  1. I was wondering if someone could give a rundown on how one could go about modifying UDons a little bit further. The goal is to see if its possible to modify the ramps such that the traffic doesn't stop at the end of the ramp. Or at least the traffic is behaving as if there's a stop sign on the end of the ramps. I wanted to get it more free-flowing much as a regular freeway would. I just need to be pointed in the right direction is all if possible please. Was wondering if anyone could point the way, or if they knew of any documentation that I've not been able to find on my own that might indicate what some of the properties actually represent. Thanks in advance!
  2. Mod to reduce low wealth cars?

It can't need that much RAM. The app is a 32bit app so it cannot physically cope with more than 4GB and in my experience it uses alot less than that. Even on the CPU front, it's only using one core off the CPU. Only thing that might hold you back is maybe the GPU
  3. Project Orion - 3k Extended Boundary

Use the RIC plop to plop buildings inside the 3k border for now. We will look on to the zoning part.     I went and grabbed that mod and at least it gets me to dropping residential and stuff outside the "boundary".  Otherwise, Orion working as advertised for me.  Thanks to those who got this off the ground
  4. Project Orion - 3k Extended Boundary

So my question is a little bit strange here.  I'm playing in Starlight fields.  I can use the regional road to get outside the city boundaries.  So far so good.  I can plop stuff outside that boundary (in my case, I plopped a few parks).   So far so good.  I can't figure out the zoning part.  I get the shadow that indicates I *could* zone there, but can't get it to zone.   In the download instructions, the plop RCI was implied to be optional (the instructions merely say it works with).   The instructions also seem to imply you can draw zones normally provided you meet the road and the two sides condition.     Is there something else I'm missing please?

(which none of the vm software versions do). It'd make some of my older games like Wizards and Warriors playable
  6. Monte Cristo closing

Sucks to see any game company close shop. I have faith the developers have the talent to bounce back from this and press on. (well I take that back, I didn't shed too many tears when Mythican closed shop back in the 80s during the game crash).
  7. New interchange Design

I think they're working on that right now in the southern Salt Lake Metro area. It does look rather funky. One thing that struck me with the Salt Lake area is that they've gone crazy with the SPUI's interchanges with the surface streets.
  8. Ramps off of avenues?

I could've sworn I've might've seen this in a city journal somewhere, but is is possible to create a ramp of sorts off an avenue/expressway to another avenue/expressway without causing those crosswalk markers to show up? I've tried experimenting with overpasses and the like an couldn't get it to work. Any suggestions? Or is it not possible as of right now? TIA!
  9. Ramps off of avenues?

Livin in Sim: LOL.... yes yes I know :-) Back to the topic at hand, I was able to get the look right where it looks more like a ramp, but the downside was that traffic seemingly still stopped at the ramp. Ah well. Hopefully by content pack 3 they will get some more flexible ramp behavior in. Though I gotta say, I'm for the most part happy with the flexible you are given with the roads in general as you can do some pretty artistic things with it. Bridges that rise at a steep grade before meeting the top of a hill looks rather imposing from the side or below. Don't feel bad Xylox, I ran into the same issue with Safari the other day when I accidentally 12x posted the same message (Safari would sit there and look at me and I had no idea that it had actually posted) and got told "repent and sin no more". I'll go ahead and try to give your suggestions a go and see what happens. Thanks all for the pointers. Will let you know what happens. Thanks
  11. Ramps off of avenues?

The NAM only applies to Sim City 4 if I'm not mistaken and doesn't apply to Cities XL (unless something's changed). As to the bridge thing, I had tried that to no avail, so I'm wondering if there's a trick to using the bridge technique to make it work?
  12. You can build the industry in the opposite corner of the city and you'll be perfectly fine. IIRC, it's the power plants and waste/trash dumps that pollute map wide and will eventually cause problems in time, especially as you try to recruit Elites into the city. One recommendation you'll see is to import power and waste when possible. Another person had a rather brilliant idea (my apologies for forgetting your name) to save up a wad of cash, and carpet bomb the city with power plants until you unlock some office building that'll boost your power output. You deploy that unlocked building and then get rid of your power plants and suddenly wind turbines become a much more potent force. Hope that helps!
  13. Seriously....schooling...ive done everything

Just to close to loop on what the other 3 of posted, you can get by with Elementary schools only. If you stick with just the elementary schools, eventually you will knock down the problem. I suspect MC is more than painfully aware of this as well as other issues and we'll eventually see a patch that'll let the middle schools, etc have more of an effect.
  14. Another thing to try is to wait until the last possible second, or put another way, hold off on building any of the city services until your populace's satisfaction levels close on 50% or some threshold that makes you comfortable. Once you get underneath 50%, they'll start leaving, so keep and eye on that and just build the bare minimum
  15. Rationing Problem

It is true. I've found that I can get a city up to about 300k people and only have what amounts to maybe 3, possibly 4 square retail zones at the most (using the square zoning tool 4 times that is). But citizens consume the retail, and the retail consumes the food (I think). At least I don't know what other industry on the map consumes food industry resources.
  16. Very disappointed over the non-existent Halloween event

Actually I do buy it. I'm a software engineer and if you have finite resources and you have what appears to be a show stopper situation (in this case trade and performance issues that still appear to be ongoing), that you will defer a subsequent release (in this case, the live release event) even though you had it planned since January at the start of the year. That's just the reality of an online service. Payroll services will defer feature releases if they have some compliance fix they need to push out the door even though the features were planned for sometime. That's just the way software engineering is I'm afraid. Stinks yes, but I empathise with what the MC guys are dealing with right now.

No transit? And still no 3D walking and driving in my city anno 2009 (ok they didn't promise that) No subterrain managment like water sewer power internet or phonelines. No laws or regulations to administer the city. Only 2 tax sliders. very basic Online game is only irc chat with other people who are also horrofied by the arcade style enviroment. Online should have some trading but it didn't function properly when i played my 50€ 7day trail. 7 days online play only, after spending money for a full game. No patches and promised content before i am giving them a montly fee for completing the game that should have been completed in the first way. Some promised content are now buyable addons. Memory cloging Terraforming ? you can only flatten area's, not rising or lowering the ground. Online login annoying me with several popups that planet offer can give you the rest of the game(full version somewhere in the future no date mentioned) + irc chat and website seems to be the real content here. Online play is lagfest.(no i do not have a slow pc and yes i have a 100mbit line so don't come with that flaming). Lost 40million (all money) after i relogged. Middle mousebutton rotate is indeed a panic rotate option that spins out of control real easy i could make this list longer, but i think i made my point. conclution: the game has great potential but is in a beta phase, way to arcade and absolutly not finished. I bought the game, played the beta trail version (thats how i look at it), never gonna touch it again if they are not gonna implement the features they promissed for free instead of buyable content. me no idiot. And than the burning question: should you buy the game? well i can't speak for other people, if you like arcade and not all the speadsheet screens that usualy come along with sim games, than this is the game for you, but if you like to be able to have some influence on your city, than this is absolutly not a game for you. Personaly i wish i wouldn't have bought cities xl, but thats personal quote> About the "Walking the City" part, that is not entirely true. You can zoom all the way down to ground level and then use the movement keys to effective "walk/drive" in the city from the first person perspective. It's a little glitchy on some suspension bridges, but otherwise works. I like that you can get somewhat artistic with the city layouts, but unfortunately I found that I can't do double decker roads/viaducts like I was hoping to. Not terribly a big deal. For the most part the road tools are alot more flexible than Sim City, though Sim City carries the advantage on the use of ramps from the Freeways. In trying to do a self-sufficient city, I'm finding that the game does get fairly challenging as you start to approach 400,000 people. I'm still net positive on the income and through unlockable buildings I have a chance at boosting income further. The thing is the waste and electricity deficits are becoming more problematic as the game goes on. I suspect I can get to maybe 600k people max. Will still need to experiment. Overall, its an okay game, but I get the feeling without mods I wouldn't be able to pull off a good enough self sufficient city in the SP mode. I'd probably have to go MP in order to do either a righteous self-sufficient city or I'd probably have to do one of those specialized types that feeds everyone oil or something.
  18. The Gold Coast jorunal, enjoy!

Those are some really neat pictures. Thanks for the posts
  19. A little more forgiving

I know the intersection Kciredor speaks of. Part of the other issue with that junction is that on the northbound side, you got that sudden drop down to 45 mph that bottles up traffic in the northbound side. On the southbound side, you got that left side exit for route 4 and half the time the idiots in that laned moved over and chopped the nose off people in the #2 lane. And to make matters worse, you got that sharp turn into a left side merge with the route 4 traffic before you approach downtown Dayton. This link has an aerial of the junction. Cheers http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=11&Z=16&X=1852&Y=11015&W=2&qs=%7cDayton%7cOH%7c
  20. Better Game Saving?

In the absence of a new save mechanism, you could take the copy of your game save and back it up prior to playing the game next. That way, you can experiment to your heart's content and then revert to that back up when you want to put stuff down for real. Not the most elegant solution, but it would suit your needs. As to where to find it, well it ended up in the strangest of places on my Vista setup, where it ended up in my %User Folder%/Pictures/MonteCristo/.........
  21. Constructive Criticism And Ideas To Improve Cities XL

I would like to see the ability to have exit, entrance ramps to/from freeways from the overpass. An example would be if you had a viaduct freeway (like I-70 in Denver Colorado, Cap. City Freeway in Sacramento, 880 Freeway near the McArthur Maze in Oakland) that you can exit ramps or entry ramps from the viaduct portion of the freeway. Hope the examples given help to make the suggestion make more sense.
  22. The Future of GEMS

I like the idea of a Need for Speed style GEM, or a Burnout style GEM.

I'm sure MC realises this themselves; What is the point of paying for the game if even the most basic (and important) feature (trading) of Planet Mode fails?quote> Hey Gyzz, I think I read in another thread straight from MC itself that the trade functionality in PO is *the* top priority at the moment along with more meaningful updates than the hotfixes that have been showing up as of late. So I suppose the good news is that the devs are painfully aware of the issue and are working on it.
  24. Are you going to buy Cities XL?

I wound up buying the game myself because I like the idea that you can create some fairly exotic road/highway networks, and being the road geek and being able to zoom to the first person I'll be happy. But again that's just me speaking for myself.
  25. Is it possible?

rhenry. That gave me plenty food for thought. Thanks for sharing. That gives me something more to work with. :-)
