  1. SimCity 2013 is the best thing that could have happened for CitiesXL; Just got Platinum and am loving it (after lag fix)!

  2. I was doing some trolling on Origin earlier and came across a listing for the SimCity Upgrade Pack that will presumably be available at launch. It appears to add all the building sets, transportation modes, services, and missions from the deluxe edition. As rumoured, the price is $20 and "Requires SimCity Limited Edition to play". The platform is still listed as 'none' for the upgrade. There is a screenshot attached in case the link goes down. -personally I'm glad I will be able to get this content since I will be buying a hard copy of SimTown when its released.
  3. Where would you rather go?

No love for Ottawa? I'd scratch off Winnipeg too. I heard Kingston Ontario is a lot like Victoria minus the coastal climate. Ottawa is neat because its the capital and its so far North. The Winterlude festival is great and you can skate the canal all day and still not see it all.
  4. When you click show more at the store page for the upgrade pack it says the deluxe edition has more missions and achievements, and a new police building/service (but i guess this is counted as part of the French set).
  5. Enjoyed the gameplay of Simcity Beta, a refreshing take on the series.

but still not impressed with online requirement...

  6. After playing twice now, I can say that I am really excited for the full game. Like others, I am still lightly concerned over the online/server issues but I agree with a lot of what what said already (remember diablo 3). I have absolutely zero intention on playing in a multiplayer region. I like the new way of delivering services, it is slightly more realistic in my opinion. It would have been nice to have some more transportation options though. I do think that getting to high density will create a bit of challenge with the budget while trying to balance all the services/taxes. The way glassbox displays data is really neat and an improvement over earlier sim cities. I also think this game doesn't have the same goal as what sim city 4 has evolved into. Over time there will no doubt be expansions/dlc with piles of new buildings and I really hope its opened up to modding as well. In terms of performance: I maxed out the settings with AA on and it ran smooth as butter and looked great. The texture settings were on medium when I started and it looked a bit funny until I maxed it. My cpu wasn't even breaking a sweat. I'm pretty sure that even with higher density it could handle a much larger map. F.y.i specs are Windows 8, ivy bridge i5, 8gb 1600mhz DDR3, and sapphire 7870 OC running at 2048x1152.
  7. I have NOT pre-ordered Sim City (2013); waiting for EA to address community's concerns.

I don't think I would ever pre-oder a game no matter how good it is. Just a marketing gimmick.

I agree, things like the maxis-live footage seem to indicate that they're trying to go in the right direction. As a general rule I also wait to read reviews before buying games, pre-ordering gives developers an excuse to ship half baked sauce.

  8. SimCity: Gameplay

I'm much surprized that I haven’t read more about whether mixed-use zonings and buildings will be included or not. More and more real cities are starting to realize the importance of this for healthy urban settings.
  9. As one of the 99%+ and a five-year lurker of this site, I am saddened that this issue has forced me out from under my bridge and to finally make a forum post. I remember reading somewhere that EA will allow solo player regions, why would they not make this the default offline play option? I have owned every Sim City for PC and most for other platforms and if the online requirement sticks around until release date this may be the first PC sim city I don't buy. OCCUPY EA (not actually, but you get my point) - make games for the 99%, not the 1%...
