Well, Westeropolis has reached 312,000 with about 75% of the tile filled in and it's started to become stuttery and glitchy at this point. I think I've seen what my computer can handle. As fun as it was making a city this big, I've realized that I much prefer medium tiles and will probably continue to deal mainly in them from here on out. Oh well, at least it allowed me to use the International Airport, which I had heretofore never used in a city of mine

For those of you who do create big tile cities, what's the largest population you've had on one before the game really started to slow down? I just started zoning the 8th Ward of Westeropolis, reached 200,000, and it's still working fine but I'm worried much more and it's gonna really lag.

Haha oh man, I do know what "verpa" and "mentula" mean, along with "landica"! Never heard of "pippina" or "edepol", but I'm guessing the latter has something to do with Pollux. And "caca" and "cacat", well, if I'm wrong about what that means, I'll be surprised Reminds me of when we were researching Catullus in Latin class and I told my group to look up Catullus 23

Reading some of the new books that I got for Christmas: The Blackwell History of the Latin Language - it's a little more technical than I wanted, but pretty interesting read for someone who loves Latin as much as I do. The Double by José Saramago

I'm skeptic of anyone who claims to know what "the real problem" is behind mass shootings. The fact is it's most likely a combination of many factors: easy access to guns, poor mental health treatment, and maybe just a general societal malaise that seems to encourage young white men with problems to solve them by shooting a bunch of people (should also note that many mass shooters desire to achieve posthumous fame and the media attention shooters receive doesn't help).

No, it's because that would mean it's a very early copy for Islam. I know when Islam originated--I'm 'learnèd' for a 15-year-old. But yeah, monotheism does seem to have a way of growing and sticking around; perhaps the Egyptian religion would have been one of the Top 3 in the world if they had been able to solidify more of a "cult" around one deity.

I watched the video and it's just appalling. At least this guy is actually being charged with murder. I'm sick of all these "no indictment" results. Now we just have to hope that he'll actually be found guilty.

The fact that Trump has donated to both parties makes me like him more, in the sense that he's obviously not a hardcore party-liner. But I think we knew that when he threatened to run independent at the first debate.

It's crazy to think that some people think the Big Tiles aren't big enough and yet Sim City 2013 thought it would be a good idea to make the maximum size even smaller than the medium tile. LOGIC I still seem to prefer my good-old medium tiles (especially if several of them joined together form one big "metropolis") but I'm getting more into big tiles now and my next region will probably have more of them (there are only 2 in my current region and only one of them is anywhere near developed).

^Oh yeah, I like that. Very cool to see all the green space. I've kinda been filling in every space in my big-tile city, so I could definitely stand to leave some space empty.

^Very nice. See that's what I think is probably a more ideal big tile. A big percentage of it is water, and then you have smaller clusters of civilization, rather than trying to completely fill up a mostly-land tile. I don't use RHW either, so that's nice to see

Yeah maybe I took the wrong approach with my big-tile city. I feel like only 1/4 of the tile is occupied right now and the population is already 180,000 (it's also almost all in the center of the tile). Maybe I'll just make the surrounding area more low density. This is not a completely flat tile, but it's almost all land, and while some of it is hilly, you could easily build almost anywhere on it. Here's the traffic map of my city (I created some freeways ahead of time): The city's doing well so far...no abandonment, high mayor rating...but I can't even imagine filling in the rest of the tile at this point.

I usually hop from city to city too--it's just that this one was a blank tile that I always planned on turning into a city but never did anything about until recently. So I played it kinda non-stop for a while. And it grew rapidly, but had frequent problems with abandoned due to commute time. But definitely the connections are a problem (since there aren't many) and the towns around are all small farming towns. Anyway, thanks for the tips

That sounds pretty useful. I'd be interested in that -_- For the most part, I don't have much of a problem (and I do have NAM). I rarely get abandoned due to commute time overall. But in some cities, it seems to be more of an issue. In one city, for example, the city is at the edge of the region and only has two connections. It kept getting abandoned due to commute time and I wonder if its position in the region affected that.

If you use the cheat to plant the God Mode trees, you can use that to make I-HTs unabandon, as well as other mid or high wealth places. I've had that experience at least. But honestly, my residential areas get abandoned mostly because of commute time. Which is REALLY frustrating, since it seems to affect different cities more than others.

Yes, I'd be interested to see those numbers as well (I'm not saying I don't believe you, I'm just curious). I'd also be interested to see whether or not it's been affected by the legalization of same-sex marriage as well as the growing normalization of homosexuality in Western society. In times past, homosexuality was always something kept to the underground--where the drugs and the promiscuity abounds. Makes me wonder if there's less of that now.
