1880 Census – A Dream Deceived
Hellken, Gugu3, Forthwall, Vlasky, MTT9, Terring, Titanicbuff, sHnozZa, bhk5437, 89James89, Huston, grstudios, OlScare / Benoit, Hieronymus, AcaCZV:
Thank you all for your comments and support. Each one helps keep me focused on the next update.
NMUSpidey: Very interesting. It's a bit of a shame that he did that to himself, but it makes me very curious about what Mr. Finch has done in that other town a few miles away...
EDIT: Also, those pictures are just spectacular. The detailing is awesome. Great job.
-Thanks Spidey! Not to worry – we’ll catch up on Finch and the rest of the New SorGun crew in the coming weeks.
Alex_1210: My favourite CJ never ceases to amaze me, amazing entry, the city looks so real and full of life. Poor Delin ![]()
-Delin may be down, but don’t count him out yet ![]()
whiteboybob: pic 2. Id be mad. some jerk cutting the corner driving on my property
-Just hope they don’t have a gun…
Mithrik: Well, stuff happens... and sometimes, a deal can back-fire. Great update, hopefully, Delin will be a able to do something with what little land he still has.
-You never know – he’s a crafty fellow.
_marsh_: I finally took my time to actually read through the story of your cj rather than looking at a few pictures every few updates. I've got to say this is one of my favorite cj's out there, the story contributing well to that. Your region truly captures the feel of the real world despite just being a game.
Kudos to you. I'm anxious for the rest of the 1880 census updates as well as the future to come. Even though I may not comment much, I still appreciate your journal of this growing region very much. ![]()
-Thanks marsh, I really appreciate such a nice comment. The fact that you read through each of the past entries is the huge compliment.
ROFLyoshi: That update actually made me quite sad. I guess that's the way things could turn out.
-If you gamble big like Delin, you have to be prepared to lose it all.
Luiz P. Romanini: “The honest man might make that trade. A lesser man would snatch it away without remorse.”
The most beautiful phrase of this entry. Without any doubt the best story I've ever read in Simtropolis. And it's just in the beginning of season 2...
-Thanks Luiz! Sometimes an entry just comes together, writing wise, and I think the last entry fit into that category. Lately I find myself spending more time on the story than the actual pictures, but hopefully the quality of the images doesn’t suffer.
APSMS: There is some incredible detail work going on here. I have no idea how you are able to sacrifice all the work every time you update the city (even with backups of previous states); the time spent must be far more than I would ever be willing to take to learn. I still have a hard time believing that every lot seen (aside from the obvious) is grown. Incredible!
I really liked the picture of Stevens and Delin on their hike; Your previous work made me look for them, and even then I was surprised that they were actually in the picture. This is an interesting story; wouldn't it be funny if the swamp turns out to be some of the most valuable land yet? Though I guess RL (or historical fiction) doesn't really seem to work that way. BTW, how old is Stevens? Looking forward to future updates. This is a great story, with a good balance between pictures and text, too.
-I do find it difficult to develop areas that I had previously spent a lot of time getting to look right, but I think that only adds to the realism. Development does take time, energy and money and using the bulldozing and zoning tools in SC4 doesn’t quite convey that fact. BTW, I’m glad you spotted Delin and Stevens in the pic – I wasn’t sure if anybody would notice them. Stevens was born in 1822, which would make him a spry 58. (Delin was born in 1819, which is why they probably get along so well)
Monomass: One of the very best CJs! I love the old-timeyness of it and can't wait to see if you plan on moving your cities into the 20-century and beyond!
-To paraphrase Buzz Lightyear - To the 20th century and beyond!
