Greatest Misses

Is it me or has the talent in the CJ section reached a new level lately?  There's amazing stuff out there.  Some notable journals that have inspired me recently are: Pretoria Metropolitan Area by takemethere, My SC4 CJ Scrapbook by Ln X, Vista Del Mar: Simcity 4 Artiste by gviper, The Jade Bight by Dreadnought, Nyhaven Lower Columbia (AIN) by woodb3kmaster, New SorGun by SimCoug, P.R. Crastina's Travels by Tariely, and a few others.

I decided I need to up my game, so I started a new region.  Here's what I'm working on, if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.  After the first four shots of the new region are 11 of my "greatest misses."  These are pictures I either forgot to add to an entry, there's something that bothers me about them, or I didn't want to make the entry too long and they didn't make the cut.  Last are my favorite 5 shots from this CJ.  Thanks for the comments everyone!

SC4 car crashes can be quite epic sometimes - you were able to catch some great ones (or not so great, depending on if you are a sim) :)
I love you .gif scenes - and I'm looking forward to seeing how your new region develops.

Fantastic! And what's Kroger doing being closed the day before Thanksgiving! Wow! That's sacrosanct in the grocery business. The scenery/urban setting really are vibrant!

You sure did a great job capturing that Cali feel! Very nice shots - I love the palm tree-lined freeway curve in particular.

Interchange quit nicely, mostly logical only coming from the left on should watch out for the left and right have been switched around.Maxis only city´s some time get borred; custom lots sets allmost allway´s fit together in one way ore they other, roads wich are to bumpy doesn´t add either; theming on certain aspects is better done in sperate CJ. Second Zoo do look better, palm tree linening of hghway indeed awesome, well done !

It takes more patience than I usually have, but yeah it feels good to catch a good crash haha.  Thanks!

Seriously!  We can be mayor, city planner, treasurer, comptroller, city council, public relations, parks & rec., and God...but not grocery store manager haha.  Really though, I needed an explanation for the dummy sims who insist on making U-turns in weird places haha.  Thanks for commenting!

Thank you sir!  That was my goal, and the palm tree-lined freeway curve is my favorite screen shot of this CJ.  Thanks!

I'm not 100% what you mean by "the left should watch out for the left and right have been switched around."  If you could clarify that I'd appreciate it.  Thanks for the kind words, it's not a "Maxis only city" though, there's a ton of custom content that supports Maxis lots.  I know the freeway is bumpy, It's from about a year ago before I started with the slope mod and RHW.  If you could also clarify the "theming on certain aspects is better done in separate CJ" I'm curious what you mean by that.  Thanks for the comment kschmidt!

As in the picture of the Interchange you come from the left; f you want go up north this logical would be going left, instead you keep the right exit.If you want to down sout you must stay on the highway take the left exi viceversa, Smoother roads mod

makes roads twice as smooth so there aren´t those 1x1 angle bump but streched to 2 tiles angle smoothen out. When buiding a plugin directory some growable bat´s me turn up more often, maxis bat´s are obvious; afther playing some regions with the same set it can get annoying, swaping the plugin dir isn´t very usefull and can make games unplayable,; alternatively you can setup a userdirs where you have a different setup of the game Example startup line  "H:\Maxis\Simcity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUcount:1 -intro:off -w -UserDir:"H:\SC4 Europe\"

First the standard Simcity4 game dir, CPU count for stability, intro off to avoid the startup video, at the end the alternative game dir This dir works completly seperrate of the main instalation, only exception are some general settings like reconceling edges or video settings these need to be set from the main instalation ! Such a you can have a american, european, japanese or any theme setup with out the hasle of a heavy plugin directory wich you will feel at any startup of gameplay in a increased loading time ! CJ theming can be on cities, agruculture, transit networks, industrie, maratime, leisure lifestyle, nature or any seperate subject,  just watch my CJ.

Sineceely yours,

kschmidt

Thanks for the shout out and great to see you getting back into the game. I've been inspired myself to get back into it on a number of occasions based solely on new content I was seeing in the site - I think we all help each other out in that way. I like how you've switched over to the RHW and it looks like you already have a good hang of it. I'd recommend you also switch over to the real railway if you haven't yet already. Like the RHW it does take up a lot more space and is harder to build road networks around but it's realistic curves and junctions definitely make it worthwhile imo.

Thanks for the tip, I haven't tried it yet but I plan on using real railway.  RHW has been incredibly frustrating at times, but with a lot of practice it's worth it.  My task now is to try to fill in the empty areas in the interchange with parking lots or empty concrete.
