I just started playing the game again after a long break. The ingame wind power have always bugged me for some reason and this time I decided to do something about it. I had a look at real manufacturers homepages to see what the actual stats of wind mills are today and got quite surprised at how big they are. The model I decided to make after looking through a few models was a german version called REpower 5M. It's 120m high with a wing diameter of 126m making it a total of about 180m high with 1 wing pointing upward. This mill have a poweroutput of 5 MW, hence it's name, under decent windconditions (reaches maximum at 10m/s and has an emergency shutdown at 25m/s). After batting for a while I decided to make 4 different versions of it: A seabased 5M mill with higher output due to windconditions and a much higher plopcost. A landbased M5 mill. A landbased M3 mill that is 25% smaller then the 5M and a poweroutput of 3 MW. A landbased M1 mill that is 50% smaller then the 5M and a poweroutput of 1 MW. These are 2 ingame pictures of my first draft. It's rendered at draft quality and there are no textures yet, but it will give you an idea. These are the two 5M mills, one on land and the other one in water. The small mill in the midle is the maxis original mill btw. http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/5606/bayviewjan6001210598323aj6.png http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/1831/bayviewjan6001210598383at0.png

A friend from ITC asked a member of the BSC team if they could animate it, but they said that the last animation they made took a moth to complete so they're not gonna do any more

Have started on another powerplant, this time it's wave power and it's a very simple bat. The model I'll be using can be found on http://www.pelamiswave.com I know it's ugly, but I didn't design the original so don't blame me. it will be 140m long and 4 meters wide and will have an output of 160MW at a very low monthly cost.

The finished product have been posted on STEX. All 4 turbines have been remodeled to look like authentic turbines and a blinking red light have been added to all of them. Thanks for the input guys. This is the last time I'm using Gmax btw. Going to instal 3ds max asap and use that in the future.

My first upload to the STEX. 4 different wind turbines made from pictures and stats from REPowers homepage. M5 offshore: 10000 simoleons to plop, 270 simoleons in monthly upkeep, 1500MW M5 onshore: 8000 simoleons to plop, 210 simoleons in monthly upkeep, 1300MW MM92: 4000 simoleons to plop, 160 simoleons in monthly upkeep, 800MW MM70: 1000 simoleons to plop, 65 simoleons in monthly upkeep, 300MW They might seem too large, but they're made from stats by real turbines and the sizes are actually realistic. No dependicies Use Marrast's underwater cable kit to lead the power to shore. https://www.simtropolis.com/STEX/index.cfm?id=16789 I uploaded the wrong version at first, thank you Phoenixx86 for pointing this out. If you want to have the possibility to plop the offshore turbine in water as intended you need to redownload and replace the old version with the one in the current upload. Sorry about that, hopefully all the lots work as they're supposed to now. -
marrast allready made those cables https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?p=results

About 90% done with the remodeling of the offshore turbine

ok, here's a picture on the 4 models ingame (the 5th one is the maxis original) and also the link that I promised. gonna play around a bit with nightlights to get the red light up top to shine, when I get some progress on that I'll remodel the 2 5M turbines and release them on the STEX. if you encounter any problems with the lots or have any suggestions please let me know so I can fix it.
-
Screenshots of the offshore turbine as it looks right now. I had allready rendered it when I saw the pictures sstyrnol posted so this is what the beta version will look like. I will remake it according to the pictures after I've tested them. I will also install nightlights on it (I don't know how to do that yet since I haven't gotten that far in he tutorial ) Anyways, 5 screenshots from different angels and at various depths. If there are no objections I will upload the beta versions tonight and post a link to where it can be downloaded.

That's a helipad up top? lol, I thought it was just a walkway so the wings could be inspected. I made mine with a platform where boats can dock instead since I couldn't figure out how REpower serviced theirs and I saw that Scanwind used that on their tubines.
-
Thanks for the tip Gn_leugim, this is my first bat so I'm trying my best. This is what the seabased 5M will look like, many of the details are lost though
-
there will actually be 3 different sizes on them. The 3M is 85m to the hub and the small one 60m. They're not animated however, how do I do that? Stats: maxis 500 plopcost 50/month 200MW don't know 1M 1500 plopcost 80/month 400MW 60m high 3M 4000 plopcost 150/month 1000MW 85m high 5M land 8000 plopcost 225/month 1800MW 120m high 5M sea 12000 plopcost 250/month 2500MW 120m high, but submerged 20m I will probarbly make the turbines as props and use a transparent building on the lot. Otherwise the largest turbine will require a 7x2 lot and you can't build anything underneath like farmland, roads or parks. By making them as props I can put them on 1x1 lots.

Originally posted by: Duke87 Ultimately, the important thing is that we properly label religion as religion, and science as science, and never try to force one upon the other, since the fact is they simply don't mix. You can choose to try to understand things through god or through science, but you can't have it both ways. It's one or the other. No matter what, both can't be right.quote> Very good post overall Duke, but the above statement is not correct in my belif. We know that the bible use a lot of analogies and that a lot of it is not supposed to be taken by literally. Most christian belivers, priests and even the pope agrees with that. What I can't understand is why christian belivers don't embrace science and work alongside with it. What is the big bang? Have anyone been able to make a working theory of this? No. Who can say that god did not cause it? Noone. And who could say that god have the same timeframes as us? Maybe he's on his 7th day and resting as we speak, that would help to explain a lot of things going on in the world. Why do christians insist on taking the part of creation literally when much of the rest isn't? Why don't they take help from science to explain creation? I think religion would be taken more seriously if they did.

this idea have been posted before in some form or another. one-way multi lanes: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=124&threadid=88167 avenues: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=124&threadid=79817 highways: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=124&threadid=86988 https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=47&threadid=85529 I think the best and most realistic way to make those multilanes today is to just make several of them beside eachother. Instead of making 1 2-lane one-way road make 2 and get a 4-lane one-way road. Put one-way roads on each side of your avenues to get an avenue twice as wide. There's also a tutorial on how to make multi lane highways made by Lakeyboy that can be downloaded at https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4268 or at https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4267 these are excellent and work really nice. I've even made some 12-lane highways that way, it's costly but it looks cool. and samuelzrp, I've had several congested highways in larger regions with huge city centers containing a majority of the jobs. If you want to present this idea now you do it at https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=124&threadid=55264 I think it would be a good idea to do this, but there are some issues with it. First of all you have to make them ploppable since you can't make them draggable and then you need to make them compatible with all other transport systems out there. One top of that you need to find someone experienced enough to do the batting/modding for all these lots and with that done you need to find a few ppl to test it and make sure it works as intended. When all this is done and working you can send it to the nam ppl and have them incorporate it in the next issue and if you only get part of it done you can post it at https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=124&threadid=55264 and hope to get some help with the rest. I'm not trying to shoot down your idea, I'm just saying it's a lot of work. That last link is great to check what's beeing worked on and to see what might come in the next NAM btw.

I could consider using them as an eyecandy transport system in a modular amusementpark/zoo, but that's about it. -

Just found these: I'm not sure what it is, but it looks soo cool. More info can be found at http://www.yuhisa.com/cgi/c-board/c-board.cgi?cmd=one;no=102;id= and http://kamurai.sakura.ne.jp/editbbs/lev-bbs.cgi?bid=SC4=&skin=skin/config/=/editbbs/skin/config/&style=0 If someone who's able to read japanese could post a little info about this I'd be very happy. A downloadable zip with the lots/models can be found in the 1st link. EDIT: Found some more of whatever it is to download this part go to http://www.yuhisa.com/cgi/c-board/c-board.cgi?cmd=one;no=103;id= Don't know if both parts are needed or what they do. I suspect it's only eyecandy. -
One of the areas where I think state control is vital is education. It's ok to have private schools too, but you should have the possibility to get an equal education even if you can't afford to pay the fees. I see education as a necessity for a working democracy. If people are not aduquatly educated they can't make an educated choise when they vote. That means they will vote for whoever is more charismatic and politics have very little to do with charisma in my opinion. As for health care I think either system works, but I think all people should have rights to get treated equally. I see healthcare and education as basic human rights and something that should be available to anyone regardless of income or social status.
-
What you get payed is actually controlled by demand and supply too. Apparently Wal-mart can find employees is such abundunment that they don't need to pay them any more. If Wal-mart had a problem getting staff they would be forced to increase their salaries or shut the stores. It's the free market at work! If people want to get payed more they need to get off their lazy behinds and get an education to give them a higher demand at the workmarket. What's wrong with pushing people to get more competence?

Neither system works on it's own if driven to it's point. You need a healthy mix of the 2. Private healthcare works for those that have an income. But, there are those who can't work and that's essentially those who need the health care most. They too must have a right to be treated. I would also like to see a country who privatise their monatary institutions, their army etc. It wouldn't work. Socialism driven to it's point doesn't work either simply because it's not in our nature to be content making the exact same money as everyone els. Our driving goal is to make money, without that goal a lot of people would simply stop working and the whole system would break apart.

I'll make one post about what I think about various religions and I'll probarbly never go back to this thread again as I'm sure I'll get flamed with stuff that I consider to be BS and I'll get all aggrivated. I think people throughout history have needed to belive in something in order to explain certain things that is or was onconcivable to them. For instance, in early nordic belives we belived thunder and lightning was caused by Thor driving a chariot across the sky. We know today this is not the case, thunder and lightning is caused by differance in electical charges and it's explainable. During the medieval times people thought sickness was gods way of punnishing sinners. Today we know it's caused by becteria and viruses and that it got no relevance if you're a good or bad person or what you belive in. Life after death or the creation of earth are still somewhat debatable issues and therefor we exlain this by simply saying it's gods work, whatever god we might belive in. In a thousand years from now I'm sure we'll know the answers to this aswell and we might even have gotten so far that we can create life on our own and revive the dead. However, I'm sure we'll have other issues to debate at that time and I don't think we'll ever be able to explain everything or we might even prove that there really is a god in the end, who knows. Most religious books are in my oppinion created with common sence and conveniance in mind. The best example of this (in my oppinon still) is the Koran and Muhammeds words. Muhammed saw that people got sick and died after eating pig (this is caused by bacteria and not gods wrath btw) and his conclusion and solution was that pigs are dirty and may not be eaten. Many wars were fought in the middle east at this time and a large portion of the male population died at an early age while the women grew old in large numbers. Mohammeds sollution, let men take more then one wife as long as they're able to provide for them, a very pratical sollution to make sure women who at this time had to care for the kids and therefor could not work were taken care of. Prayer 5 times a day, once to wake people up, once to tell them it's time to get to work, once to announce mid day break, once to end mid day break and finally once to let people know they're done working for the day. These are all, in my oppinion, sensible sollutions to problems they experienced at this time and to say it was the word of god and you risked eternal damnation if you didn't obey it was a very efficient way to make people obey. I want to point out that I'm not ripping on Islam here, I belive all religions where formed for these reasons, to explain what people couldn't and to make people follow a law. Today we're in a different situation. If something can't be explained we say it's because we haven't figured it out yet and if we don't obey the law we go to prison. I don't think humanity needs religion anymore, but we hold on to it partly because of traditions and partly because we want to belive that if we're good people we go to a wonderful place after we die and all the bad people will suffer forever. Some nations across the world also still use religion to keep their population in control. They keep a litracy level on a minimum and don't allow people to hear or read news that are unfavorable to them. In those cases religion is about money and power and maybe we should thank god (or sattelite dishes and globalism) so few countries get away with it today.
