That's good to hear but when I said in my own BAT thread that I'd be putting updates here I only meant for the Detroit Free Press Building.

I loved star wars a whole bunch between the time of the special editions of the movies and episode one. By episode two my enthousiasim wasn't as great, but I still like star wars alot. The super star wars series for the snes was really good, and shadows of the empire for the n64 was good. Some of the spaceship games were ok too. I read the shadows of the empire book and it was good imo. I also read alot of the young jedi knights series and a few other random star wars books too. I think that all together star wars could have been alot better. Even the older ones.

I just wanted to tell everyone about my custom member label, which is for the Barry Sanders Project (Detroit Re-creation). I'm very happy . I'm not going to post any more updates on the Detroit Free Press Building in this thread anymore, except a screenshot of the finished building when it get's rendered. It's almost done anyways, but more updates will be in the Barry Sanders Project thread, becuase I always feel silly posting the same thing in two threads where most of the people who comment visit both threads anyways .

I just noticed my new BSP custom label: Keeping the Drive Alive . It's especially nice becuase I just got back for thanksgiving break from Grand Rapids, so it's almost like a coming home welcome or something I did a little more work on the Detroit Free Press Building, but not a whole lot. I'll be using my familys computer untill I get back to school to my own, so no BAT for a little while . I'll tweak it according to the suggestions once I have access to the BAT again.

Next year the staff should look into an automatic voting system or something. It must be a pain to get all those counted!

lol Almost all of the pictures I post of my BATs are actually low quality preview renders that have been photoshoped into a screenshot of one of my cities. I do this so that I can compare the building to the ingame buildings, and so that I can see changes almost instantly. It also makes it easier to see the changes I make. I can use one texture, make a preview, and then I can switch textures, make another preview, and then put them right ontop of eachother in photoshop and I can compare the changes really well. I reccomend that everyone does this, it really makes the process more efficient and with better results. As far as I know this is not a very common thing to do, but it's really great. You should try it out too and see if it's helpful. I've only been asked once or twice, but I think alot of people wonder but don't ask.

Thanks I didn't specificly put the lighter squares on the roof at those locations, I just made them in photoshop and that's where they ended up. I made the texture myself, so I can change anything about it. Should they be moved? Made more subtle? Thank you for your help, this is the kind of feedback that BATers need . I understand what you mean about the contrast, but I'm not sure how to make it better . Hopefully the roof junk will make this a little bit better.

Some texture fixes on the Detroit Free Press building. I made everything brighter, and added some weathering on the stone texture. I also added in new windows (only 1/4 window textures were being used before, and I added in the rest to mix it up). Does this look more like the origonal? Also, I wanted to have the roof deck becuase there used to be one on the building, but I'm not sure if I should keep it on there. Does it stick out too much? Does it look funny on it? I've looked at it so much it's hard to tell How are everyone elses projects going?

To get rid of the status bar, go to 'view' and uncheck 'statusbar'quote> I looked everywhere else under view, but somehow I didn't see that. Unfortunatly I had to put back and foward and the addres bar back into a second toolbar (having back in the middle of the top of the page was akward) but there is still alot more screen than IE. my FF is practicaly fullscreen.

I just saw that screenshot of FF, and I saw that some icons where on the top toolbar! I didn't know you could put them there! So I just moved everything onto that bar! Sooooo much space! Now I'm going to try and get rid of that bar at the bottom where it says done or whatever is going on. It would be nice if I could get that at the top bar too.

The Free Press building is the same as it was last time I posted. Should the Free Press Building be brighter? Should it be like Mace Co.? or a mix between the two? What brightness did you expect to see when I said that I'd be making this building? What do you think it should be regardless of how I textured it? Changing the texture is a snap, so I'd like for it to be right on. Any other suggestions for anything else about the model would be good too. Please be critical

hello I'm going to post some pictures buildings that were in my old thread that some people may not have seen. These are also buildings that will be released (some with Simmars) eventually. (the windows show up poorly in zoom 4, so I need to fix them, re-render, and then there needs to be new lots) (for simmars) (the black BATed asphault will be removed) (old screenshot, the one on the right is the current facade)

one thing you can do to test dependancies without those programs is you can move everything out of your plugins folder except what you are testing. And when you're building the lot, you can take everything that you don't want to include as a dependancy out before you start placing props.

Is it worth upgrading from the original SC4?
Jasoncw replied to llamadog7's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Your next post should be: I just got Rush Hour, and it's great! Then I sold everything else I owned and robbed a bank so that I could quit my job and play Sim City NON-STOP! -

lol, rich text in FF! That must be an upcoming feature, and I'm not sure how they didn't include it in the first place. for me: 1. Mods category on the STEX 2. Some kind of groups feature on the STEX. If the upload belongs to a certain group (BCS, NDEX, etc.) a little symbol could show up and information about that group would be available as if it were a member, like download count, a list of uploads, maybe an average # of downloads and the uploads average rating. That way one username doesn't have to upload everything for a team, and there doesn't have to be little tags infront of the titles for the group to show up in a search. This also includes some kind of a co-credit system for when uploads have more than one person working on them, yet it isn't a group. You can call this STEX groups feature or something for the sake of the list 3. For the STEX search to also search the description, not just the title.

My First BAT and Lot - DD Underground Mulitplex
Jasoncw replied to Lord_Bertrum's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
For this process you have one scene in gmax. File>Import the trailers (including their LODs) into the scene right click>unhide all will unhide them. What you rename your LODs to doesn't matter. I'm going to say trailer, but the same idea works for other props too. Select everything that is the trailer including the LODs, and group them together so that it's easy to select and move them. Clone the groups and place them where you want them, you can use the wireframe view to see where you are putting them, although it seems like the trucks LOD is pretty tight anyways. Once all of your props are placed, select all of the props, and un group everything. Select the origonal LOD and attach it to all of the other LODs of the same zoom, and do this for all of the LODs. If there isn't any space inbetween certain clusters of props, then you can make a new LOD that is more efficient. That way, everything is the same model, yet the LODs still allow for other prop placement. -
The buildings are actually big compared to in real life, but compared to everything else in the game they are tiny. Some truly high density buildings would be useful in the game, but they would grow like crazy if there was a high I high tech demand. I never have a high tech demand though, and I never even have a big district for it.

My First BAT and Lot - DD Underground Mulitplex
Jasoncw replied to Lord_Bertrum's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I'm always a bit of a tightwad when it comes to using props and dependencies. You know, I think props are great if they add something substantial, which changes the look of the entire lot fundamentally. But does it really make such a difference whether you use the Maxis default white trailer, or if you have one with a label on it that will barely be readable even in the closest zoom level? I dunno; sometimes I think that it's easy to get carried away, so that people end up making things that aren't really necessary... well, as I said, I'm a bit strict in that respect, so don't pay too much attention te me. quote> I agree but depending on the nature of the lot (and it looks like it would work for yours), you can render the props with the BAT itself, and you can still crop the LODs so that you can place other props around them. The result is the same thing as you would normally get, except there would only be one model file involved, and no dependancies. I can give some help or clarification if you'd like any. -
Good for Boston, but from my understanding it was a massive waste of tax dollars for the sake of aesthetics.

I was going to post the Fisher building. The building was built with the goal of being the most beautiful building on earth, and I think it's pretty up there on the list, even without my hometown bias. and I'm surprised about the comment saying that these old buildings have ugly insides. One of the defining characteristics of early 1900's architecture are rediculously elaborate lobbys. The lobby of the Fisher building is amazing, and so is the theater inside. Unfortunatly the office room I was in wasn't too great, but I think it's mostly because of renovations in the 70's or 80's. And I've already made a post almost exactly like this in another thread but the Fisher building is worth it.
