  1. A general rant

Skyfire2275, I have 384 MB of RAM. So what you're saying is that I should put 1536 MB in both boxes with the C: drive selected, as in the images I have in my previous post? Is that right? This is sort of confusing, and I don't want to ruin my computer. Krases, I've got a computer in mind that'll cost about $1,000, but I have to save up for that.
  2. A general rant

OK. I'm bumping this thread because now that I've moved into my new place and got Internet access, I'm ready to try this. Here are screenshots of changing the page file size. Please tell me if I did this right. Before: After:

Also, get rid of any background tasks that run while you play, such as MSN messenger, task scheduler (pause it atleast), etc... anything in running on your system that doesn't need to run. Also try defragging your hard drive.quote> OK. I went through those tabs and settings and saw what you are talking about. But I don't know computers, so I'm worried I'll screw everything up. Do I change the C: drive or the Page File? It says it's using 384 and the maximum can be 574. Should I just up it to the maximum? What exactly do I change? Do I change the initial size and the maximum size? I'm really leery when making changes to numbers in properties and stuff on my computer. I don't want to ruin anything.
  4. A general rant

I think I'd rather get a new computer. I'm looking at some with 1 gig RAM, twice the processor speed, larger hard drive, etc. In general, it'll just be a better purchase.
  5. A general rant

I can't upgrade my RAM anymore. It's already upgraded! Both sloths are full, so I can't get any more RAM without removing one. I doubt my computer could handle any more RAM. Amdinside, how in the world did your computer run SC4 with that? If it ran it that well, why isn't mine running it?
  6. A general rant

D'oh. I can't believe I didn't give any specs. Here they are: Amd Athlon 1.4 GHz processor 384 MB of RAM My graphics card is an AMD Radeon 9200 128 Megs I've got the settings pretty low. My computer just can't handle it.
  7. Unable to build my dream slum city!!!

This is the funniest rant I've seen! Try jacking up the wealthy taxes to maybe 16 percent. Give the low-wealth sims the lowest taxes. Maybe 3 percent. Medium-wealth sims should get in the middle. Their houses aren't big mansions like the rich folks have. If you build high-density, low-wealth housing, you'll get big slum projects like you see in New York or Chicago.
  8. fun screen shots

I'll come back with a screen shot shortly, but has anyone noticed that chimps in lab coats run around by the Disease Research Center? It's hilarious! I tried to get a screen, but they disappeared.
  9. Newsfeed Corp Tower

Great work. This building fits in perfectly in my city. The design and shape of the building is sleek and modern, and I love that. The night lighting is excellent. Thank you for making such an outstanding building.
  10. SHARK Hotel

This is a really great hotel. It fits in perfectly with a city I made. I love the design, the architecture is great, but the night lights really do it. Excellent work!
  11. Tucson Tower

I live in Tucson, and I can say this is a pretty good rendition of the tallest building in the city. It's actually called the UniSource Energy Tower, but that doesn't matter. You really got the look and feel of this building down, and I think "Tucson" when I see it pop up in my cities.
  12. Great City Name Ideas Advice

I've started naming cities after cool streets around town. Colfax, Campbell, Second, etc.
  13. I want to make an awesome airport, so I need to get a cool airport pack. Can someone direct me to the best airport pack in the STEX? Joerg's RH Airport Pack v1.3 looks really good. Someone in chat said I should also download Swamper77's Airport Support File. Can someone clairify this for me? Also, do these airports act as a real airport, or is it simply aesthetic? Thanks.
  14. Oh. Duh. Thanks. So can anyone just fill me in on this stuff? I don't quite understand what I should download. Should I get the SWAP, joerg's airport pack and then I'm set? I'm not really smart enough to know what all these fancy things do, so if someone could explain it in plain English and tell me what file(s) I need to get to make a cool airport, I'll leave you alone.
  15. What's the SWAP? Can you link me to that file? Should I use joerg's and SWAP?
  16. sunken highway ramps

You know, I had this same problem. I don't have the NAM, and the modds section is down. I guess we just have to wait!
  17. In Arizona it's Tucson vs. Phoenix. To Tucson, Phoenix is: -Too cosmopolitan. -Trying to be like Los Angeles. -Too big. -Too corporate. -Uncultured. -Dirty. -Too conservative. To Phoenix, Tucson is: -Small. -Rural. -Too liberal or hippie. -Dirty. -Hillbilly. -Too congested with traffic. Build a freeway, they say. Then there's the oldest football rivalry in the NCAA. It's not a big rivalry compared to Ohio State and Michigan or some other schools, but the people take it pretty seriously. The rivalries between cities make me laugh. Most are total generalizations brought by someone who's only driven through the city twice.
  18. That's sweet! I'll download joerg's pack now! Thanks. Edit: It says I need to install three things before I put the files in my plugins directory. One of the things I need to install is a mod, and the mods section is down now.
  19. What does that mean, Swamper77? Is that if I downloaded two airport packs from different people, they'd work together somehow? Do these airports act as a real airport, or is it just for looks?
  20. Airport crime rate

How weird. I put a large beach down, and there's always a helicopter flying above it. The country club has high crime? That's funny.
  21. Date: 2/8/2006 10:22:19 AM Author: winonanick i thought that is what the water treatment center is for...quote> Me too. Remember in SimCity 2000 and 3000 residents didn't like living near them because of the smell? That's where your waste water went. I assume it's the same in SC4, except people live near them now.
  22. Observation...

Is there a government building that requires funding nearby? If so, maybe you're not funding it enough. They might be protesting before your adviser gives you the notice. Or they're having fun.
  23. The great city flop

I'll have to go with the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. What a mistake. Awesome pictures and video, though.
  24. help with photoshop

Just downloaded Photoshop, huh? You do realize that that's illegal, right?
  25. Can you tell us... : Big or little ?...

If I had the skills to make a large city, I'd go with saying I take the metropolis approach. The entire region can be big, but smaller cities connecting to it are a good idea. It seems more realistic.
