  1. Best one I've found is "Cousin Vinnie" at the STEX. Gives ya 200,000 per month and if yer money gits ta be too much then jes' turn off the ordinance fer awhile.

Trackage was laid because of interest by those on the right of way. If the amount of interest wasn't great then single trackage was laid. If it could be shown to the RR companies that revenue was going to be very large then (and if population warrented) they might lay double trackage from the start. Elsewise, if the pop grew to the requisite figures then single might well be ripped and double trackage laid down. It's ALL money; if the money is there the RRs will come. Heh heh!

I wouldn't, at least as a $%&^! sort, put in the mods which give gazillions right at the start of the game. Later, if you just want to build bootyful cities then pick up one of those. The Vinnie mod, if you just go on and play the game, will be quite enough to do a LOT of mapping, fixing and just general dinking around in your city. Vinnie, by the way, is not activated until there's a city started and then you go into the Budget, Ordinances to set. As for the clueless who prate about not using "cheats", I tell 'em this: I bought my copy, it's MY game and I'll play the way I want. Nobody else has to like it, nobody else sees it and NOBODY ELSE has any right to tell me what I should or shouldn't do. 'Nuff said! As a side issue: Since SimCity official website Exchange requires use of Internet Explorer I can't pick up the $4 million lot which is on that site. Could someone who has it please email it to me? PM me if you have it and can email it. Thanks.
  4. Plug-in management and organization

Not all that far-fetched. I have at least one other game which has just that capability. In addition to the "official" system there have been two other highly successful efforts by members of the communities. The largest problem(s) is/are that the STEX doesn't have the official capacity to designate the dependencies nor does it always have those same deps. Anyone working on the system would have to have an "entree" given by the STEX maintainers so that the structure and system can be fully understood. I really do hope it happens.
  5. Cheat Research

What does Assert do? Asserts itself? Whoa! Is this new editor 100% tested?quote> Some languages have an "Assert" in them. It's sort of like a breakpoint or a branching code. If the "Assertion" works then one path is taken and if it doesn't then a different path is used. It's also used to "prove" a logic system. One "Asserts" an item and if the item is true then the programmer knows that that bit of code is working correctly. (Note to self; Egad, this is a horrible description but the best I could do without my lang book around!)
  6. Originally posted by: anandus Has anyone played the demo? Is it any good?quote> Hmmm, well, I DLed the demo yesterday (biiiig file) and played for awhile. Works for me, me friends. The only problem I ran into is that the demo is entirely in French. Since I don't speak French I thought it a pretty good test of playability and of game mechanics. I give it 8 out of 10 for those characteristics. I'll be watching for it to come out in english (I hope) so's I can plunk my $$ down. Edit: Wasn't sure this would work as it's been a couple days. I picked up a file which translated a goodly amount of the game into english. I will definitely be looking for this to be available. As I've said elsewhere, this is a game and should be thought of and contemplated as such. It's more akin to Transport Giant or Transport Tycoon but without the emphasis on the transport empire. It's playable in its own right.

He doesn't remember anything like this. I've removed everything from my Plugins folder but the menu still shows the items I had in it. I remember reading a post somewhere that talked about just this problem but I can NOT remember where I read it. Frustrating as all get out. I REALLY don't want to re-install but I may have to just to fix things.

It might have been over there that I found what I'm looking for.

If you look at the original response you'll see that what was called into question was my own ability to discern whether "I'd deleted all the files, make sure there are no remnants of the DLed files". Since there is nothing there responding to the question I asked I "called it as I saw it." Moreover, I made sure that I preceded my response with a caveat exactly so that my resp would be taken to be frustration, not a polemic against the orig poster. YMMV, but then you aren't having the problem I am.

I saw, somewhere on the forum, a or maybe several references to a Sim-compiled file which holds the references to the currently installed plug-ins. One can delete this file which will then be recreated by the Sim prog. The problem is I don't remember what the name of the file is nor do I know WHERE it is. - - As a side note: does anyone know how I can get the msg system to stop removing line breaks? As all can see I'm currently using a dash as a line beginning to confuse the dang system. -
  11. Hmmm, I give! I've looked all over but can't find a posting I once read about deleting some file so that the game would "reset" the menus. I've put in some DLed stuff and then deleted it but there are a bunch of blank spaces in the menus. I KNOW I saw a posting somewhere but do you think I could find it? ??? NO way, Jose! - Any help, please? ??? -
  12. Must Have

I was thinking of this, the thing is, is it updated? ie if a new version of the bat is out or a new version of a mod is out will it have the new one now? or is it the old version?quote> I'm not sure...it would take a lot of work to update everything on the cd that has been updated on the STEX...does it get updated? (I don't have one...and don't really need one so I wouldn't know)quote>

Now there's a real architectural disaster. It all goes to; re: a/several post regarding the state of architecture in the world today. No one seems able to point out to these people that a unified whole which is well thought out is much more pleasing to the eye. Some of the finest examples are the European cities older sections where the city fathers had the guts to say, "If you want to build then make it look a little like it's neighbors!" This new attitude doesn't confine itself to architecture; modern art and modern music come readily to mind. It would really be nice to see civic BEAUTY come to the fore again.
  14. City Section of STEX

Hmmmm, just as a parenthetical aside, what does one do with cities one has DLed? I have several but can't find anywhere that tells how to use them.
  15. Just Passing Through - A Rochefort Tutorial

Yes indeed, that was a great help. I'm thinkin' I just didn't ever go far enough to get a tunnel; additionally, I'm thinkin' that your system works just BECAUSE you start so close to the beginning of the tunnel. I was trying to run a road most of the way across the city tile. Just didn't work right.
