solarpunk Dawnville at night
@Raymond7cn, @CGMozart118, @Aleksey-kuznetsow, @tomz16, @mrsmartman, @Manuel-ito, @Dgmc2013, @mitsos, @sejr99999, @JP Schriefer, @Tonraq, @ByeByeBayou, @ohdude and @Dot: Thank your very much for your likes, your commends and your follows. Don't forget that Fairview is a CJ that evolves into the future. Our first towns exist into a near future, using technologies that are either under development right now or already exist but not in massive scale yet, but our later cities will exist in a more and more distant future, with ideas and abilities more and more advanced, strange and controversial. Always wanted a CJ that keeps evolving into the future, avoiding as much as possible the Space Age Stasis trope? Now you can have it
I'm deeply sorry for the delay, but my life right now is very busy. This summer I'm attending a season of studies that hopefully will help me finding a better job and I'm also working on a personal project that consumes me a lot of time. Our next town is already under development and pictures of its construction are coming soon. But for now, let's do something a little different. We've explored Dawnville at day. Now, how about exploring it at light?
Surprisingly, Dawnville looks very dark at night. It sure has some artificial lighting, but not something too much and too excessive.
That's a good thing, because it means that Dawnville managed to minimize the effects of another type of pollution, which is light pollution.
Light pollution is the excessive, misdirected or/and obtrusive use of artificial lighting during the night, which is blamed for compromising health, disrupting ecosystems, messing with astronomy and spoiling aesthetic environments. Light pollution causes problems in nocturnal wildlife, confusion in animal navigation, disorientation in migrating birds (which is even worse in cities with skyscrapers like New York), declination is plant species with night-blooming flowers, increase in anxiety, problems during sleep, car accidents, and even an increase in cases of breast cancer. And if you consider that most of the electricity we produce today is coming from polluting power plants that burn fossil fuels, you can realize why night pollution is more serious than you might think.
Of course there are some ideas to solve this problem, such as reducing the intensity of lights, redesigning the lightning plans to maximize efficiency while reducing energy consumption, and turning off the lights then we don't need them!
Let's go back to Dawnville right now. There are some islands of lighting in this sea of darkness, but not the opposite like in those large always-illuminated cities.
Lights are few and apart and sometimes come with different colors, just like the colonies on Mars.
Did you noticed something? All those trees surrounding the buildings can be work as light blockers too. By preventing the executive lighting from reaching further areas, those trees help reducing light pollution, which is obviously a good thing for both Sims and wild animals.
Overall, I'm happy with the result. A lot of darkness and just enough lights to illuminate the town
However if you know some ways to reduce light pollution even more, please let me know
OK, that looks a bit cyberpunk, right?
From the next entry we'll start building our new town. See you there
