  1. Show off your street level/detail shots. I think that this is one of the areas that this game really shines. This is another shot from my in progress Los Angeles recreation. This one is from Culver City with the I-10 heading west toward Santa Monica.
  2. Whenever I place the freight train station, my screen goes black for 2-3 seconds and the display driver reloads. Cities Skylines comes back with a white screen. The simulation continues as I can hear it but the window is white. I have disabled all mods and custom content and this still occurs. Has anyone else had this issue?
  3. And with that it's resolved. Found a similar issue posted on the CS subreddit. Adding the -force-d3d9 launch option seems to have resolved it for now.
  4. Show us your Area view

Early stages of my Los Angeles recreation.
  5. City of EDMONTON

It may be because the thread is 10 years old... There hasn't even been a reply for five years.
  6. Twice in NAM

One of those locations says that it's in a Roaming Profile. Are you in a computer environment that uses a Server like Windows Server 2003/2008? Sounds like you may have installed it on the computer and again linked to your specific account.
  7. Columbus Ohio

Welcome to my CJ which will follow the recreation of my hometown and the capital of Ohio. This is my first ever city journal of a real city, and I have been planning it for a year now. This is about the 6th attempt that I have made at this city, but I have changed some things up and learned a few things which should help me greatly and make this attempt a success. Note that this will not be a street for street replica of the city, but more of an attempt to capture the feel of the cityscape. I have tried a street for street replica twice, but the mechanics of the game just will not let me. I will include all major roads and position every neighborhood correctly and make all effort to make each and every neighborhood resemble it's real counterpart, but the smaller neighborhood streets will not always be correct! Here is a Live Search Map or the Columbus Area. http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=39.964885~-82.996173&style=a&lvl=15&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=38614887&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1 I have basically competed the layout for the downtown area and hope to be spreading out soon to German Village and the South Side, Near East Side, Short North, Franklinton and The Bottoms neighborhood. It may be a long while before you see any development, I wan't to get a majority of the roads laid down. 8. Columbus Ohio

Replies Zulu2065 - I know, I just like my way better nathanthemayor - Thanks. In-game shots will be coming soon. Benedict - Thanks! sloppy 192 - Thanks, I am loving how the suburban networks are looking. I'm hoping I get nominated for a Trixie for them. SmartbyLaw - Lincoln Villige/Westland.....it's coming sometime soon, although it's not on my high priorities list. I'm still working on Dublin, moving across the north through Worthington and Westerville. The west side will probably be the last area I'll lay out.
  9. Columbus Ohio

I stitch a bunch of Google Maps screenshots together, resize to +-70%, and trace the roads in MS paint. I then run SC4 in windowed mode, and use the 8-bit map as a reference for the lengths and position of the roads.
  10. Columbus Ohio

Hmm, so did you all think I forgot about this? Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. So maybe I haven't been building in the game recently, but I have been working on my 8-bit reference map.

  12. Leave CD in computer?

I know that I leave CD's in my drive until I need to use a different program, but I also have a drive that acts up. It spins up whenever I browse through My Computer, and there is a considerable burn mark on the CD's that I leave in my drive for extended periods of time. But from what I've seen, it hasn't affected gameplay.
  13. Recreating real cities

Have you tried something like Kansas City or Omaha? Mostly grid, fairly good sized cities. I will have to share my tricks for creating real city transportation networks. Very clever and useful, would likely help a lot of people.
  14. Columbus Ohio

I don't understand your question. I am using one way roads. If you meant that I'm not using the RHW, that's because the classic NAM roads are much more flexible, even if it's a little less "aesthetically pleasing".
  15. Columbus Ohio

NMUSpidey - Thanks! Yeah, it WAS some good progress. Unfortunately I got a virus and had to revert to a previous backup and lost pretty much all of my Worthington area. tonyr - We,, at least as interesting as a suburb can be lol. Thanks for viewing. zcg4755 - Yeah, I also love recreations. They aren't done nearly enough as they should either. x493x - Thanks! Benedict - Thanks! Yes, that interchange was quite the challenge, but it's fun when you can recreate something challenging and have it be almost exactly the same as the real life counterpart. I've been busy lately with school and work. Worked 52 hours last week and decided I'm going to take a few days off lol. So I decided to get back to this and take on an interchange that has been challenging me for years. Turns out that I got it done in under two hours. This is the I-270/I-670/US-62 interchange near Gahanna. Link to the aerial of the real interchange: http://goo.gl/maps/M8aB I only had to leave out one of the ramps.
  16. What's on my mind? What a great and mysterious question that is...

  17. Sprawl, friend or foe ?

I may live in the suburbs, but it definitely wasn't my choice. When I get enough money, I know where I'm moving
  18. Show us Your Interchanges!

I've tried the RHW Mod. It's nice and definitely looks better, but it's not as easy to work with. Plus it's hard to build anything other than 45 and 90 degree roads, which is a major disadvantage when doing a recreation.
  19. Show us Your Interchanges!

I posted this in my Columbus CJ, but I figure I should post it here too.
  20. Columbus Ohio

That was quick lol. Yep it's up near Worthington. I actually work not too far from there, up on Campus View Blvd.
  21. Columbus Ohio

Replies: malibu_man: Thanks! It's come even further. I have Reynoldsburg's roads all laid out. kakado_to_save: Interesting connection there lol. Thanks Benedict: Yep. It's coming along nice and slowly lol. Here ya go. Maybe the greatest interchange ever made for SC4 Bonus points to whoever can figure out which interchange this is.
  22. Lower manhattan done

Nice! I like how realistic the road map is.
  23. The different looks of NYC

Ouch, that doesn't sound good. That's why I never mess with my plugins folder unless I need to. It may be a jumbled mess, but it works lol. Whatever the problem is, I hope you are able to fix it and get back to this great project,
  24. Sprawl, friend or foe ?

I don't see many advantages to sprawl. Sprawl uses up more land than necessary, it makes us car dependent which costs us money, uses up resources and creates pollution, and wastes our time because of nonsense road planning. And another consequence of sprawl that nobody thinks about is that sprawl gives businesses too much control. When sprawl happens, businesses move from their current locations to the sprawl, which leaves whole commercial complexes abandoned, which then affects the local economy and creates suburban ghettos. It's similar to what happened with the White Flight of the 50's and 60's. I think that instead of creating more sprawl, we should be encouraging infill and gentification in rundown urban areas. These areas have tons of potential, already existing transportation networks and services, and are closer to more amenities.
  25. Recreation: San Diego County

As a fellow builder that is also recreating my own home town, I wish you the best of luck. All I can say is that even the best planning in the world will not save you from getting frustrated and wanting to give up, but if you keep working at it, you will create a great city.
