I've had abandonment and the query tool not report why, but the building will be empty. I'm assuming your building is empty? I don't know why this happens to myself but it is abandonment in my experience. -
Originally posted by: Idleness75 Peorth, i think that is just not true...I have a city with pretty much zero pollution, i bulldozed all my dirty and man. industry, and started replacing with high tech, desirability was only accomplished by placing parks...i could actually watch and see the green sread out around a park i had just placed....parks seem to have little impact on anything but giving desirability to high techquote> Similar, but there are plenty of times where I would have zoned industry without any growth of high tech industry despite enormous demand. But then i found placing some flower gardens, I could induce growth of HT industry with ease.

I find land value has an impact on it as well. I had a medium zone largely designated as Dirty Industrial with some Manufacturing, and I decided to zone residential without any amenities at first to fill the rest of the space. The housing was low density and all low wealth. I then introduced water and hospitals, along with a handful of parks, and started having an influx of tens of thousands of low wealth citizens. There were some medium wealth citizens, but none too many wanted to deal with polluted water/air.

Ah, you're right. All the landfills were reduced to a 2x2 block of garbage, never any less I could find.

Are you sure about the incinerator Cogeo or am I just misreading what you mean? I get the feeling that, especially after what you said, that the garbage lots that are filled correspond to the rate at which garbage is made in the city. Is this correct? So introducing an incinerator doesn't burn garbage there but reduces the rate? I'm not sure. I just know that my landfills are reduced to pretty much nothing (coinciding with this consolidation of garbage as you suggest) after bringing in a plant. Cheers, X

What else does the difficulity level change?

Wow. Here I was going all this time with only thinking it affected starting money. So I never gave the other ones that much thought. THink I'll play on hard from now on. Mostly for the less frequent advisors lol -
Are you using any mods or a more substantial number of plugins than before? I agree that the fact your system runs the game much slower is particularly odd. Going from 512 MB to 1 GB was quite noticeable for me, in that the number of plug ins didn't weigh it down as much. One thing that I noticed in terms of performance was when my Geforce FX 5500 was found to have a problem and I had to toss in my old ti4600. Moving around the city became slower and while zooming in/out rendering was naturally slower too. A silly question I know, but you didn't buy any conflicting/ non compatible RAM types did you? Bad memory I think would just cause crashing. Since they're both 512 try one stick then the other. If one is significantly better, or they behave differently you might have an idea on how to tackle the issue.

When I visited Vancouver they seemed to have a nice system as well. THey had lanes designated for commuters as well. ie People who carpool. I guess the deal was you had to ahve 3 or 4 people in the car to use these lanes? Or was two enough.

Yeah I've always wondered about that BRT line here in Calgary. Haven't had a reason to use it though. THis si a good question as it would be handy in the city I just started. Maybe some way to pick a bus station to forward on to one you designate. However this could be problematic if you want to connect to other lines... I moved from Halifax to Calgary 3 years ago as well spa I remember going to Dalhousie and living in Clayton park. The bus would take 30 minutes to get there (I could knock it down to 20 by hoping to hit a connection but I nearly always missed it). By foot it was an hour and by bicycle I could do it in 10-15. EDIT: Is there a way to make paragraphs without html? Everything gets run together for me.

Awesome work on these tutorials Rochefort. I've just started improving my gameplay through these tutorials and getting my hands dirty with STEX and the collector CD I'm pretty sure it was discussed in the Omnibus but I have a question which I haven't been able to dig up through search. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction/post? It involves terraforming with streets and roads. I'm getting used to using roads (Still need some practice to get the exact desired results) but I see a few people in pictures using roads. What does this do as opposed to streets? Anyways, thanks again for your wonderful tutorials Cheers, X

Isn''t there an underground section associated with the CN Tower? It''s been years since I''ve been to TO.
