This is a scale accurate map of Lyon, France's second city. It features accurately, the rivers Soane and Rhone. Anyone familiar with the city will know that the vast majority of the city represented in this map is relatively flat land. The only noticable rise in elevation is on the west bank of the Saone. It has been impossible to accurately represent the intricate cliffs and rocky outcrops overlooking the Soane river. There are two maps of Lyon already on the STEX that have totally inaccurate topography, both in the elevations of the land, and the dimensions and true paths of the rivers. This is my attempt to achieve at the very least, a scale accurate map of a most beautiful area. I have not included any land elevations as it is IMPOSSIBLE to accurately represent them on an SC4 map.
Lyon is the birth place of Auguste Bartholdi, the french sculptor who designed the STATUE OF LIBERTY which stands as a monument to Liberty and Freedom at the gateway to New York USA. Many examples of Bartholdi's work can be found in Lyon.
Lyon also has some the finest cathedrals in Europe, the Basillica Notre Dame de Fouvierre sits majestically on a hilltop overlooking the River Soane. The Cathedral St Jean in the centre of the city has a world famous astrological clock, and is built on what was originally a medieval abbey. The whole city is steeped in history, right back to the roman empire, and there are many beautiful buildings, monuments, and sculptures in Lyon - but not ONE of them can be found on the STEX :-(
