I would suggest purchasing SC4-Deluxe via a site like eBay, since the retail price has not yet dropped like the PC version has. There are several updates available from Aspyr.com, however, the Universal Binary Patch still has some problems, but makes the game faster. I currently don't use the UB patch on my parents iMac, but do on my old PowerBook. The omnibus, with patches and files originally posted only for the PC users, is available here: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=105&threadid=90777&enterthread=y TEG

You should be fine, but your problem is that it sounds like you are running the Vanilla version of SC4 Mac (which is rare in this day and age). Aspyr (the Mac Developers/porters of SC4) have issued patches for SC4, Rush Hour, and SC4eluxe, and a universal Binary patch, that seems to be hit-and-miss on its effectiveness. I would suggest either replacing your version of SC4 with SC4eluxe or purchasing the Windows version and running it either through Parallels/Fusion or Boot Camp. Once you do that, you will need some of the patches that are listed in the Mac Omnibus in this forum. You should be able to use all your old files, both regions/cities and buildings. You should then start getting involved with many of the plug-ins here, like NAM, RHW, etc. TEG

My parents bought an iMac recently, and I decided to try to use it to do some of the work on my cities, and even do some UDI. However, I'm getting very annoyed with some graphical problems I'm having in the game. The biggest is that all the route query lines are the wrong color. It is almost as though their RGB values are being read backwards. For example, cars, which are supposed to be green, are showing up magenta. Another problem is that at certain zoom levels, the graphics for a particular tile, or a series of similar tiles are wrong, like a single high-density commercial tile shows up as a blue diagonal rail piece. Also, all the effects for smoke or waves are very pixleated. I've already tried replacing the GraphicRules file, and it didn't help. I also updated the game with the universal patch when on my PowerBook. And, no, none of these problems occur on my PowerBook. TEG

I would suggest trying the Reconcile Edges button, in the God Menu, that should address the missing above ground connections.

Technically, GLR, El, and Subway are the same system. So there are many existing ways to transfer between each, including a connection between El and Subway included in the program. TEG

I just replaced the UB SC4eluxe on my parent's iMac and the graphics are much better, including fixing the color problems with routes. There are still some pixelation problems with smoke, clouds, and waves, but other things work just like on my PBG4 (which is running the UB version). The only problem is that the game itself runs much slower, likely due to Rosetta, but it is still faster than the PBG4. I will next experiment with the rendering of the graphics, software v. hardware. I also think I know why the colors have a problem on the UB version, it is likely that the colors are generated with HEX pairs, similarly to how colors are generated in HTML, but they had a 4th hex pair that indicates transparency, and for some reason, the endianness of the colors is wrong for the Intel machines, but still correct with the PPC machines. This is likely due to calling a library that was either pre-compiled or that was not updated properly. I'm going to try to compile list of known errors and try to discover their sources, so that hopefully Aspyr (or EA) can take the appropriate action. TEG

Where the streets have silly names
TEG24601 replied to Duke87's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Kind of reminds me of the story of two streets that intersect in North Portland, Oregon, they are Haight and Failing. It also doesn't help that Failing is a street that does not pass over or under I-5, but does exist on both sides. The street is connected however via a pedestrian bridge, aptly named the "Failing Pedestrian Bridge". I always crack up seeing that when I enter Portland. TEG -
If you have the Windows Version, use Fusion or Crossover Games (from Codeweavers). The Aspyr version works perfectly on the PPC Macs, but does have some problems on the Intel Macs, mainly dealing with graphics. TEG

There IS a universal binary update from Aspyr, although it is only in Beta. Just check out Aspyr.com TEG

It should work by just copying the region folder to your USERNAME/Documents/SimCity 4/Regions. Then simply selecting it from the Open Region dialog. Alternatively, you could create a new region with the same layout and import each city individually. TEG

Thanks Unityx - That seems to have helped with the graphics issues (since the iMac uses the 2600 HD Pro), and it seems to work fine, even though I am using the UB version of Deluxe. As for the route lines, I think it may be something with a NAM plugin I found reciently. I will double check to see if it occurs on my PowerBook (since I added the plugin but never used it on there) and see if it occurs there, if so, it should be a simple process of going back through my Temp folder to find the plugin I downloaded, then removing it. How Do You Take/Upload Pictures of Your Cities?
TEG24601 replied to Monk's Dream's topic in SC4 Mac Users
I always use Cmd+Shift+4, as I always play in a window. I then modify the image size in Photoshop, then upload them to my personal server, as it doesn't suffer the bandwidth restrictions of the free services. Also, simply use [ i m g ] http://urloffile.jpg [ / i m g ] to imbed your images into your post. TEG -
Actually, EA doesn't port games anymore, they just cheat and use Cider to allow for cross-platform releases. As for the version number, Mac and Windows version number have nothing to do with each other. It simply means that they were able to get a stable version of the software in a fewer number of builds. Aspyr is still working on some fixes, but they may never see the light of day as EA is trying to forget all the older Sim games, and Aspyr won't make any money on the updates. TEG

If you simply take the folder that comes out of the ZIP, and place that folder as is into the Plugins folder, everything should be fine. There are some advanced options, these are explained in detail in the Readme. TEG

Strange. I got Deluxe Edition, and all you had to do was drag and drop the folder from the DVD. Is it not just possible to replace the existing SC4 install with RH, then run it, it will ask for the SC4 CD, copy the required data, then run. TEG

The SNES Jr. was released shortly after the N64 hit the stores, because Nintendo continued to produce SNES titles while the N64 was just being released. Rather than remanufacturing SNES Jr.'s Controllers to just have the violet and lavender buttons, they used the multi-colored buttons that the rest of the world had and they tied better to the buttons on the N64. It was only available for a couple of months and in the end wasn't successful because people were buying the N64 instead. I'm still confused as to why Nintendo had to change the design of the SNES/Super Famicom for North America to take it from the soft shape they used in Japan and Europe to a sharp and pointy device they sent to the US and Canada. The NES2/AV was the top-loading NES that was released after the SNES was released. They redesigned the controllers to look like the SNES controller, made them top loading, and in some countries it had the AV port that was found on the SNES, N64, and GameCube, however in the US, they removed the RCA jacks and AV support, forcing everyone to use the RF-Adapters. I only remember seeing the NES2 advertised with Tetris 2 because it was the last game released for the NES and it was available for the SNES at the same time, and they showed both systems in the background. This is really no different than the PS2 (Thin), because the companies were able to tighten up the components and make the system smaller and seem fresher. It is too bad that they didn't do it for the N64. Then again the PS2 has lasted forever since the PS3 was released, far beyond anyone's estimates. TEG

The problem is likely due to Windows and SC4 not being able to utilize the extra cores of your processor, and perhaps SC4 not being put at the highest priority for CPU cycles. If you search around here, there are many solutions to increase the priority. I currently run SC4 on a PowerBook G4, running at 667Mhz with 1GB of RAM, and a 200MB plug-in folder and rarely get any real lag, my only real limitation is that I cannot use the UDR missions, and my system isn't fast enough to handle them. I may have to use it from time to time to fix some problems, then remove it to get the other desired effects. I am currently using the network specific hole digger lots, but they seem to work, but I may migrate to SA's lots soon. TEG

tahill79 - If you can suggest one that just evens out some of those on-slope pieces, but not everything else, I'd be grateful. But I've never been satisfied with any of the ones available. TEG

rail overpasses (see third post)
TEG24601 replied to JJC12321's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
The easiest way is to use the off-slope pieces at the edge of the highway, then the rail-over-highway puzzle piece. I've done it in several of my cities. TEG -

This likely happens when you have a puzzle piece and place it over a station. That is a bug, that to my knowledge, cannot be fixed. Your best solution is to get everything setup for the station, then place it. Read the NAM instructions, it explains this is detail. TEG

Tegville Metropolitan Region The Tegville Metropolitan Region is an integrated metropolitan area (similar to city-county municipalities) that allows for its member cities to maintain limited autonomy, with their own Mayors, Police Forces, and City Councils. However, Fire, Schools, and Health are managed by the Metro Government. The Metro Government consists of Grand Mayor and Metro Council (with one member per city, often the Mayor of that city). Geographically, Tegville Metro (as oposed to Tegville City) sits on the west coast of the United Tegian Republic, and consists of a number of islands and varring terrain, from plains to mesa to mountains. To the West is the Tiberian Ocean, to the south is the Frabrasian Sea, to the East is the Trillian Plains and a series of rivers that drain into the Garfield Sea, and to the North the Camaino Mountains. UPDATE! New images of Deception Pass Current City List - *Deception Pass, *Langley, Owosso, Monroe, Index, La Conner, Sharpes Corner, Anacortes, Bayview, Freeland, Clinton, Bush Point, Maxwelton, Abbotsford, Victoria, Burton, *Portland, Emersonia, Mt. Vernon, Burlington, Mt. Taylor, Puyallup, Huntington, Sumas, Picardton, Tegville, Fredona, Tigard, *Sequim I am and have added custom content to my cities, however, I am finding it hard to get many useable lots due to dependencies and them being locked inside of .exe files that cannot be broken down by FileJuicer, as I am build this Region on a 6 year old Mac (PowerBook G4) that chugs under the current load. I'd like to introduce you to the region with the City of Deception Pass. Deception Pass is a major geographic formation that connects the Frabrasian Ocean to the Garfield Sea. As a result of this formation, the area known as Fushal Island sits on the East side of the pass. Connecting the two sections of the city is the 3 piece Deception Pass Bridge System (modeled after the real life Deception Pass and Canoe Pass Bridges between Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island in Washington state). The Ewa neighborhood on the west side of the pass. A closeup of the bridge system, along with Strawberry, Hope, and Hood Islands. The Earlon neighborhood, just south of the Deception Pass Bridge System. I certainly hope that this has been an acceptable start to my first Journal. I look forward to comments and criticism.

Responses spore415 : Thanks, I keep trying something new with them as I go. I'm really waiting for RHW 3.0 to do some more things. Tegville Metropolitan Region The City of Deception Pass Part 2 I was messing around in Deception and wanted to share more of the city and some of the upgrades and changes I've made to the city. SR-63 running North to Burlington, along with the Monorail and Heavy Rail commuter systems. Erie University, named after nearby Mt. Erie, with nearby hi-rise apartments, and golf course for the professors. SR-12 and SR-63 meeting at the west side of the Deception Pass Bridges, and a more mature Earlon neighborhood. The Southern section of the Earlon neighborhood, along with details of SR-63 transitioning from Freeway to Avenue. The densley populated Nimoy neighborhood, along with the Breaching Orca Casino. The mix-use Doohan neighborhood with SR-65 and a Tower Records outlet. SR-654 as it skirts across the Southeast corner of Deception Pass, passing Strawberry Lake and connecting Sequim to Langley. Several years of work went into the extension of the SR-63 freeway Northward, and the reconfiguring of many zones and interchanges along the route, including the building a new avenue from SR-63 to the Dan Lewis Tunnel under the pass, to accommodate the increased traffic to the neighborhood and allow traffic using the tunnel to have the benefit of being separated, to a degree, from local traffic. The newly sunken SR-12 as it shoots to the West. Minor changes in the Nimoy neighborhood, but a new hospital, park, and the rebuilding of the approach to the ferry terminal, and placement of subway stations in strategic locations, including on the pedestrian malls. A new Central Library and some urban renewal by some new parks, changing of zones, and street upgrades. Upgraded Earlon Interchange, with the newly sunken SR-12. More detail on the new tunnel connector (CONN-SR-65). New development along the North Shore, much of it spurred by the new subway stations in the area. Mortonson Park a central gathering place for residents.
