I live near LA and have been there frequently and the things you see there have always inspired aspects of my city design. The problem is things are crazy irregular and downright peculiar in LA and many of the most interesting aspects of the city just cannot be created or would have to be compromised because of the limitations of SC4. But if you really wanted an impossible project it would have to be San Diego the lay out of the freeways there could not even be matched by SC4 in small areas. California has some out of control freeway networks that in every way demonstrate the limits of SC4 to recreate anything close. I would even go as far to say that making recreations of any city in SC4 is doomed to encounter compromises that ruin the integrity of the project. But if you wanted to one could capture the feel of a SoCal metro are in the game. The thing is that there are funny consequences to suburban sprawl on is that while many from the suburbs commute to areas in the city many in the city commute to the suburbs. One could balance it quite well if they were to try. The thing is that the game could make a balance fairly well if one were to create the right balance it wouldn't work like a so cal city but look like one. Achievement of the actual operation of a So Cal city in the Game is impossible. Also I would Say that the biggest problem in the game Vs. real life to achieve is the fact that LA has many people living around it that are Heirs, Celebrities, Trust Fund Babies and the Super Rich that have houses all over the Coastal Hills of this area that infact don't work in any of the areas in the city. So to create these wealthy neighborhoods would create the problem of them being more common than there being jobs in the game.

Is it better to build on a river or a coast?
absolute1 replied to Humpty's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
It depends on what kind of city do you want do you want. A coast line Resort town? A port city? A bustling industrial River town? Location gives identity to the city and decides how it will look. But I would never separate jobs from housing across a river sounds a little communist urban areas are usually more mixed between jobs and residential as one lives the urban fro the suburban they are usually shopping centers and buisness areas spread among residential developements -

that is a very buetiful coastline you have going there -
first really look into what you would define as British looking and then look for those qualities in buildings throughout the exchanges

Big Sprawling City Populations
absolute1 replied to shaylan221's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
lilshortjordan im sorry i wasn't very specific there is a bug where by which the game maxes out capacity of the opera house it bugs out this causes a simmilar effect as not having enough staff for say a hospital so that it saps demand for residential growth for me downloading the bug fix instantly stopped a problem by which i couldn't get some of my cities (those ones with opera houses) to grow past a population of 400,000 it is a flaw in the game and i really don't know the details but it worked -

first make sure you don't have any bugs especially the opera house one that really kills population growth improved education health, and safety help a lot use the industry quadrupuler or externalize industry and building parks and reward lots usually helps bring back up demand parks especially make lots of difference like the open grass tile and plazas and stuff -
I like by laws like that and especially appreciate that law in DC i think it gives cities the incentive to build dense urban atmospheres which is the essence that i love about European and Japanese cities and i think bigger is not always better and i think you have a pretty good looking downtown and nice looking capitol building that is given prevalence in the skyline as it should it the center of decision making for a whole country

I live in suburbs in so cal and have experienced sprawl probably more than any other place in the nation, i remember when i was little i would walk in my beloved santa monica mountains and there were many places to go and explore, and saw many beutiful areas a creek a wetland area and one of the best overlooks in the area be paved over and get houses built all over them, Just down the freeway from me i watched an area that had the most fertile soil in the United states be built over by more sprawl and now it hurts to remember how it was. My community has barely anything to do except go on a hike which at this rate there will be no nature to hike in anymore, or go to the beach which 6 months out of the year has 60 degree water and about the same air temp. So most people i know around here do all sorts of drugs and their parents do to, and everyone is crazy. People are rude, judgmental and nosy. The inefficiency is everywhere for me to go anywhere to do anything requires a drive at least 20 minutes long, and most commute out of my town long distances, a large amount of the low wage workers here have to commute in because it is nearly impossible to live here on a low income. Cities have budget problems because the middle class lives on the suburbs and spends their money there depriving cities of the income it is a very unbalanced system that gives little back to a large number of lower class citizens living in my great state.
