  1. Winchester

I love the whole "city as a dynamic process" thing. It's good that the former Winchester Mall was redeveloped, rather than just left to decay.
  2. Cities United (COFR)

    1. Well among others, the Palm Jumeirah, the Burj Dubai, and the half-grass, half-clay tennis court Nadal and Federer duelled on semi-recently. 2. Complementary angles? 3. Never played it 4. Never played that one, either 5. Porsche GT1; it's a car designed for racing, that is still street legal (Straßenversion) 6. The Autobahn in Germany; a great place for your GT1 7. I'm gonna say Lo and Lu. 8. Main character is Steve, villain is Wankao? 9. I hate SCS, so I'll say City Life. 10. Stewie, though he used to be a lot funnier. 11. This might only work with hares, but if you introduce it to green or brown grass as opposed to snow, it could turn brown. 12. No idea. 13. 2004: Athens, Greece, 2008: Beijing, China. 14. Wind power, since farms generally lie on flat lands that get a lot of wind, and wind turbines take up less surface area than solar panels to power an entire farm, which leaves more land for crops. 15. Something in Ancient Greece; to train soldiers? 16. Mirror writing; he wrote everything backwards.
  3. Guess That City- European Version

    I'm gonna say Wroclaw.
  4. Pack O Unreleased Booty

A treasure trove of commieblocks! You're the master of depression, Glenni!

  6. Building Style Control

There is a mod to block all Maxis buildings, but usually you have to make every building you want to keep historical.
  7. Tierra de la Oscuridad

7 houses like that in a row? In Alberta we've got hundreds of 'em! It's eerie. Great building variation, though! I've never even seen some of those...
  8. Destiny

All right! I like what I see.
  9. Ooh, boy. Keep in mind that the following is all constructive: You have way too many Maxis buildings. I see that you've downloaded some custom buildings for downtown, but the rest of your city has massive repetition. That one blue-tinted office building appears 17 times. Midrises (residential and commercial) are your friend on this one: you need a gradual transition from downtown to suburbia. Some custom residentials would also be good. Try zoning in certain areas such that mansions stay out; neighbourhoods need to be cohesive and you've got shacks next to palaces. And for realism's sake, add some avenues east/west (or north/south) since all your avenues go in one direction, and sims can't really get across town the other way. BUT, you've done very well to get this city together and to post it; and I like that you're asking for advice. With some slight tweaks, you'll have a five star CJ in no time! Keep it up.
  10. Simtropolis Beta Key Giveaway!

Yes, definitely SEARCH. And remember, each codeword can be used by more than one user.
  11. Simtropolis Beta Key Giveaway!

Well, I think it would be posted by Dirk, with him clearly stating it's a codeword. The post for "junebug" is on page 4 of the Disasters thread in Cities XL discussion, it's posted by Dirk with him saying "Junebug is a CODEWORD." He makes it pretty clear.

You have my eternal gratitude! Edit: In response to some posts, this site is STILL WORKING, so get on over there (it's in German)!
  13. Simtropolis Beta Key Giveaway!

Yeah, open beta would have been nice given all the people interested. Still though, look at all the lurkers! This really has got people excited.
  14. Well, a revitalized city in decline is still in decline. One thing PIttsburgh does have is a low crime rate, when compared to a city of similar size. While it hasn't slowed the decline process, the city would at least be more attractive to business. As for land being needed for future growth, it can still be bought and sold. Hopefully the city sell it to an agricultural developer (as opposed to just giving it away), or they could retain ownership if it was turned into a greenbelt. Besides, as Jason mentioned, Detroit sprawls like crazy, and higher density development could also be a potential solution to a problem that is still highly unlikely to occur (Detroit not having enough land for its growth rate).
  15. Nofunk's BAT Thread

I would say the roof junk looks good; maybe add some pipes but otherwise fine. The rest of the building is already a masterpiece.
  16. But, with shrinking cities, there's no development happening anyway. The land that is razed won't necessarily be closed down forever, but I don't see exponential growth in Flint anytime soon. As for the Philly/Baltimore/Detroit comments, you're right. This can't be employed in such a huge city, at least not yet. First, it needs to be tested out in a place like Flint or Youngstown before it can be employed on a larger scale. For any city with a blighted core and affluent suburbs, the core would have to be revitalized first, which would be helped by a falling demand for single family homes. Downtown areas in many cities are being revitalized, with some great successes. The problem is, none of this is happening in cities that are so blighted as Detroit.
  17. I suppose it really depends on the context. Vacant lots in Detroit are overgrown with crabgrass, and are in the middle of the city, occupying the same block as existing houses (that may or may not themselves be occupied), which gives a real ramshackle look. If a place like Flint shrinks itself it could potentially use the vacant land for civic green space. Since no government wants to maintain that much land, other vacant areas could be replaced with forests or farms.
  18. SPAs Urbanist BAT Thread

Oh, that one really will be great as a BAT. Congratulations to the groom!
  19. NHL 09 offseason talk

I wish. The NHL doesn't like to do things that make sense, though...
  20. NHL 09 offseason talk

Ah yes, I didn't see that update. I'm still astonished there are buyers who think a team in Phoenix is a good idea.
  21. NHL 09 offseason talk

Let's go (Hamilton) Tigers! It's not likely to happen, since the only thing Bettman hates more than Canadian teams is Jim Balsillie, but a guy can dream!
  22. economic turnout:

I think it's bottomed out; we're already seeing signs of recovery. However, the recovery will be slow, time consuming, and won't get back to pre-crash levels for years. However, we might be able to stop using the word 'recession' at some point later in 2010.
  23. Agreed. What was the logic behind making such a cartoonishly failuresome game?
  24. Well, he did say that they would have to overcome a cultural mindset that's in place. The city will still require improvements and growth or at least stagnation would be preferable, however a more vibrant, less depressing city would mean less young people leaving, and subsequently less abandonment, hopefully. Besides, the bottom line is: a field is a lot better than a gutted building being used as a crackhouse.
