About This File

Welcome to the David Traps, a coastal region in the extremely far future. The region is eroded, on the coastline of the Russian continent at it's location 1 billion years from now, in a colossal supercontinent. The region is elevated, higher than usual, a sign that the entire continent is about to be hit by the biggest volcanic eruption in 1.2 billion years, a large igneous province with a colossal volume of 14 million cubic kilometers. The insulating supercontinent is holding in massive amounts of heat in the hemisphere covered by the supercontinent. This trapped, concentrated heat melts mantle rock in the lower mantle, triggering the formation of a 'mantle plume' where the superheated, now liquid, rock rises in a, well, plume. It billows up and hits the crust, uplifting the land, and we have this. The plume is about to burst through, and it will erupt molten lava for eons, ten thousand human lifetimes.

The seas will rise as the carbon dioxide gas heats the planet, and the world will cool dramatically as sulphuric acid takes over and triggers a colossal ice age. The David Traps is what will be left, named after my father as a birthday present. This map is an insignificant fraction of the true scale of the David Traps. The map covers 2500 square kilometers, where the large igneous province will create a step[trap- trapp, Swedish for stair, common landscape feature in large igneous provinces]-covered almost flat deposit of basalt taking up over 10 million square kilometers.

The David Traps L.I.P hasn't erupted yet, but it is imminent.

This is a 50 kilometer by 50 kilometer, greyscale, in-game-rendered map. Again, SC4Terraformer hasn't been able to function yet. I'm sorry it could not be the way most maps are.

Enjoy! I fell in love with this map even before the render, and I dearly hope you love it like I do!

And one more thing; if you didn't figure it out, this is the first map a three-part series of maps.

Expect the post-eruption version soon!
