  1. Welcome back to Simtropolis!

Oh yes, it feels so good! Even though I really can't say that I love the new look and feel, but I guess it's just a matter of time to get at least somehow used to it. If only the other themes actually worked... It's a shame that they don't. And I think somebody already mentioned this: The topic arranging is really messy and bug-infested. For example, I did a search for the RHW topic since I didn't see it elsewhere and it showed the last post being on 02/23/06. Correct, I think. But then it isn't in the transit modding section at all! The url had 'catid=124' when I checked it. So... please do something to that problem. It's hard to enjoy anything if it doesn't work. And I really miss the ability to use HTML... I'm not threatening to leave, but I'm afraid I won't be as regular poster before the worst bugs/properties get fixed. I could make a veeeery long list of them, but I haven't contributed anything moneywise. I wish I could do that, but I can't. Whatever... /Zed
  2. Skeleton Coast

Not bad... But that is really very far from the real thing, so good that you mentioned it yourself. @azul All that's required from config colors is that they have the full 255 of the one color. So RGB 255,254,254 would be classified as red and etc.
  3. The ^,<, and v game!

^ Typed something. v Doesn't know what my old teddybear's name is.
  4. Joensuu Finland

[cont. (too. little. space. argh.)] Still, it is a good map. And it also makes a fantastic SC4 region due to the fact that it's flat => easy to build on. And waterways are good, too.
  5. Joensuu Finland

Finland is the home of Mr. Torvalds, yes. Although he belongs to the minority of 'Finnish Swedes'. But that doesn't matter. The map there is great. I'm finnish myself, but I haven't been to Joensuu (which means 'river's mouth', FYI), so I can't say wether this is accurate or not. [cont.]

  7. GAME OVER

I once did that for fun and to see what'd happen. I took the full 500 000
  8. Avatar Caption Game

    Hey, dontcha dare try anything!
  9. Ground Monorail

Maybe I'll have to pop out one more time... The reason why GLR was based on the original el-rail network is that we can't make new traffic types. Elevated rail is actually elevated light rail, so it was chosen as the base. If we could add our own networks, I bet there would be dozens of them. There's always something that could be added. Monorail-over-road puzzle pieces would be possible, but they're so much work that currently nobody is working on them. As far as I know, at least... /Zed
  10. Hardun Coal Power Plant

@espee It is... SC4 is best at making towns from 1950's USA. That is, without fantastic addons such as this one. Fantastic work, SG! This is stunning when compared to the original one. Besides, Hardun is a name which doesn't necessarily have to be english... Hmm...
  11. Ground Monorail

Maglev... That's a very good idea. And it's almost like monorail, anyway. It would practically need 3D models as well. Wouldn't they be theoretically needed in any kind of modded monorail network, since the original in the game uses them? Although, personally I would prefer just better-looking version of the monorail there is already. Enough rambling from me... Do whatever you want, if you even do. It's quite a lot of work. Good bye. Oh, BTW, welcome to page 2... /Zed
  12. @Schmicky Every single installer program should ask you where to install. So check where it's putting your chosen NAM files, and there it is. Just open the folder and the view should be extremely similar to what it was like before. But you said RHW doesn't work even though it loads after NAM... That's strange. I guess you could try reinstalling NAM. Apparently it helped 1dera, so maybe you, too. It's worth trying and be sure to read all installation instructions. /Zed
  13. Ground Monorail

[This was supposed to be posted yesterday, but forums were unavailable at the time I hit submit] And to further proof my point of monorail's impossiblity on ground level... Monorail train / Light rail train (Photos) Both are relatively modern vehicles and represent their own technologies quite well. Now look at the bottoms of them. I want you to concentrate especially on the tracks and floor levels. On LR, the tracks are small and easily embedded to a road surface. Floor level almost touches ground on newer models. Monorail, on the other hand has a very high 'skirt' under the floor, which adds up to one third of the height of the whole vehicle. And it has a purpose, it's not just there to look good. It covers the wheels and power-taking systems. Track is a single, thick beam on which the train 'lies' and moves on wheels, which are mostly on the sides behind the skirt, not straight under the chassis as in LRV's. (Now that was a long sentence...) Additionally, monorails take their power from wires running alongside the beam instead of any overhead system or such. Now tell me, how would you embed that kind of system into ground without making it imposibble for it to work. I can answer. There is no way of doing it. You can make a 'ditch' to make it look from certain angles like the train is running on ground level. Really it's still elevated, but with much lowered support pylons. Level road crossings... impossible. Unless of course you implemented some kind of drawbridge mechanism, but they could fault and cause accidents. Costs would be pretty much the same as with a truly elevated system. As a conclusion, no GMR to SimCity without modding it to actually completely another network. So sorry, but nope. /Zed
  14. NAM: Requests

@pjot One abbreviation. OMG So those actually work?! Dear Lord, I couldn't have even dreamed about something like that, and now there it is in front of my eyes. Please release those as quickly as possible. /Zed
  15. @frigid While looking through the description of that Transit Supermod, it seems that all of its functions are nowadays included in the NAM. So just remove that (very old) mod you have and install NAM. You need it to get RHW to work, since it relies on ANT, which is included in the NAM as well. Or if you have NAM already, then at least remove your old mod. I bet they conflict with each other, seeing that they alter same things in the game. /Zed
  16. Im getting depressed

Date: 2/18/2006 9:52:02 PM Author: BubbaGump There should be a manual in the box....quote> There is, but it isn't very helpful if you have problems with maintaining a city in good condition. It just explains the basic features of the game. As people have said, you need a lot of patience. My first cities were just downright crappy, and I'm still not a master in the real game. But instead, I have found it fun to build nice-looking cities with money 'cheats' (not the best word when speaking of SC4). I've never accomplished a real metropolis, but I still like my towns very much. I have practiced over the years (yes, I said years), and with the nice bunch of tricks that I have, I'm able to create very nice cities, even if they wouldn't function at all without the extensive use of money... ...let's say 'methods'. Don't be depressed, you will get better over time. You won't master anything perfectly in a few days. BTW, I cropped that oversized sig image for you. Here you go: /Zed
  17. The Avatar Above Me

I guess that's supposed to be funny... But it really isn't, in my opinon at least. 6.47/10
  18. No, don't you see? There's traffic lights and crosswalk textures. But never mind, it isn't that important... Actually, I found something very similar on STEX, but it wasn't exactly like that. So much for an innocent small side-question... /Zed
  19. No, not those. The pedestrian crosswalks that you've circled in bright red. I said crossings, not anything about turning lanes. Besides, if I didn't know what NAM includes, you'd be free to call me a fool. I practically work with part of it, after all... /Zed
  20. Do you mean that those NRZ's appear after you use one-ways for that? That's weird. But anyway, it's a long known old bug that the game sometimes thinks buildings don't have access even though they actually do have. Certain things might trigger it. It's harmless and usually fades away when you put the simulator running. BTW, what are those crossing lots? I've never seen them before... /Zed
  21. New interchange

Yup... Anyway, I made my own version of a similar interchange. It's here. As I said, those take up huge amounts of land, so I'd prefer a more minimalistic approach. Usually when I use avenues as highways myself, I just use NAM's overpasses to get over the ave and then drag street or road to one side of the avenue. It works perfectly well and is much smaller. /Zed
  22. Chain Reaction!

  23. Mountain Roads - A Mini Tutorial by Rochefort

Date: 2/16/2006 5:10:12 PM Author: storms991 nice, although I only terraform water, easier to grow buildingsquote> I have to be honest here storms, you lost me with this post. quote> I think he means all he ever terraforms in his regions is waterways, since hills and mountains make it harder to get a good-looking city... Anyway, this is a very good guide. Very good, I say. It will help me in some places. Omnibus quality. /Zed
  24. New interchange

That is... interesting. It works and doesn't even look too bad. Slope mod would help to get the looks even better, but that's nice as well. I've always liked the ability to drag one-ways from avenues like that, too. They make great interchanges. Unfortunately though, a design like that takes up a lot of space, so I can only really see it useful in lower-density areas. But there it's nice. Oh, BTW, that multi-highway setup of yours (the other thread) is definitely an overkill. /Zed
  25. Wood County - Rebirth

Date: 2/14/2006 11:16:31 PM Author: zelgadis So... Is that Russian? Been wondering about that... quote> No, actually it's English with Greek alphabets. But let's just play that it's Tolerneese. And by the way, TMS, you should thank Zelgadis for making me finally reply here. I've been following this CJ, too, for some time but just haven't had anything worth posting to say before. But now I will say: Simply WOW. Wood County is amazing. The way you present it to us is very nice. Anyhow, it's kind of sad that you've had to try three times. But it's also good since every time is better than the previous. Good job. /Zed
