RoadSide Parking  3

About This File

This is a FUNCTIONAL parkinglot, which lets sims park their cars on the road. Small plopp cost & no maintence fee.

Idea came from Tri, so give the man a hand!

This lot is complete and will not feature an update. Has its own description and all! Also tested it all day for various situations - bugs unlikely. :)

The Capacity of this lot is slightly less than a road (depending on whether or not your using a mod), Its 1500 (or 3000 when quering it, which combines morning commute & evening commute). Notice that through traffic DOES add to the capacity of the lot. Thats why it has such a high capacity, for just a 'few' parking spaces along the road.

A few rules to follow when placing it:

- since this lot is 4 spaces wide, IT WILL cut off road access to buildings. So when you place this lot, make sure that you place it either next to BIG buildings that have a second road access, or place it near buildings, like in my example, where the lots FACE THE OTHER road.

- Generally speaking, if you have a Grid traffic system for your map or just the downtown, you shouldn't have a problem finding a suitable spot.

Question: Why is it so big?

Answer: Because the capacity of the parking lot has to be similar to the capacity of 'a' road. ANd i figured it be more 'realistic' when there would be more parking space visible. Besides, it looks real good on the screenshot, no? :)

Question: Where can i use this?

Answer: Well, it has the same usefulness as any other parking lot. But given that it is a downtown type of parking lot, i'll admit it has not much use, since you are supposed to provide parking near MT, which then eventually takes you to work. I actually designed it to go with a future radical mod, that requires you to provide parking spaces at work, which will be released 'soon' :). BUt since it has no maintence fee, you can use it to improve the look of your downtown, and wouldn't you agree this lot looks nice at night? (especially zoomed out)

Enjoy!

UPDATE! Version 2

Tri just had to find a bug :)

I just noticed that i used a overlay texture which was not on everyones machine. I fixed it real quick. Sorry, it happens.

UPDATE Version 3

Sorry it took so long, but i'm sick. :(

Anyway, added:

- 1x1 Roadside parking lot for Roads

Looks similar to 4x1 lot, except its cut off

- 1x1 Roadside parking lot for Streets/residential areas

On this lot, the cars actually touch the street, appearin got block traffic. Unfortunatly, from certain angles it looks like cars are driving partly through them, But from other angles, it looks good ;) oh well

- Changed capacity of lots to affect gameplay.

4x1 has capacity of a Standard road, has no negative effect

Both 1x1 lots cut the capacity of the road in half. SO if the streets get busy, better upgrade to the 4x1!

Sorry, no new screenshots :P

I have a question: do the sims visually walk through the cars parked in the sidewalk? If they do, is there a way to fix this? Anyway, great idea...

good point - yes they do, and nope, no way to fix :( However, the cars are timed to disappear (beyond my control) whenever rushhour starts. So you either have cars there, or you have pedestrians, soldomly both & the random ppl walking around are not too many

nice, but can you make a 2x1 or 1x1 too with lower capacity? I just don't wanna cut off too many buildings... if there was a 1x1 lot I could alternate with normal road so no buildings lose road access

ah, you guys suck... :p oki i will add them. But i can't lower the capacity of the road, or else you'll have major traffic jams. Don't forget, 'thru' (through) traffic ALSO adds to the capacity of the road!

About time. This was something I really wanted since Simcity 4 released, and before Rush Hour. I thought Maxis would mke this in Rush Hour, but this is still an excellent concept. Good Job!!!!!!!

This is OK, but in real life roadside parking comes out into the street, making it thinner. There is only room for 1 car lane in the middle. Its like passing points on the narrow roads they have in remote areas, except its cars making it narrow.

chunkymon, your talking about residential roadside parking. In europe, where road side parking is common on busy streets, they got extra spaces carved out on the road. Sorry for the wait, but i got the flu and i ain't in the mood to stay infront of the computer to test something. patience please.

the 1x1 didn't replace the 5x1, it just added. And yes, the 1x1 would still block adjacent squares (sims can't go from network tile to network tile). However, if the building is at least 2 spaces wide, you could still place it, but leave the other part open.

this is really nice, it reminds me of where I live, everyone parks along the street, and makes it tougher to drive. But still an excellent idea and excellent work

Nice. you should up date with diagonal parking, also i would like to see a double wide street w/ two rows of diagonal parking in the center.
