Map This! - Cartography Services presents -- KOYAMA ISLAND
Concept Map and Storyline by kingofblades
Map created and rendered by Vandy

History (Abridged Version – More complete history being researched and developed) 18th Century
In the Early 18th century, small trading posts and resorts were founded along the Crystal River as well as two private schools were established.

The first school was founded circa 1730 by Edward Peterson and was for boys ages 6 to 14. Most Parents that enrolled their children at Peterson Academy did so because graduates had good chances to gain higher ranks within the SimNations Naval forces.

The second school was the Miss Huffington’s School for Young Ladies and provided education to girls from age 12 to 20. Not only were fine arts taught at Miss Huffington’s but also politics and the means to influence politicians which, of course, was not made public until the late 20th century. Many founding members of the Tri-Var Sorority came from this school.

By 1750 a Buddhist monastery opened near the Central Peak and Lake Mayor.

19th Century
Due to the strategic position of the Island in regard to trade routes, the SimNations Senate passed the Moonchild Shipping and Trading Act in 1812. Construction of a naval base began on the western shores of the main Island and was finished in 1825. Sections of the base were open to private shipping companies for means of refitting and supply which furthered commercial relations as planed. Around the base a settlement was built called Port West.

Under the Koyama Island Cotton Act of 1850 some farming communities were allowed to provide farming products for the City of Port West including cotton and vegetables.

In 1890, the population had grown to the point that the Senate of SimNation created a metro area named Bayside which was made up of five surrounding villages. The Governor and the Supreme Court House were relocated from Port West to Bayside.

20th Century

On the January 1, 1930, Governor Richman proposed the Self Governing Act which was approved by the SimNations Senate two months later. Koyama Island now had a Legislature of its own to pass bills. Both the Senate and the House of Representative were elected in June, 1930.

By 1972, the Influence of Koyama Island surpassed all neighboring States combined in the region. Its key position as a leader continues to this day.

Geography
The State consists of two Islands – the namesake Koyama Island and Isle Minor – as well as parts of the neighboring mainland. The mainland is a part of a National Forest preserve only disturbed by the interstate freeway and rail line.

Two major rivers flow on Koyama Island.Crystal River flows from the Big Peak into the Bay as well as into the Lake Mayor. Pine River flows from Little Peak to Port West.

Law and Government
The state of Koyama Island is a Federal Member State of SimNation and has separation of powers. The Capital City is Bayside.

The executive branch is led by a Governor that is appointed by the President of SimNation (from a list of candidates the Senate of SimNation suggests). The Governor of Koyama Island currently is General Koyama. Before his position as Governor, he worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs of SimNation.

The legislation is bicameral with a House of Representatives having 61 seats and the Senate having 29 seats. The Senate is elected every five years as is the House of Representatives.

The Supreme Court Building is located in the city of Bayside.

Map This! - Cartography Services is proud to release its newest fantasy map, Koyama Island.

The original drawing and concept for this map was created by Simtropolis Member kingofblades. He is also the creator of the config.bmp file and the author of the storyline, above. Using the SC4Terraformer application, Vandy created the actual map based on the specifications given to him by kingofblades. Koyama Island will be the map used in a new City Journal being produced by kingofblades. The City Journal will bear the name of the map, Koyama Island, and can be viewed by clicking on the named link.

This region is 1537 x 1409 pixels in size with a 24 x 22 pixel city configuration made up of a variety of small, medium and large city tiles.

The map consists of a large central island, a smaller island and a small part of a mainland. There is a very large extinct volcano in the north central section of the main island. There are two rivers south of the volcano – one emptying out on the western side of the island and one flowing into a large lake and branching to flow into a bay. A number of other lakes dot the two islands and mainland. Some small “finger” mountains rise up in the southeastern part of the main island.A large cliff complex dominates the southern coast of both the main and small islands. There is a large reef complex between the large and small islands and a man-made “helper island” which will be used to bridge the two islands via a roadway.

There is ample opportunity to develop a wide mix of rural, small villages and towns and large cities within its landscape as well as ample opportunity for industrial, commercial and recreational development.

Dependencies: SC4Terraformer or SC4Mapper application by woanagaine.  Registration is required to access the SC4Devotion LEX.

Download and save the zip archive to a temporary sub-folder. Extract the files from the archive using the "Use folder names" option in order to properly reconstruct the file structure.

Please read the Read_Me file for installation instructions for this map.

Please visit the Map This - Cartography Services thread for a graphical tour around Koyama Island.

Koyama Island basked peacefully in the sun waiting on some intrepid developer to take advantage of all of its beautiful resources. Will that intrepid developer be you? _____________________________________
