This electric diesel locomotive was developed to replace the aging DD51 and to speed up freight trains, marking the first new model since the DF50, 29 years ago. Of course, the inside is fully up-to-date. Its nickname is 'RED BEAR.' It's currently running between Sapporo (T) and Goryokaku, Obihiro, and Kita-Asahikawa.

老朽化したDD51の置換・貨物列車の高速化を目的に開発された、DF50以来実に29年ぶりとなる電気式ディーゼル機関車。しかし、もちろん中身は最新鋭である。
愛称は「RED BEAR」。現在札幌（タ）～五稜郭・帯広・北旭川間で運転されている。
