About This File
DESCRIPTION
The Sainte Marie-des-Bois friary probably never existed in the real world. However, the location provided one of many infamous backdrops in De Sade's anti-moralist tale, "The Misfortunes of Virtue." In my readings of De Sade it occured to me that the man was widely misunderstood and I wanted to speak out against his reputation as a mindless lecher. At that time I was also interested in learning how to use the BAT tool. Thus, this project was born, and it has blossomed into a wonderful plopable park lot. Since I could find no picture or illustration of the Marie-des-Bois Friary, the model was constructed after my reading notes of the descriptions De Sade gave in his work. As I am interested in ruins and archaeology, the final model was meant to represent a partially reconstructed friary and church. Besides my notes I used several pictures of other reconstructed friaries and churches around Europe to help capture the appropriate scale and style.
