  1. A PC for Cities Skylines

Processor is too slow, Video is too low, MB is a little old, but adequate. HDD is slow, but adequate, Maybe if you list your budget, then we can piece together something you need. Can you build it yourself? Or should we shop for an OEM system (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.)
  2. Fixing "Choppy" graphics

My comment is this is only a temporary workaround. In short order your city will start growing and soon will become very laggy rather quickly and you'll be back in the same boat. Except you won't be able to lower your settings anymore. You may just have to stick with smaller cities for a while until you can save enough for an upgrade. I wish you good luck. -=Mark=-
  3. No trash service?

Your problem is you have incinerators and dumps. They will conflict with each other. So as soon as you get incinerators, start emptying your dumps and bulldoze them when empty. The problem is your dumps get full and stop sending out trucks to pick up trash. The incinerators assume your dumps are picking up trash, so trash doesn't get all picked up. Try turning off the dumps and increase your garbage budget to about 130% and wait for all trash to get picked up. Once trash is caught up, then turn back on the dumps and start emptying them. All of the garbage trucks will focus on emptying the dump and not pick up garbage again. About the time the dumps are all empty your trash will have started to pile back up again, but you'll be able to bulldoze the dumps so the incinerators can pick up all of the trash now.
  4. The best advice I can give is education! Start building schools ASAP. It should be one of your first buildings you plop. Education will pay for itself and maybe even make you money in the long run. Education will prevent crime, reduce fires, reduce spreading of germs, provide solar panels to reduce power consumption, etc. I can build almost a 500k RCI city with full 5 hat education level and have only one 1 small police station, one small medical building and one small fire station that will manage your city without issues. 2nd would be happiness. The game mainly focuses on the happiness of low-wealth sims. Don't upgrade to medium or high wealth until you get the hang of the game. 3rd, is traffic. Watch your roads carefully. especially around rush hour (7am and 7pm). See where they are clogging up and see what you can do to alleviate it early before it turns into a 24/7 traffic jam. one thing to do is get sims to walk everywhere possible. If you mix commerce and residential at a 3R:1C ratio, then you can keep up with demand and all sims will walk to work and shop at commerce. only industry worker will drive. Here's a good pattern. CRRRCRRRC RCRRRCRRR RRCRRRCRR RRRCRRRCR CRRRCRRRC as you can see, every residential is touching a commerce and will walk to work/shop. Be careful with mass transit. They can be buggy and make things worse. I use none at all, except for some specialized cities. But an RCI only city needs none at all. 4th zoning. Make sure which way a building is pointing when you zone it. Do not zone on your main avenues near entrances/exits of your city. You don't want traffic stopping to turn into a store or home causing traffic to backup. Remember, a single high-density, low-wealth residential has 700 sims coming out or going in at rush hour (400 workers/200 shoppers/100 students). Imagine 5 of these high-density buildings in a row. That's 3,500 sims hitting the road on a relatively short road. If it is on your main entrance, it will block the freeway entrance/exit for a while. That's it for now -=Mark=-
  5. I wouldn't expect Simcity 4 to make huge sales on steam. Steam was released after SC4. I think SC4: Rush Hour came out around the same time, but not sure if Steam had a deal with EA yet. Even if Steam had been able to sell SC4 on release day. It would have been hard to break 1 million. City builders are just too slow for the casual gamer. So they aren't going to be a big seller. I know I've owned every SimCity game. They were always too slow for me, but they were enjoyable enough that I always came back and played somewhat often. Not enough action, but fun to play occasionally. Although, Simcity 2013 was more game oriented. It has a lot of negative effect for playing badly. I easily have played SC2013 more than all other simcities combined. I think I have around 10,000 hours in now. lol. Too bad they abandoned it instead of fixing it. It had such huge potential. I just hope CS can fill the void after some expansions and or more mods.
  6. First thing, if you like SC2013 more than CSL, that's good for you. To each their own as we often say. Well, first thing, please don't put words in my mouth. I never made such a statement. iviaarten asked my my opinion on sc2013's agent system and did so. as I already stated, I just feel SC2013 is more game like, and CS more map maker like. They are two completely different game at this point in time. My point doesn't need correcting. It was a choice that was made by CO. They could have made 24 day/light cycles if they chose with zero harm. It would have taken extra resources/time to make work and rebalancing, but nothing too great. Time is irrelevant. Maxis chose a 24 hour day to represent a whole month. There is no reason to not slow the game down to give extra time to traverse the whole map. which is 10km at most in CS. It is just a minor balancing issue to make it work. Given more time, they could easily make it work out with ease. I assume they'll do it one day. I thought the 24 hour day was awesome in sc2013. It really made the game feel more realistic. I've never had time in sc2013 to sit idle for long. But it is nice knowing you had a good warning system you could see while playing and then you could monitor traffic and have an easier time correcting it. In CS traffic just disappears and you have no clues that anything is wrong as traffic just keeps flowing along smoothly. But in reality people are not making their destinations and have negative effects on your city in general. I think the hard mode mod is suppose to fix that. I haven't tried it yet as I'm still on my first game. I'm afraid I don't follow you. Not sure what you mean by continuous time? I don't understand how cims having a designated house and a designated job to more convincing traffic flows. In real life it makes more sense to live very close to your job, which sc2013 always does on a daily basis, where CS may have a cim travel the whole map causing severe traffic issues. It can be fixed by adding cims being able to move if they can't make it to work, but they don't and just go abandoned. The stupid sims of sc2013 may be unrealistic, but for CS cims having fixed homes/jobs is pointless as no one keeps any kind of real tracking on them anyways. You get the same end result either way, but stupid sims would be easier on the system. You also have less convincing traffic without the 24 hour cycle. Instead we end up with cims working 24/7 non stop. I think the 24 hour day cycle is a much more realistic and noticeable feature compared to stupid sims without fixed homes. I agree. I like all of the city builders. I think this game has huge potential and it will probably turn more into sc2013 as time passes. It has a lot of great features that I'm sure will work well with this game. I'm still waiting for tourism to kick in for this game. They seem to have the linux/apple community going pretty good so they can focus on the core mechanics of the game. Can't wait for tunnels! Don't forget to clear up my misunderstandings. I think it is good to throw ideas around to get the best game ;possible. I may talk more about 2013 than most, but a lot of people just dismissed the game because it was online, small maps, buggy, etc. Once you spend the time mastering 2013 you can realize the potential. Too bad EA focused on shutting the game down instead of fixing the glassbox engine. They probably could have fixed the whole game by now if they had tried to fix it. Well, I gotta go now. I hurt my back earlier and took some pain killers and I'm starting to get a little dizzy, if you know what I mean. lol -=Mark=-
  7. cars go too fast

Assuming you're in speed x1 mode already, that is the new normal slow speed of cars. They have been sped up in a patch to help traffic flow better. especially on higher x3 game speeds.
  8. Lenovo makes a nice system. They bought IBM's home division. They have the Y40-80 for $650 with an R9 m275 video 14". and the Y50 for $950 with 860m video 15.6" http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/ Newegg a refurbished Y50-70 that looks the same as the Y50 specs for $850. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834318610&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Gaming+Laptops-_-N82E16834318610&gclid=CLOV5tbKiMUCFUOVfgodVHEA2w&gclsrc=aw.ds The Y40-80 is the best deal, but has slightly weaker graphics and a smaller 14" screen. but if you play on a monitor (TV) then it may not matter.
  9. I had the big lizard pop with a random event while I was AFK. When I came back he was pointing in the wrong direction and trying to dig down in the earth. He only traveled half of a block as only a couple of buildings were destroyed. I tried exit the game and quickly reboot my mach. but he was still stuck, but no longer trying to dig. I then waited half an hour and tried again with him still stuck. I even tried to respawn him manually with the disaster menu and I got an error message that an event was already in progress. I had this happen before, but it was with the Orion mod when the Big Lizard got outside the border it got stuck in mid air. I just figured it was a mod issue, but this time I have just vanilla simcity deluxe edition. (heroes and villains. Any else have this issue and found a cure? Here's a video of it
  10. Game Won't Load

Try updating your graphics driver from nvidia.com or dell.com. Your GT-310 is below minimum, but should start the game on lowest settings and lowest screen resolution and be playable for a little while.
  11. No one moving in?

I've had this issue before a couple of times. It turned out my road connections didn't properly align and the roads didn't connect to each other. they were two dead ends. Also, wrong way, one-way roads were the most common issue. Do you have any mods installed? these could cause issues as well. especially any road mod tools. Just disable all mods and see if they start moving in.
  12. Not Enough Freight Shipments

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm having difficulties with Cities: Skylines because I'm trying to play it too much like SC2013. Just the way it goes I guess. Remember, pollution has a negative factor in this game. Make sure you zone it at the edge of the map and downwind so the air pollution blows off the map. The is also ground pollution that will creep in all directions and start polluting your city. Make sure you have a dsmall buffer between your factories and the rest of your city. It just takes a skinny row. Also, trees die off in this game so you need to replant often. Also, there are trees for roads. They help with pollution too and need replanting as well. Hopefully you have all of your other games still saved. You should be able to work around the bugs in most cases. Low-skilled people? Can you post the actual wording. I think it might say unskilled workers. But that means educated workers. not wealth levels. You just need more schools. Education is extremely important in this game and gives a boost in almost all aspects of the game. If your depot is actually getting full of the specific bin called freight. Then you should plop another, "Freight" bin. If the bin is a freight type like coal, oil, raw ore, etc. you need to export it. or build a factory that will use it. I have noticed that when a bin gets full it seems to bug out the depots occasionally, so try to keep them from getting full. When some bins get full, they turn themselves off, and then they don't reactivate sometimes.
  13. Not enough goods to sell

It is likely your only issue is traffic. Bring up your traffic overlay and look for all of the red roads (intersections. This game has a bogus traffic management of despawning vehicles giving you a false sense that traffic is fine as it is still flowing. You may need more freeway entrances/exits or run a freeway through the middle of your city. This has always fixed my issues of my city going abandoned, especially industry/commerce. Remember, specialized industry (ore, oil, forestry, and agriculture) send their products to generic industry to make goods. Specialized industry doesn't go to commerce. If you are exporting goods, then you have excess goods and traffic is your issue. If you are importing goods, and not exporting goods at all, then you have too much specialized industry and too little generic industry. There is a 99.9% chance is it always traffic.
  14. Not Enough Freight Shipments

Not sure exactly what issue you have with freight, but I have zero issues. The game is designed to stay imbalanced so you don't end up with one type of city. One thing to remember is that the game only cares about low-wealth. You only need to make them happy. I just ignore the middle and high wealth demands as they don't matter to the game and won't penalize you for it. also, taxes play a role is freight demand. If you lower your commerce taxes it will ignore freight demand, or lessen it's demand. There are a lot of quirks and bugs in the game and there is a workaround for most everything. It's just a learning curve to figure them out. It took me a good 4 months at release time to figure them mostly on my own. You can watch youtube videos on all the bugs and workarounds. I suggest watching skyestorme's videos. He's covered everything by now. But if you can go into much more detail of your freight issues, I may be able to offer some advice.
  15. Population limit?

I've found when RCI comes to a halt, it's usually always traffic. Mass-transit can help. But you may need more access to the freeway. This game gives you a sense there are no traffic issue as traffic despawns when it starts to get a little backed up. Watch your traffic map, it is very important the later in game you are. I find the Hadron Collider is fine. It just educates all of your cims so you can remove all of your other education buildings. I do find they will take the highest educated job they can find which means offices first and industrial last. This can cause freight issues when you first place the Hadron Collider. I only place offices if I have unemployment issues and freight issues as Offices are suppose to be industry with no freight. so they count as industry.
  16. I tried to come here and chrome reports this site is unsafe.
  17. What Are Your System Specs?

Actually specs aren't boring at all and could help assure you have exactly what you need. With that said, your GTX 760 Ti should be a perfect fit for a 1080p monitor and this game.
  18. Umm....what?

Looks like your video card is overheating from stress, old drivers, or overclocking. Since you have lag, you may be underpowered. Can you post your system specs? Try lowering all of your graphics settings to low or off. Then try lowering your screen resolution as low as it will go and maybe it will become playable once more.
  19. Need some help here Please

When someone says that the mods don't work, they don't work. How hard is that to understand? If the game crashes I would have included that.I have read the instructions ,of course. The mods go into origin sim city data. You are mentioning CoT?What is that? And what's this toolbar you have mentioned? The game auto installs all patches. What mod/mods are you trying to install? Some mods need other mods to work properly. CoT is the simcity 2013 expansion, "Cities of Tomorrow" I think he means by toolbar are the game menus at the bottom of the screen (UI). Some mods go into certain menu to access them, like road tools, buildings, atc. The more info you can provide in your description, the better we can help you. It is hard to diagnose an issue with a simple, it doesn't work. That's all Agente Silva was saying. Be step by step as possible. something trivial to you could be detrimental to us in figuring out the problem. Last resort, (Maybe first resort), go to the mods forum section and read the posts for advice or known issues. Asking there would probably result in faster fixes, since you can get info straight from the author or people with experience with the mod in question. Good luck -=Mark=-
  20. Can't play, lagging like crazy (Mac)

I have an i3-4340 (3.6Ghz dual core) with iGPU HD4600 with 16GB ram and I've loaded my 355k city and it is now lagging too bad to play. I've cover 3/4 of the map. Any macbook will never reach this, let alone any laptop as they are laptops and all parts are low powered and/or crippled to save power so they can be mobile. Too bad Intel doesn't specify this on their mobile chips. they just say they run HD4000 and not a HD4000m as they run significantly slower. so, any laptop will need dedicated graphics or they will lag out very quickly as your city grows. ps, my scores above are for windows. I can't even get 1 fps on my hackintosh. It takes several minutes to load and takes over 5 minutes to exit as it is so unresponsive from lag.
  21. What Are Your System Specs?

Well, looking at the game's system requirements, the recommended requires a GTX 660 or higher. A GTX 750 TI would be close to GTX 660, generally speaking. The GTX 745 would leave you a little bit higher than the minimum requirements. I have a Core i3-4340 (3.6GHz Dual core) with a GTX 650 Ti and I loaded my 355k city with all 25-tiles unlocked and 3/4 full. I can maintain 15-45 FPS (15 fps when zoomed in street level, and 30FPS at mid zoom level which I play 90% of my game on, and 45 fps when zoomed all of the way out) on a 1080p (1920 x 1080) monitor and 16GB (all of windows uses less then 4GB, The actual game uses 2.8GB) on default high graphics settings) So if you want high or very high setting throughout the whole game, then GTX 660 is definitely minimum. 30FPS and above is smooth, 15fps or lower get bad lag when scrolling the map. Hope this helps -=Mark=-
  22. Police Cars Disappear on UniDirectional Roads

You need to scroll down to my post on the last page for the link. Here's the link again. https://www.dropbox.com/s/hivshmmsr61pd1g/SkyePack3_1.rar?dl=0 Make sure you watch the video so you can remove and mods you don't want. To get a million pop you will need a steep learning curve. Basic idea is no traffic. Keep sims off the streets by making them walk. For example: RRRCRRRCRRRC CRRRCRRRCRRR RCRRRCRRRCRR RRCRRRCRRRCR RRRCRRRCRRRC This way each residential is next door to a commerce. Other wise they will get in their car to travel more than like 3 blocks iirc. If you look through SkyeStome's videos you'll see how he does it. It's a little different than what I do, but should get you there. You'll also need a second city to provide water, power, and sewage. also, you can put police, fire, and medical there as well. I like them in my city for better coverage. It can take a while for vehicles to travel from one city to another. especially if freeway traffic and/or local traffic is bad.
  23. Actually I think it is a very smart system, Considering the whole game runs on a single agent system. It was poorly coded in 32-bit and single threaded. With those limitations it was a sensible decision. I mean look at skylines. The sims have a certain house and a certain job, but they couldn't make the simulation run in a 24 cycle that SC13 does. It simulates morning and even rush hours. Skylines seems to have workers on 24/7 shifts or random irrational hours. It would be very difficult to have sims traveling very long distances unable to keep a real job because it would never realistically get to their job on time. I'm sure CO quickly found out the huge difficulties of sims living in the same house and made several sacrifices to make the game work like it does. SC13 has several more sims types being simulated which gives the game a more life like feel. Skylines feels like sc4 with the fake traffic that looks more like its for show. In fact, the game seems more like CiM than a simcity game and it even fails in that department with too heavy traffic causing vehicles to disappear, which makes it harder to see the real issues you are having. SC13 would let your city burn to the ground. although I did request several times to the developers in dev-test to make difficulty level in game and let traffic disappear to make it easier for beginners. instead of having only expert mode. To me, it's less about how the agents are represented than how the game plays. SC13 plays like a game that has real consequences for poor mayoral skills. Skylines seems to be just a mapmaker with a few annoying rules slowing you down. so I can live with the stupid agents then have stupid non 24 city cycles (rush hours are a very good early indicator of you have something wrong), traffic disappearing (Gives you a false sense of traffic/city design is fine), not to mention all the city service, utilities, specializations, etc so long story short, SC13 feels like a game, skylines feels like a map maker program. In the long run, I think skylines will become more than Simcity, mainly because EA has abandoned the franchise, well destroyed the franchise may be a better word.. but if you don't play SC13 because of stupid agents, you are missing out on a real great game (minus the small maps, insane bugs, and a ton of workarounds. lol) Be prepared for tons of issues and maybe unplayable completely. There are tons of issues with the Mac and Linux ports. I wish you luck -=Mark=-
  24. Police Cars Disappear on UniDirectional Roads

It's easier to educate them than to have massive police/fire/medial services. and takes up less room for more population. Actually, one university will educate about 500k pop. I've built 1 million pop cities with 2 universities. It's not easy and you'll need a support city for services/utilities of your city. But 800k self-supporting city is easily doable. all without any mods. Once you learn the ins and outs of traffic, you don't even need road mods, or any mods really. It's just a large learning curve to figure out the workarounds. As for the UDoN, the first post says: I've been a tester of this little gem, and I can say it is phenomenal! Watch those roundabouts tho, there seems to be an odd bug where agents get eaten. So don't place service buildings like police, clinic, or fire right next to one. So maybe avoiding roundabouts will be your workaround? assuming you use them. also, don't be afraid to bulldoze your streets. If you replace them they will hold their building density for a long time. So they will start off high density skyscrapers, it they were there before bulldozing. You could also use SkyeStormes' mod. He has a good road mod, plus other good mods all in one bundle. His website is down, but I linked an old version (3.1) in this post. http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/45/9963973.page also, check out skyestormes' youtube videos. they are very helpful and very informative.
  25. Police Cars Disappear on UniDirectional Roads

You need to check the UniDirectionaloads mods forum. They are the only ones who can help you. If you want lower crime, then build schools. They will cut crime (crime prevention) down to almost nothing with a single small police station and a few cars. They do the same for hospitals (germs), and fire (fire safety), and even help houses so they have solar power and reduce electric consumption. Schools are the single most important building in the game. It should be oine of the first buildings you plop. Remember, late game Precincts add-ons are useful for: Radio tower to speed up arrest time. Detective wing to keep criminals at large low (needed for casino cities) Crime Prevention - to prevent criminals at large.
