Looks like Hazelfield would be a neat place to be at during the night (even during the day, too). Playing chess all night... could we feed llamas too?

@Terring - I just had a more detailed look at this entry, so I can make a more elaborate comment, which you definitely deserve. 

I have to say I really like the nighttime at Hazelfield. It's great that you actually managed to envision a town which remains active at night but, at the same time, is calm enough to offer a good night's rest to other citizens.

I never really understood why nighttime in a city must always mean wild parties, rivers of alcohol and loud music blasting out of the windows. In the past, night was a calm and regenerative experience. It almost seems like contemporary people are afraid of nighttime and do whatever they can to negate it...

I like nighttime and dark environments. In fact, my idea of an afterlife (if there is any) is a calm, relaxing, eternal night, filled with the sounds of crickets () and nocturnal birds - a well deserved rest, after a well-lived life.

I have to admit that there was a time where I was afraid of the night. It was when I suffered from insomnia... It was a harrowing experience for me... I managed to fight that through and my affinity to evenings and dark skies is back with me. 

I hope there are more city planners and designers like you out there. If there are, I think our future as city dwellers will be bright... or... in fact... pleasantly dark!

@TheMurderousCricket, thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. I love nighttime too, but it's not fun when you live in a big city full of ugly places, night pollution and the danger of falling into a criminal, and it's not fun when you live in a society that demands you to live only on day just to work and consume trash. I envision a future where people will not be forced to follow a very specific schedule and be free to live however they wish and set up their own schedule. Of course this require massive social changes, even a total redesign of our culture, but history is already full of such mayor changes, and the future might hide even bigger ones. This video will give you an idea of what I mean.

The last time I enjoyed nighttime was I think 15 years ago, when I was a student of the Technological Educational Institute of Ionian Islands in the small Zakynthos City. I wake up in 4:00 am and I had the Idea of exploring the city. It was beautiful. Very peaceful, very tranquil . A very beautiful feeling that you can't have it in the downtown of big cities, although even there you might find some calm pockets of peace. This is the feeling I want to bring to anybody when I make my cities and put them in nighttime, while mixing it with the potentials of a different and more free future society. A balance of action and peace, that things are more calm but still something is going on, that the city is getting a rest without reducing its momentum too much. Parties and drinking beer with friends is a neat way to spend your time, but it's not the only one.
