In my mind I call them the bubble elements (or bubblements). And they make great Christmas ornaments Enjoy. [Click image for full size] Looking at the image, I'm guessing the colored orbs indicate what category of Trixie the person has, with the strings extending from a user indicating a year. I'm also guessing the position of the orb against the user indicates what year those awards were received (2003 from the top of the user and working clockwise).

Those are not my videos, just videos posted on YouTube simulating those intersection designs. As for the software, I believe VISSIM was used for the PFI example, but I don't know what was used for the CFI example.

For a while now I've been looking at various 2 phase intersection designs, primarly the Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) and the Parallel Flow Intersection(PFI). 2 phase intersections work by changing the left turning traffic so it turns at the same time as either thru traffic or cross traffic. In an CFI arrangement, the left turning traffic will cross the opposing thru traffic before the main intersection, then will turn left at the intersection. This design allows for significantly more left turning traffic than a standard intersection, but because of the cross over it makes the intersection wider and the needed approach longer. Here's an example of a 4 legged CFI: Now presently in the United States there are no 4 legged CFIs, but in Mexico there are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLKOiIHooTA. The craziest I've found is actually a Double CFI with 3 crossing roads and a Double left crossover. It resembles a game of Frogger! Even more amazing is this intersection is still in use 23 years later. Now as for PFIs... they are rather recent development. Unlike their CFI cousin, the PFI doesn't have left turning cross over at the start. The left turning traffic avoids the intersection entirely, turning left right in front of it and moving with the crossing traffic. The left turning traffic then waits at a light to cross back over to the right side. The benefit of this design is it doesn't require as long of an approach as the CFI does, and it also allows for significantly more traffic than an ordinary intersection, but because the crossover happens at the end, it means the left turning traffic will have to wait at 2 different lights. Here's an example of a 4 legged PFI: The only PFI I could find was a 2 legged version in Camden, NJ.

Would it be possible to make pieces that would allow for the creation of Continuous Flow Intersections or Superstreet Intersections? Honestly I'd love to have intersections without left turns at all so I could build things like Michigan lefts.

Odds are even if Sim City is successful, they will most likely want to release expansion packs for new features, mechanics, world types (sim mars maybe?) and DLC for different architecture styles, parks and other aesthetical things.

All the versions of Windows 8 have this as a "tile." In the case of Cockatoo's post on page 1, it's the tile in the lower left corner. The desktop tile uses what ever background you have set as the tile's image. Windows RT (which was formerly known as Windows on ARM (WoA)) also has the desktop tile, but since it's only for ARM, it doesn't allow you to install 3rd party apps to the desktop. No doubt this will lead to another anti-competitive suit against them from the EU as you can only run Microsoft's Software on the desktop of Windows RT. Having used the Consumer Preview a few months ago, I can say I don't really like it. Mostly because I felt confused through most of my experience, trying to figure out simple things again, such as how to open the control panel that has everything as opposed to the touch friendly one, or how to shut down the bloody thing. I wish I could have tested the Metro Apps, but my 6 year old PC couldn't get them to run, which probably screws with my opinion of W8. The Metro interface however was rather nice if a bit useless for me. The new search system is fantastic as it can also search within apps installed. All in all it has quite a few improvements, but the major UI changes are probably going to drive the most sane legacy Windows user crazy.

Writable books and Single Player Commands are currently in the most recent weekly snapshot and will be in version 1.3.0. The book recipe however has changed to 3 paper & 1 leather. To make a book you can write in, you'll need to place 1 book, 1 ink sac, & 1 feather in the crafting grid. Also cocoa plants are in the most recent snapshot and will be available in jungle biomes.

I finished The Hunger Games trilogy (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay) last weekend. It's quite a easy read but the material can get a bit heavy at times, which is especially true in the 3rd book.

I haven't participated in an Earth Hour since 2008. This is because I realized that due to the poor nature of the power in my neighborhood, I lose an average of 3 days worth of electricity a year. Sure I'm aware that Earth Hour is more about the social image you project when your windows go dark, but since I tend to go dark most days when nobody's home, I feel it's a bit pointless for me. That and I figure better electricity habits would be a more effective thing that turning off all my lights for an hour.

After looking at the GlassBox presentation I can see this having some interesting uses in other simulation games, such as a Sim Tower game or Sim Ant game.

Figured it was time to upgrade to 11.10 though I think Unity still has a way to go before I'll really enjoy it out of the box.

This actually changed in 1.8. Peaceful mobs became persistent in preparation for 1.9 (which became 1.0.0). This is really evident when you sheer a group of sheep, leave the area, and then return; All the sheered sheep will still be there. Since animal breeding is in the game, it's possible to get more animals, and with them being attracted to wheat, it makes it possible to herd animals to gated fields and the like. On the news of Jeb being the lead developer of Minecraft, this is probably significant news, but I don't know how this will affect further development of the game since I don't know which stuff was worked by Notch and which stuff was worked by Jeb.
