Future of SimCity Official Discussion Thread
cow replied to Compromise's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
i'm sure there will be a simcity 5, but like most people are saying, it won't see the light of day for a very long time. i am also in the boat that believes simcity 4 will not have any more official expansion packs which is really quite sad. i think this game (simcity 4) has many years of playtime left in it for us though. here's a wishlist of mine for simcity 4 anyway, just in case maxis is reading this. - a fix for the water texture bug - the ability to create animated props--imagine the possibilities we would have for this (take, for instance, the new MAPP (modular amusement park project) - a single region WITHOUT individual cities--imagine a gigantic metropolis with only a single power plant, water pump, airport, seaport, etc. i've always hated the neighbor idea in simcity when in fact you just want to make one mega city - better in game support for transportation types--the nam has brought to light many new types (pedestrian malls, ground light rail) however, they are still a bit clunky in functionality. if we want to make cities without roads, we should be able to. - for the love of god give us customizeable menus for our ploppable lots... one extra top level button on the left with infinate sub-menus so that we can make our own categories would be just fine. if my parks menu gets any longer i'll just die. - something i've wanted for a long time is paintable terrain. give us a god-mode tool that will allow us to paint desert, grass, snow, sand, rock, whatever--all in the same region. i know there are mods that can change the textures to be any one of these things but we should be able to have all of them. - a better lot editor tool. can we see the prop in the menu without having to click ok and hover it over the lot area first? can we remove the base texture without using the reader? can we modify anything like menu text, plop cost, monthly cost, wealth level, transit enabled properties? as it stands now, we can't do any of these things without extra tools provided by the community. normally i would say a game producer isn't obligated to provide tools like this to the community, but it is my belief that maxis depends on the community to fill in things that they left out. i think we can all agree that there isn't much to the original simcity 4 if you have no extra mods or lots installed. - lastly, what would be the coolest is if maxis released the source code so we could do some of these things ourselves (again, because i don't think maxis ever will). when id software released the source code for doom, look at how much stuff was developed for it. i think only good things could happen if they did this. of course, there's always the intelectual property problem and the fact that their main intent is to make money, not please their consumers. thoughts on all this stuff? -
Date: 10/10/2005 12:07:56 PM Author: Swamper77 Actually, the Home and End keys rotate the pieces. You use the Tab key to navigate forward through the pieces and Shift+Tab to navigate backwards through the pieces. Cow, the piece you saw in Jeronij's pic is the Straight OnSlope Road piece. The T-OnSlope piece is for if you want to have a T or + intersection next to the overpass. -Swamper77quote> thanks swamper and pjot, i figured it out. even though there are diagonal road-over-ground-highway and road-over-blank puzzle pieces, one thing that appears lacking in the nam is a diagonal on-slope road puzzle piece. therefore, i don't think it's possible to make a diagonal road overpass using this method. bummer if this is correct...

great work so far buddybud. you have made excellent progress and i can't wait until these are released! hopefully someone here can answer a question for me, and i figured this would be a good place to ask since you seem to know how to terraform pretty well. i asked jeronij this question in a PM, but i am still confused as to how to build overpasses (road over ground highway) like the one in this picture: i have all the necessary files (network addon mod, ground lifter lot, terrain slope mod, no bridge height mod), but i still cannot build a road over any type of network and have it be flat. it always turns out bumpy, just like it says will happen in the hole digging lot readme file. can someone please give a step by step process on how to accomplish this?

yes, you must upload those! they look fantastic! please let us know when they will be available for download buddybud!
