Soo. I had some computer problems and had to restore my laptop to factory image..lost my roof texture but saved my model. I'll get some pictures of her in-game and take a last round of critique before decideing if its time to release. I say its come aways. DISASTER!!! My BAT didn't survive the file transfer.

These diners are going to look right at home next to Simgoobers Piggly wiggly and your Simtology testing building!

my downloaded buildings arent lighting up at night
jon7985 replied to MassDaGod's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Can anyone else confirm this, I use a Fixed.Exe so I don't have to have my CD in my laptop and I can't see the lights after the update either. Edit- Okay after reinstalling Simcity4 and the patches, I found that..........torr4 is absolutely correct. You have to use the cd to get the night fixtures to work on downloaded buildings. Sorry guys, no quick loads of SC4. So if this one is asked again, the second question that should be asked of them is if they're using the CD. -
Todd, this building will look right at home in my inner city residential areas, very Soviet Tenementy. If this is a low-wealth building..maybe there would be bits of debris on the roof too..

simmars-forum-threads Nuclear Power plant vs fusion power plant
jon7985 replied to gamenomad's topic in General Off-Topic
There are benefits to using Fisson reactors, namely the massive amount of heat created would assist in terraforming, dissipate that heat into the atmosphere. Not to mention Fusion dosen't yet work and may never work. -
Congrats on the Trixie madhatter106! As for the furniture, I'll be playing with that tomorrow, as well as....lighting!! Oh fun oh fun. The custom roof has been applied, as well as a shortening of the buildig, rebuilding of the AC ducts and a brand spanking new HVAC unit I created. Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming!

I've been adjusting the building with your suggestions and my own spin. The roof texture has turned into a custom roof texture i've done with Corel Paintshop Pro, I think you guys will be suprised, it made the longer building look good, We'll see if I shorten it or not. As for inside, we'll see what a window display looks like otherwise ...sheesh thats going to be fun, modeling furniture..

I told all those who voted for that jerk this would happen. Chicago mafia connections = corruption. (I mean... wow that an obvious statement. heh)Everyone shoulda voted for Jim Ryan I guess.

Now, he's joking, but it's actually an interesting point he makes. After all, guns don't kill people, bullets kill people. quote> Nah, people kill people. I have never been attacked by a box of ammunition sitting in my bedside drawer. A good question I have, does anyone think the DC or Chicago Handgun bans prevented any shootings? DC is full of crime, many shooting occur. tighter gun control does not affect somone who has no reguard for the law in the first place, it only affects the good citizen who complies with the laws. If they banned guns, I think there'd be more stabbings and blunt-object beatdowns, like in England.

I would probably message Simgoober about it.

Thanks for stopping by SimFox! I think I'll play around with it and see what it looks like with a sloping roof, that would actually fix some issues I've been pondering. As for the windows, I'm planning on putting up some hanging tool displays behind them, we'll see if that looks good, if it looks like crap, I'm sure I'll go wih a textured window. joint1: I totally agree with you and Gn_leugim, that roof texture has got to go. I'm going to play around with a photoshop program and 6459978's tutorial on how to create a non tiled texture. Not to mention add roof junk up there. As of now, its really barren and stands out like a sore thumb. Heres what I did, now I'm exhausted. Time to sleep. Roof junk added along with a sign. The sign will be moved forward probably and not so high, but I'm BATted out for now. That terrible roof texture needs to be wiped too. What do you guys think ? Oh that ducting actually is angled up the roof sections. I'll probably make it follow closer later. I think the roof junk makes the building look a bit shorter too.

Oh, yeah I know. LOL, I just saved that perspective view and then saw I accidentally had the lights positioned in the back so it was dark in the front. Heh. I'm definately going to change the roof texture, I'm just trying to figure out what to use.

Jacki, this is all amazing work, actually I just want to climb in and live there!

Okay work has progressed now, I've created the meat and potaties of a CS$ hardware store. Textures have been applied and probably will be changed before I'm near calling it done. Front View at day Front View at night Side with rolling door to rear of hardware store A day render.

I just finished Forever Free by Joe Haldeman, it is the sequel to The Forever War which wa an excellent read. If you enjoy sci-fi and drama its a a quick must read. Also i've dove back into the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, so...SimMars guys should maybe give it a look, it might pose some interesting ideas about life on Mars.

Here is the render. I think it looks crappy, maybe too small for the amount of detailing I'm killing myself to find solutions for problems that pop up when no one will even notice them.
-
Ebay would probably be the best place to find a copy of it, on the cheap too!

Tropico 2 wasn't that bad, but it was nowhere near the Quality on the 1st. VIVA EL PRESIDENTE!
-
Let me start Anik, by saying... EXCELLENT! This story and your cities are awesome, I've been reading them all night while BATting and chatting. Very, very captivating story. I only lament that I wasn't able to cast my vote for Predims! Why Predims you ask? Mysterious!!!
-
Thanks alot GNL, I'm just practicing and finding new ways to do things so I can crank out some real Quality stuff, thanks for your encouraging words! Updated Building, this is what I finished last night. I decided the store front in my picture was too lame so I used another storefront instead and this is what I've got so far. I'm very happy with it so far, what do you guys think? Of course the crazy colors will go away when I texture, I think I might pull back that green piece above the windows and door so it won't cover any of the door detail.

So, today I was driving around on an errand and I saw a Ace Hardware store occupying the bottom floor of a 3 story apartment building and my gear in my head started turning, thinking about the local hardware stores that used to dot the small towns of Illinois where I grew up, I thought, somone needs to compete. So my current BAT is a replica of a closed down middle-America Ace Hardware store. I guess I'll post a teaser (just a teaser!! Go easy) and the building that is my muse. Teaser, I had to learn how to fix disappearing sides when I cut the roof.((thank you Phillippbo)) Heres the old Hardware store that probaly holds nothing but mice and hooligans now.

BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
jon7985 replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Yeah the problem is fixed and Changing the transparency in the viewpoint customization was the issue, I guess some how it got shut off. I'm going to play with the Edit poly function, it sounds pretty useful. Thanks Vino
