Very impressives Screenies here folks. we certainly have some talented individuals here on the forums. Great topic too. very often people get hung up on the big picture but there is a lot detail out there which gets overlooked too. I just finished an update for CJ (link in sig) and have a few closeups to share: and here are a few close ups of some other areas of the CJ (from past updates): hope you like em. and if you want more close ups and lots more please visit my CJ and leave ample comments!

Just starting useing some new stuff from STEX...
soldyne posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hello everyone! In the last few weeks I have been getting more and more excited about restarting my CJ and have been dling a ton of stuff from the STEX to better enhance the journal. some of the things I have recently downloaded are: JeroniJ's concrete walls (all of them I think) JeroniJ's latest ploppable tree lots JeroniJs trail parks, diagonal fencing, Modular zoo and lots of other stuff from him (he is just a great BATer!) Ploppable water Goldivas tropical set and PEGs limestone rock mod. In the following Pics I have created a random wooded scene using jeronij's ploppable trees, pegs ploppable pines, goldivas rocks and reefs, and ploppable water and pegs rock mod. I need your opinions and suggestions on how to make the pics better or if they are good let me know so I can showcase them in my upcomming CJ update. Now here is something I was experimenting with. I had two lakes at different elevations and thought that it should be natural to have a waterfall between them. however, none of the ploppable waterfalls I had matched the color of the ploppable water so I had to experiment. this is the moutain before the falls: here is the mountain after the falls. I think it looks sort of like a waterfall/rapids kind of thing with all the goldiva rocks everywhere. however, I think (and so does my girlfriend) that it still looks too jagged. let me know what you all think: here is the top and bottom of the waterfall. I used goldivas reef rocks to help blend the transition of lake to falls: ok, be honest and please, if you dont like it give ample suggestions for improvement. this is my first time messing with these items so I am still a little inexperienced. thanks in advance and I'll see you all in Newtopia Valley! -

well, the rock mod concept is giving me some trouble. I have tried nearly all of pegs rock mods but this is the only one whose pattern is not so checkerboard like on large mountain surfaces. also, this pattern has a kind of stratification effect which is common in many cliffsides. If you have a specific suggestion for a rock mod then I will try it out, but Limestone is the best I have found so far. -

ok, experimentation finished. here are the results of using gizmo's water flora with my above lake pics: more feed back please! <edit> oops, sorry for the double post. I just realized that my screen shots contain almost nothing from the original game. I have cycle doggs terrain mod, pegs rock mod, peg pines, jeronij's seasonal trees, ploppable water, goldiva's rocks and gizmo's flora! to think how far the fans have come. these pics would not have been possible when the game was first released. kudos to everyone! You guys have practially created SC5 already! </edit> -

Thanks for the suggestions and the encouragement. I have the free flowing water mod actually and it is difficult to use. once the water starts to flow it can be tricky to get it to stop. I do have plans for it later in my CJ though, although not in the comming update. yes I was thinking more variation would be good. That is just something that I will have to practice I guess. anymore comments would be greatly apprecieated <edit> heh, i guess we were posting at the same time chocolatemax, anyway, good suggestions. I will search for the flora mod, it sounds like just the thing I am looking for. got a link for me by any chance just incase I can't find it? keep the comments comming </edit> <edit part duex> nm about the link, I found it. for those of your who are new though, there is an offsite place for other downloads and such at http://gizmo.lunarpages.com/ it has a more stuff for you cities. check it out. ok, experiementing now with the flora mod... </edit> -

SC4Terraformer, a tool for regional handterraforming
soldyne replied to wouanagaine's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
very impressive. I would like to see how these maps look when loaded into the actual game (how the city boundaries look and everything). but otherwise this is a spectacular project. this could revolutionize CJs ! -
arrrg! no fix, but it is a known issue... Perhaps I can still make use of them and just keep my screen shots away from the wonky floating shrubbery. thanks for the timely response.

Where do you download stuff to?
soldyne replied to Skyline19952006's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
again, Facelessman has a some good tips. I use the My Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins folder myself. One piece of advice that will save you a ton of time and anguish later on though is to use sub folders to organize your downloads. do not just throw your naked downloads into the plugins folder without doing some kind of organization ahead of time. It may not seem like you need to when you only have three or four things in there, but when you have 500 MB, 1 GB or more of downloads (like me...) you need some kind of organization. -
Using the mouse wheel speeds up menu scrolling
soldyne replied to Gnargenox's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
here, here! the mouse wheel is a life saver. I just finished downloading another 50 MB of stuff from the STEX (mostly JeroniJ's stuff for my CJ). I dont think I have any menu now that is not full of new stuff (more new stuff than original anyway). I love the new bats and mods but sometimes it takes just as long to find what I am looking for as it does to design the city layout in the first place. LOL! great stuff everyone, keep BATing! -
thats facinating cogeo. very inovative use of the parking garages. When you get around to updating the design let me know and I can help showcase them in my CJ for you.

I am using Weathered Granite right now, and on a small scale (short cliffs and small rocky outcropings) it looks ok, but on a large scale, like the side of a big mountain, it looks quite crappy. you can see a very definite pattern in the mod and it makes the mountain look worse than no mod at all. what do some of you mountaineers use?
-
well, actually I just tried all the rock mods (that were not fantasy) and they are all very pattern like on large mountains. I finally just took out the peg rock mods and viola, the rock mod that comes with cycle dogs terrain mod is perfect. not very patterny and still better than maxis. thanks for the input everyone. <edit> ok I went back and tried some more rock mods cause I was not convinced yet and I must have skipped limestone before, because wow, that is just what I am looking for. It still has a pattern but it is not as severe as the others. infact the patter actually gives the mountains a sort of stratified look. it looks very good on many zoom levels as well. ok so i guess now I am going with limestone. lets see how long this lasts. lol </edit>

Hey Jeronij! great work, I use your stuff all over the place in my cities. great seawalls btw. anyway, I am having some issues with your latest concrete walls. here is a picture of your walls on a good diagonal direction, notice how the bushes stay on the ground and the fencing is nice and proper: now here is the problem, if the diagonal is going in the other direction the fencing gets all mixed up and the bushes are floating in the air. this is not very good for a CJ. I have the jagged edges mod and cycle doggs terrain installed. what could cause this and is there a fix?

well I guess I will have to load up limestone, eroded sandstone and gray granite. perhaps it is just a matter of loading a mod and loading a city to see whats up. thanks for the responses. llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll (strange name) I will look for that "knowledge tank" and see what comes up.

well, well, well. this is quite a fine piece of work you have here. I am awed by your region shots. I liked your idea of making a 6x6 plopable seasonal lot to speed things up. I spend so much time just covering a small map, a large map would take forever. I really like the small town feel too. great terraforming btw.

Show us your Universities, Colleges and Campuses
soldyne replied to DuskTrooper's topic in SC4 Showcase
hey, simNewbie83, your university is better than mine! Mine is so small it fits in a single screen shot! lol. I guess my university is more of a technical college. great design!- 194 Replies

Excellent Idea N_O_Body, I had not thought to do that. I am always looking for ways to make mass transit more efficient and eye pleasing. Thanks tchaos713, Posiedens Reef started as an experiment and became quite a unique fixture in my CJ. I look forward to any comments you may have.

interesting experiment. I would like to point out that it is not possible to zone for R$$$ or any other wealth type. What you are refering to is density, High, Medium and Low density. Wealth type has nothing to do with density. R$ can live in Skyscrappers just as easliy as a R$$$ can live in a small house (er, mansion). lots of people make that mistake though so its cool.
