About This File

A bungalow complex for hobby gardeners with Eastern Germany looks.

The idea of pre-fab bungalows is derived from the pre-fab concrete slab buildings, in order to create residential estates for weekends and holidays with modest effort. This also explains the similar look of the various cabins. Nevertheless, these buildings gained popularity very fast and were called "dachas" by their owners, after the country houses in Russia. Finally, these dachas can be built in SimMayors' cities, too - all it takes is a few mouse clicks. Just use the [Ctrl] key to zone coherent light residential areas of 4x5, 5x4 or 5x5 squares. Provided that the growth conditions are appropriate, you will quickly have a small refuge the like of which you can find in almost every city in East Germany.

These lots are part 1 of the second set of large lots in the contemporary European style. The set consists of 50's suburban residential estates for medium density, Plattenbauten (i.e. pre-fabricated tenement buildings made of concrete slabs) for high density, and these dachas for low density. The basic idea was to offer a possibility to create urban districts with an individual character using lots of the same size that can overgrow each other as the city develops, but keep the character of the district. For example, if you overzone one of these lots with higher density, you will sooner or later see how the area gets upgraded to a bigger lot from this set - unless you have any other Euro-style lots of this size installed in your plugins folder.

These garden lots grow as R-§ and are intended as complement for my allotments. They have been implemented as low density zones to represent the character of real-life dachas, where the building density is obviously very low. Besides, this allows a clear distinction between these low-density lots and the multi-storey buildings for medium-density lots.
