I'm definately bookmarking this thread so I can check it often.

I like how the exterior of the building is quite varied, it creates a realistic look rather than the same-old clean look. 4.gif

    Bixel,

I love that. And you've even got the the meters on the side with the power cables running to them! Would that be called "side junk"?

That's one advantage to modeling non-skyscrapers. Lovingly-created details don't get lost.

But, usually downtown malls are pretty upscale, so wouldn't it need to be CS$$$?

Oh, suggestion: add 2-3 large department stores, like Dillard's or Macy's.

You could also make it like RIvercenter in San Antonio and have a large hotel tower on one side

The downtown malls here are hardly ever prefab... Like Rivercenter. (It's one of the terminuses of the Riverwalk, and it runs right into the mall. Very cool mall in my oppinion) City Center in COlumbus, OH is kinds like that, but It's becoming more lower scale as the shops move out. So, it just depends on which mall you're talking about. I personally love malls and wish there were more on the STEX. I'm tired of having the Deconstructivist mall in all my Downtowns!

Dont worry guys, still working on it, next update will be pretty cool I think. Anyhoo CS$$$ doesn't seem too bad either, I suppose we could have 2 versions. I also want to see if I can make it busmall/subway compatable, well see.

It'd be nice to see something slightly bigger also, something like 6(width) by 9 (depth) with a transit-enabled one-way road going through. Malls generally require council approval to be constructed (sometimes even state government here, go bureaucracy (!) ), so plop's the way to go.

Or you can ignore what I just said. It's looking great, regardless.

I should get another daytripper and go around Sydney taking shots of our urban malls (of which we have a LOT - in fact, the podium of Sydney Tower's actually a mall!)

Here are the arial views of the malls I'm talking about:

    rivercenter4hy.jpg

This is the Rivercenter Mall in downtown San Antonio, TX. there are two hotels in it (technically ne, but the Menger kinda dies a W2W with it and has entrances on two of the mall's pedestrian walk-ups) the tower is the one with a mall entrance, the Rivercenter Mariott. The funny thing is that there was already a Mariott across the street...

    citycenter7vk.jpg

City Center Mall in COlumbus, OH. It has the street go through the connection it has with the enourmous and now vacant downtown Lazarus. It also has a rather large parking garage connected by a skywalk.

    canalplace1ag.jpg

Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. It is an office tower that has a 3 floor mall in it's base. Most of the New Orleans skyscrapers are like that. Place St. Charles has a two floor mall in the base, as do a few others in the CBD.

I think it would be cool if you put a hotel tower on one of them, many downtown malls include hotels.

Cool pics, especially the New Orleans one, mine will resemble that one the closest, Mall type shops with 1 or two tall buildings sprouting out of it. Can't show any pics yet I need to complete some of the middle parts 1st, but mine will feature a pretty cool layered park/patio area that is raised 3 floors from the ground, kinda will remind you of something out of Akira during the protest/riot scene (any of you anime geeks might remeber that part). Yes I definetly want it TE'd at least into the Parking Garage, dunno about a whole street running through it yet though, mine is kinda small about a 6x6. But I do want some sort of bus/subway connection...I think its possible.
