Expansion packs for SimCity
CXLMachine replied to thegametrent22's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ive spent $200+ on sims 2 and on sims 3. Its only logical that SC will be an easy $300 game for me. DLC will be a must since the core game will be so limited -
SimCity (5) System Requirements
CXLMachine replied to JoeOh's topic in SimCity (2013) Technical Help Q&A
So basically what the new system specs are: Quad @2.4ghz Win7 or newer 4Gbs ram (system total or program available? cuz with win7 I have 2.5 gb left over) and an NV 2xx card or an ati 5xxx series card, 768 mb vram+ Seems normal to me at this point in time -
I participated in the CXL beta as a lot of us were able to. Now weve all paid for a copy and still play it to this day!

Speculation & Discussion
CXLMachine replied to waybig's topic in SimCity (2013) Modding - Open Discussion
I would figure that when visiting another region and coming into another's city that your computer would have to temporarily download the mods used. Seeing as how EA would hate to support that without charging a fee, likely youll only find EA creating real life buildings instead of anything incredibly imaginary that you can decorate your city with. The more they create, the more the cities will vary. I just wish they would tour skyscrapercity.com and model everything they can find time to and sell it as DLC. Or wait for the offline expansion and then well be free. Give it four years.. -
Thats a really nice looking little town. Im probably going to have a problem developing a city further than that as itll lead to a skyscraper oasis. Still looking forward.

as for now, city tiles arent tiled throughout the region. Therefore that would possibly be the smallest region area with 16 city tiles within it. I would guess a region to be ~18km x 18km where 64km^ is develop able and 260km^ is not According to this: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9165065.page I'm just about right on the money except for considering the areas for building great works.

I dont know about the rest of you but in such a small region I really dont want mountains in them. A valley can easiy consume a few 4km^ tiles

Discussion about City Tile Size
CXLMachine replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Seriously if they only tiled the region with city tiles, most of us would be content with the game overall. At the very least let this happen within our own dedicated region. Of which I would guarantee you to see hardcore fans buying the game. On a side note, CXL maps are 10.6 X 10.6. NOT 10 x 10. or 6.6 miles squared. Thats 112 square kilometers vs. sc13's 4......I just died momentarily- 1,284 Replies

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks
CXLMachine replied to alvinheriadi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
They just dont want to go through and rewrite how everything works in order to allow for a period of time through the simulation that a route would not be available with a return while the player constructs it. Im guessing you cant lay anything down without a road being present to it or the sim will crash. Thats just my imagination speaking -
Discussion about City Tile Size
CXLMachine replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The size is more so a memory constraint, You can slow the simulation down so that the processing can be handled. I just upped my memory to 16gb. I really dont see this game being moddable. they wont let us take this game out of their hands like we took sc4 and made it unprofitable- 1,284 Replies

the lots are automatically drawn but you still choose RCI. You do not however choose the density of them and they, IMO, are way too damn deep and leave too much green space when theyre low density.

Discussion about City Tile Size
CXLMachine replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I had issues with cxl giving us prefab maps with limited resource allocations too, until mods and custom map came on the scene. But this is far far worse! Prefab maps with pre-baked resources and on top of that prefab suburbs in fixed spots, with fixed regional network laid out for you. Seriously, what kind of prefab city sim is this? What got me twisted up were the crater maps and mountain maps where the mountain was the centerpiece....Where is the city supposed to be?- 1,284 Replies

SimCity: Wishlists
CXLMachine replied to VeritaScientia's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
LOL yeah we cant have you people with "those" wishlists, we need to all look them over and talk you into something different. I of course dont follow the crowd of recreation of real world anything. I would really like to find Maxis created buildings sold as dlc if modding isnt actually allowed. then we can purchase the rarities. you know they like money.. -
SimCity Vs Cities Xl 2012

Discussion about City Tile Size
CXLMachine replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I hope theyre just holding off on telling us what theyre really going to do about these tile sizes. They also really have to dump the terrains they have shown us as no city would really be built on or within that horrifying canyon of a landscape. CXL gave us some really crappy maps to build cities on. I wouldnt build a city on a crater, it isnt "cool" as they claim. Its crazy stupid. I have high hope for this game still. just hurry up and get it released with connected town tiles. In our own region we can lay our own connecting roads throughout the tiles while in a shared region they are already placed. Or we can edit our own region and then decide to share it. It can be done right, its just a question on if they will actually do it that way...- 1,284 Replies

Modding tools for Sim City 2013
CXLMachine replied to ctp133's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I would bet that all modding would be done by them and presented as DLC. Only if online fails will they possibly open the game to modding by users. but once they allow that, their DLC would be undesirable. -End Game- for them and theyll admit defeat. Maybe thats 3 years down the road well of course all modding wont be buildings necessarily -
SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks
CXLMachine replied to alvinheriadi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The thing that needed to be tweaked in particular were the heavy rail tracks... a 35 degree grade just doesn't make sense for them, 10 degrees should really be the maximum. Light rail however will share the same tuning as regular roads. I'm glad you're fixing that, 35 degrees......was Ozzy going to be the engineer, cause that sounds like that'd be one Crazy Train!! According to Wikipedia for what it's worth, the greatest grade they mention is 13.5%, the greatest that there's sources to verify is 11.6% I don't know what that is in degrees, though. 10 degree grade = 5.74 % slope -
Sure it does. Your refutation doesn't make any sense. If it was strictly offline only, and I was running a brand new 8-core 32GB RAM Nvidia GTX680 x2 SLI setup -- it could probably run a region 10x the size. What basis do you have that there is some engine restriction? The wording of everything they've said alludes to performance restrictions based on what the system requirements are, not what the engine can handle. Glassbox, as explained in the videos as well as the technical powerpoint presentation last spring, shouldn't be restricted in that manner. The macro-level statistics that are compiled are going to be the same whether 10k or 100k agents are involved. Agents themselves are a data container that inherit certain decision trees -- the processing of their decisions with proper multi-threading could be shunt off to any free core on the system. Guillaume said himself that the restrictions are because of the engine, not multiplayer. Even if the game was offline, the city sizes would still be the same because they want everybody to be able to play this game, from budget computers to high-performance gaming PCs. They need to rebuild this on 64-bit. If its that demanding then let it have some freaking resources. Then they can separate us online in small lots and large lots. Why does everyone have to be equal!? you can hold a record for a small lot or a large lot. I dont see whats so hard. follow the rest of the crowd and use todays software standards. What do you think will make you more money? a lot of people playing small cities and getting bored with it and then abandoning the game or catering to the large crowd with larger maps and keeping the devoted crowd? then you can milk us with $10 buildings

An idea to alliviate the small size of the cities
CXLMachine replied to Mithrik's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
For the computer to run the game efficiently, i think you'll have to wait a little longer before it will be possible to make such big tiles, especially with an awesome engine as the Glassbox. But i definately agree, i wish the tiles would be bigger too. (my maps is made of only big tiles in SC4, and i could use more space! ) I think this is easily possible. its just not likely that everyone will have the hardware to run it. From what Ive read, this game may be a 32-bit program. That itself has its limitations on what the hardware is allowed to do. The average computer only has a 32-bit os, 2gb ram, a dual core cpu, and a half gig graphics processor. Thats all theyre going to be designing this game for unless they cave on offline play which they wont. Nobody should have an advantage over another other than in skill and luck. -
Sims players love Simcity 2013? News to me......

You sir are my new "Best SimCity Friend" -
will i be able to run sim city 2013 on my system?
CXLMachine replied to flyers70's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Im going to have agree with what han solo is suggesting. This is really all youll need for a decent gaming machine. Im thinking the price is a little steep but Im thinking the conversion rate is coming out to $2200 USD and in my head and that just too much for all of that. So I may be wrong. Whatever it is you fancy and purchase I do wish you luck on getting something youre happy with. We cant be without our games!
