Maxis better have a good plan brewing for the community... I'm really getting tired of all these negativity.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
As much as I feel for the people who hate the idea of the game being online-only, I'm also beginning to consider repetitive rants like this as an eye sore. Edit: Thanks for merging the topics. -
I actually consider everything until release as speculations. We never know, they could suddenly decide to take a slightly different route like they did with Spore. But yes, E3 would be something interesting to look forward to - the only thing I'm hoping for right now is an official announcement on the availability of a fully solo mode.

When I say "new generation of players" it means a group of people, whatever the age group, with different interests compared to most of the fans (ie business minded people, green activists or anti, people who prefer online competition/coop, and others). :| As others have already stated... Whatever the mechanisms behind the them, any review should always be taken with a grain of salt. Walking on your line of thought - remember statistics can also be faked... Either way, if you'd rather jump in the public bandwagon, whether if it contradicts your own preference or not, then that's your choice. As much as I hate SCS too, may I see your "statistics" to back up that claim? - For the sake of understandability.. yes, I'm being sarcastic.

Why the need to make an external link? Either way, most of the things you're pointing out already have topics of their own: [closed] No word on open beta or demo yet.

Ofcourse you can't expect every gaming site to have the same opinion as yours. It really boils down to what you personally prefer. A failure (on release) with much of the core SC fans is possible. But so far, I can't see this as something that will fail miserably in the end. This new game will also be catering to a new generation of players.

^ As much as I'd hate to tackle map size since there is already a topic for this, 2x2 is the only size they've mentioned so far (which is also the size of the medium map on SC4). We still have no idea if this is the only map that will be available or if there will be other sizes. Personally, with all the positive promises they've given us, I wouldn't mind if 2x2 is the max size of a map since I would still be able to control the whole region. But ofcourse, more variety would be better. Either way, it's too early to be gravely criticizing the game at this point.

^ Thanks for the pics! 1st pic: Looks like government buildings. Including a city hall, and the mayor's statue? 2nd pic: Ground floor restaurant, and hotel on the upper floors. There's also a dog.

Actually I'd prefer social mobility and gentrification visualized (or atleast mentioned in simple text format) separately to distinguish the two. Moving on.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ocean said that they know the power of the modding community - from recreating the game down to fixing bugs (I'm assuming they mean changing the mechanics). So I'm quite sure there will be an offline mode option as soon as modding tools become available, or maybe even at an earlier date. Though ofcourse, online authentication will probably still be a requirement. -
http://kotaku.com/5896976/simcity-is-more-expansive-and-detailed-than-ever-yet-remarkably-true-to-its-roots I don't see the big deal. There is still social mobility and progression, it's just happening on a larger scale and not down to individual sims. Hasn't Simcity always been this way(actually, this is far more detailed than ever before)? The computing power it would take to track hundreds of thousands of Sims on top of everything else is just not feasible yet. Yeah, that's cool. Hopefully that seems what it is, that is, citizens can actually change class. I don't have any issues if it only occurs in groups, as long as it takes place and can be influenced by the player. I'm still crossing my fingers though. For now, I'll assume the problem on social mobility as solved. Thanks for clearing that one up.

EA: Ads In Games Will Be A Success
meowza replied to jacksunny's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ads or no ads, online play should be free. Real-life advertising within the game is a good idea if done correctly. Blending the ad well so that it becomes an asset rather than a nuisance. -
SimCity: The Three Biggest Influences on Art Style
meowza commented on jwazydizzle28's article in News
More tilt-shift videos and discussion here Just to make it clear for everybody, these are simply rough estimates on how the game might visually feel like. Maxis had already said that they're going for a clean and stylized look, not hyper-real. -
How do you imagine social mobility in a game like simcity while keeping the results of your decisions to build or not build that high school/prison/homeless shelter in a certain area clear? Houses can improve if you make the area nicer to live in, or worse if you remove services or add NIMBYs. You don't need to simulate citizens to do that, only the houses. If you change jobs from company A to company B and move to a new home closer to B, another person will take your job at A and probably move closer to A. You don't have to model this movement as one 'sim' replaces another, it doesn't matter for the big picture of the city. Ofcourse I'm not expecting each citizen to constantly convert each of their houses in the game. I bet there are many ways, like I said, to create an illusion for social mobility without using up too much resources. Like how Maxis created volumetric illusion for cars and buildings via internal mapping. They could have just passed on the idea, but they applied it to the game anyway. Even though it never really mattered much to the core of the simulation, or should I say, the "bigger picture". --- The way the devs have been explain it, I don't think there was ever an illusion of social mobility from the very beginning. They seem to be intentionally disregarding the fact that it exists.

What's a city's worth without its citizens? The answer is elementary. It's true that one of the issues of SCS is that it focused too much on individuals, but that doesn't mean that the new SC should make the citizens unrealistic. They can add giant bowling balls into the game, but not social mobility? If they can't emulate social mobility due to tech constraints, then they could atleast create a low-cost illusion for it.

We don't exactly know what that 200k is comprised of yet. That could simply be just the max number of agents on transit at any given time (afaik certain agents may contain more than 1 citizen, ie mass transit agents). We also don't know for which map size that number is assigned for.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
CitiesXL's online mode failed because it lacked depth in gameplay, as many game reviewers have said. The new SimCity however seems like it has improved gameplay compared to the previous titles. But at this point of time, nobody can really tell until we get our hands on the game. -
Economy, Sociology, Demography, Climatology and Urban Planning are probably just some of the scientific branches the new SimCity will be tackling. Spore's "mistake"? Do you think Maxis can more or less accurately reflect real life concepts through the new game, without compromising marketability and gameplay for both rookie and hardcore players?

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
"most SimCity fans" maybe not the target audience anymore. ... That's what's confusing me. If you remember from the past Reddit AMAA, Kip specifically mentioned: "We’re targeting the fans who grew up with the franchise for sure". So why force everyone to go online? Or are there other 'special' plans for us? -
I don't like it one bit, despite their recent explanations. Though not to the point that it would deter me from getting the game. If they really want to inspire and educate kids correctly, then they must fix this. If not, then they should just rename the citizens to "Dumb Sims".

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
For over 20 years, most SimCity fans have been used to or prefer offline solo play. So to suddenly force everyone to go online is a huge risk. There must be an easier way to take-in this medicine.
