2016-02-13_00012.thumb.jpg.b417ae2d6a7aeThis would be one of my favourite low-density assets! If the colours were right. I'm also not sure if this should be classified as a low-wealth buildings. This one was also added in the After Dark update, and just like many of the other added assets, it is quite large (> 500m²) compared to the other assets.

It also does not utilize colour variations, so the only thing we can do is replace the texture!

Default Stats

Improved Textures

I desaturated the brick texture and darkened the roof a lot. What do you think?

5) Suggestions for improvement:

I think the default architecture already looks good, maybe a bigger space in the front for a driveway, and the backyard floor texture might look nice with earthy-toned(terracotta) floortiles or no floor at all just grass and a short brick-pathway.

Btw, I found out about this from your reddit post.

It looks like a duplex without a second door. As currently lotted, I'd make it a 2-family building (low wealth). Re-lotting and giving a color mask could make it a single-family middle class home.

The bricks look great after your change

5) Suggestions for improvement:

To get more variation we could do some color variations. Atm the roof has the color map, so I did some quick suggestions. Other option is to change the color map to the brick area and have this red, a darker red, yellow and white. I'd be up for making that if we want that.

Then ofc some garden in the back :)

Yup, I was pretty surprised as well. :P I figured it the whole thing would change color (or none of it) so gave it a try to see how it affected the brick. Very strange they didn't use it - maybe someone forgot all about it. ;)

Well, that makes things easier and this asset even better (though the brick is still very bright)! Thanks for your investigation.

Np ^^

Turns out these asset reviews are a bit distracting for me. :P Messed around with a variation of this house to see if it was worth doing. Roof is a bit too saturated I'd say and the bricks aren't that visible (because I just slapped together a quick color mask). It's a nice change from my own assets and I still get work done on those, so it's okay. :P

Not bad. But your textures always miss the dirty, used look of the default assets.

The big problem with dual-colored roofs is that you will quickly notice repetition:

I plan on adding that, this was just a quick test to see if it was worth doing. :)  I plan on making the whole roof the same texture.

Edit: This is closer to what I want, but still not there. Roof needs more work, but the bricks with color mask are getting there. :)

1) Name this asset:

2) Rating (number between 0 and 10):

  • Architecture & Proportions: 8
  • Colour (with vanilla colour variations): 6 (I mean... what was the idea behind so bright roof...)
  • Colour (improved textures): 9 with the original red brick.. 10 with  Avanya's new brick colors !!!!
  • Illumination: 8 (Like all of the others.. lighting is just to bright... I mean, how many lights do those Cims have haha !)
  • Model & Texture Quality: 8
  • Decoration (props & trees): 8 (Always place for improvement)
  • Overall Rating: 8

3) Stat Classification (you can specify one or multiple values):

  • Zone Type (RCIO): R
  • Wealth Level ($, $$, $$$): $$
  • Density ([1 rural] – [10 megacity]): 3-4
  • Household & Workplace Count: 1
  • Ideal lot size (with garden/parking, 1x1 – 16x8): 4x5, 5x5, 5x6 to 8

4) Style Classification (you can specify one or multiple values):

  • Commonness ([1 rare, unique] – [10 widespread, large accumulations]): 2 - 3
  • Construction date (1800 – 2100): 1960 to Today
  • Continent or Region: Western part of the globe mostly but I would say it is pretty typical.
  • Architecture Style (if known): Prefrab house

5) Suggestions for improvement: This is a nice asset with the color variation on. But it desperately needs a front yard.. Suburban house in my mind shouldn't be so close to the street.

only a front yard? From the size of it, I would probably put 2 households into it.

I know, but i'm always counting the doors and it makes no sense for me to have two household if there is just one door. Except if the grand-parents live with the family :P. But yeah if we could add 1 other door on that front porch, I would gladly accept two household !

@Bolduck91 The building could still have a shared floor with multiple doors inside. Better think about the size. As I mentioned, this one is over 500m², so it could even be a home for 3 families.
