15 Year Update - Arson City
drocca posted a City Journal entry in What Happens when you Withdraw All Government Services?
15 years without government, and the biggest news of the last five years are two fires on May 1, Year 50 and Sept. 2, Year 52 that each burned several buildings and were started by an arsonist. There's been continued population drop, education and health drops, and garbage accumulation. In short, further deterioration. Crime has dropped, but that's because there's fewer people around to commit crimes. On a person to person basis, the city has gotten no safer. By now, the wealthier residents, businesses, and industries have nearly all left. Since the government shutdown, education has dropped a full 102 EQ points and life expectancy 27 years. The water pumps were replaced, and some damage to the water lines from the fires were fixed (remember, they DO get power and water). Total Population: 24,443 Residential Breakdown: R$ approx. 18,200 / R$$ approx. 5,700 / R$$$ approx. 500 Commercial Population: 12,065 Commercial Breakdown: CS$ approx. 3,700 / CS$$ approx. 3,300 / CS$$$ approx. 740 / CO$$ approx. 3,900 / CO$$$ approx. 580 Industrial Population: 2,641 Industrial Breakdown: I-D approx. 2,250 / I-HT approx. 390 Crime: 23 per month / no arrests Commute time: 93 minutes Power usage: 10,191 kWh Water usage: 68,748 cu m3 Air Pollution: 90 Garbage: approx. 93,000 tons (about 79,000+ tons in the streets) Education: 81 Life expectancy: 63 years Average income: Approx. $28,500 Budget: $12,336 income / $2,327 expenses Funds: $2,800,812 Mayor Rating: Approx. 30 (4 bars out of 12) -
The man responsible for setting fire to the air traffic control center outside of Chicago, causing the city's airports to shut down and disrupting flights across the U.S., was apparently upset over plans to have him transferred to Hawaii. Air traffic across the Midwest is still chaotic more than a day after the fire. http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/26/travel/chicago-ohare-midway-flights-stopped/index.html
