Guaíra is a municipality in the state of Paraná in Brazil. It is located on the southeastern shore of Paraná river, some hundred miles up from Itaipu Dam. The population in 2004 was 36,426.
The city was famous for its falls, the Sete Quedas (Seven Falls), which were submerged when the Itaipu lake was created. In the other side of the river is the city of Mundo Novo, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and some miles left of the map, is the border between Brazil and Paraguay, where is located the city of Salto del Guayra. A 2.5-mile long bridge connects the two sides of the river,.
It’s a typical small countryside city. The economy is mainly based on cereal production.
