About This File

NHP Western Tatra By nichter85

The Western Tatra is part of the Tatra Range, the highest mountain range of the Carpathians, located in Slovakia and Poland. It consists of limestone, as well as crystalline rocks. This is why you find varied landscapes, like rocky ridges, deep caves, waterfalls and biological diversity. The highest peak is Bystrá at 2,248 meters in Slovakia. Other notable mountains include Jakubiná (2,194 m) Baranec (2,184 m) and Baníkov (2,178 m). The main ridge is about 30 km long and runs from west to east. The central part - Rohá?e - is mostly rocky and has alpine character. The treeline is at about 1500 m, above there are crooked pines, meadows and rock formations.
