Simcity reviews are in: the embargo is lifted!
Crazy_Ivan80 replied to Xenocity's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yes. And if you can't see why, then there's really no point in explaining it to you, but I'll try. Sequels are not remakes. yet remakes are always compared with the originals. The principle goes for movies and series, there's no reason why this principle shouldn't be applied to games too. Unless, indeed, there's the fear that it won't stand up to what went before.About the only place where the comparison isn't readily made is in music, and even then. In other words: even if they're reviewing 'this' game it is right and proper to compare it to the older simcities. In as far as reviewers are actually worth anything anymore in this age of 9+ this and 9+ that, where obvious turds all too often get that 9+ because it's publicshed by a big publisher. Most reviews are a farce anyway. -
I'm sure they mean sharing your villages

It's not that meteorhits are impossible. They're rare but the few examples where people actually understood what happened have been spectacular in their destruction. (Tunguska in the early 20th century is quite famous) Meteors hitting earth is definately an issue that is taken serious in the appropriate circles, even if we can't do much to stop the rocks from hitting.

Simplification of Games - The path chosen by EA

patience is a skill that can be learned. If they didn't learn it, it's because someone wasn't willing to teach them. It seems we're missing both these days. we're going tits up. But we can conviently blame the '68ers -

Simcity Reboot doomed by the fans?
Crazy_Ivan80 replied to Zombeast's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Sorry but I 100% disagree with this. We don't owe anything to Maxis/EA, and they don't owe anything to us. I certainly am not going to buy anything they put out just because past titles were excellent. Bottom line is I will buy the game if it looks good, but the information released lately has not made the game look any better in my eyes. We are still a long way from release and that may change. Maxis has given me many, many years of digital enjoyment. The least I can do is give their reboot of my favorite series a try. I've yet to see anything that DOESN'T look fun in the footage. I see plenty of people not giving it a chance though because they can't have a road with a special median, or a certain style of subway. Maxis (or EA, as Maxis is just a brandname nowadays) has given you nothing. You payed for it. That means that the accounts have been settled and neither of you owes the other anything -
nothing. not buying

what corner? one might ask. Still lots of improvement possible on SC4

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks
Crazy_Ivan80 replied to alvinheriadi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
maybe I'm stupid or so but I have yet to find out where SC4 is complex in such a fashion that it makes gameplay hard. Just keep that budget in black and the rest points to itself, just as it has been doing since the SC2K (which was indeed far more complex than SC) And hopefully those roads change cause otherwise a european tileset is basically worthless. We don't have that here. We'd ahve to tear down our cities to accommodate such roads, meaning that we wouldn't be needing the roads after all as we just levelled our cities -

little to disagree with. However... - seize =/= cease. ->One seizes a vessel as a pirate ->One ceases to exist when dead (maybe due to above pirate-attack) -
EA: Ads In Games Will Be A Success
Crazy_Ivan80 replied to jacksunny's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
no advertising in my game please. there's enough advertising already, I don't need on even more places. And assumign it get in anyways, then there have to be monetary rewards given that these adverts would invade my game, my free time and would eat up my bandwith. all of which have monetary value. I already payed for the game, you will not earn money by forcing adds onto me. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
Crazy_Ivan80 replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The main reason that the game is online is to prevent piracy . and we all know that hasn't stopped one pirate ever. On the contrary, the pirates get to play their game hassle-free. -
A timeline or More Tilesets?
Crazy_Ivan80 replied to jigsaw's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
't Would be nice if Maxis made a Low Countries Golden Era set: - Medieval and Renaissance Gothic from Flanders (think Brugge, Gent, Kortrijk, Brussel, Antwerp, Rijsel, Doornik, etc) - Renaissance and Baroque to 17th and 18th century from Holland and in lesser amount Flanders (Antwerp, Amsterdam, etc) After that the region connects with industrial revolution style building. Would be pretty nice imho -
The whole environmental bent worries me
Crazy_Ivan80 replied to LivingInThePast's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ideally there'd be several generations of classical and not so classical powerplants available. Taking coal as an example: the older and cheaper but very polluting versions, and more expensive versions that pollute less. with the most expensive version being the high tech coal plants they're building today. -

Originally posted by: hjanfield Not only can you still purchase SimCity 4, but it's still kept on the main retail shelves (not the bargain bin). This speaks well for the longevity of the game.quote> Somethign that could be used as an argument in favour should someone talk with Maxis/EA. Community patching is done at no cost to EA and increases the longeavity of the product resulting in more sales. (and well purchase-and-download sales can go one for ever). The only example of this I know of is Freespace 2. The source code was released years ago and the game is still being upgraded. Originals also fetch high prices at online sales, but a free version is availalbe via the Underdogs. Howver, would Interplay not have folded online-sales of the game would certainly be a small but constant source of revenue nowadays simple because the game is a cult-classic and has high-quality mods that still attract new players.
