Like a Phoenix

Devonshire: Like a Phoenix
Arising anew from the ashes of battle, the city of Schulmericho has been fully restored. The City Planning Office, local government agencies and military planners have developed a new plan for the city. The old, walled part of the city has been largely restored, save for a section which will be left as it was after the siege as part of the memorial. “Old Town”, as the original city is now colloquially called, now hosts a military installation for the Army’s VI Corps located near the rebuilt and fortified ferry terminal. To the north and east of Old Town sits “New Town”; expanded facilities for the city, including a naval base and a rail station. Military engineers have restored the Queensferry rail system in liberated territory and can serve both industrial and passenger traffic. At present, the rail system connects Schulmericho to the Lake George area. As more of our territory is liberated, the possibilities for expansion are endless!
We begin exploring this strategic city by seeing the preserved ruins from the famous battle. (For your reference - Link 1: http://community.sim...ry-19455-siege/ Link 2: http://community.sim...0-siege-part-2/) A two block wide slice of the eastern city has been preserved as part of a war memorial. Some of the eastern walls still stand, while others are also in ruins and stand as silent sentinels of the length siege.

A permanent garrison is now stationed here. Fort Calico sits close to the ferry terminal, guarding this vital access point to the Tenne Sea while giving security to the city and its hinterland. The VI Corps is headquartered here and over 1,000 troops stay here while many others are deployed in the immediate area to keep the land secure from enemy attacks.

Victory Avenue leads to Fort Calico from Port Road

The Administrative Building looks very much like a castle. In addition to offices, it hosts the armory, mess hall and many other important functions.

Sentries can see several meows in every direction, giving advance warning of enemy advances

Two barracks quadrangles flank the center building
The ferry terminal has been rebuilt and is fully operational. It has been fortified with new walls and a new gate into the city, known as the West Gate. A stone watch tower nearby surveys the coast for enemy vessels in case the unthinkable happens. And, for better times, it can be used to help watch for ships in distress.

At the new eastern end of town, a new city gate, East Gate, has been erected to provide protection to this area. A new wall was not built here. Remnants of the eastern wall are still extant.

Let’s see what else is in the city. Some areas were relatively unscathed by the enemy bombardment, including Memorial Church and its lovely park-like square. Other parts have been rebuilt or expanded. One new addition is the opening of Blount College in Old Town. On the north side of the creek, an industrial cargo port and a naval base have been constructed. These are sure to bring Schulmericho back to the forefront of Schulminion economics.

Blount College

Memorial Church, in the heart of town

The new Municipal Auditorium is a great gathering place for concerts, plays and other performances. It sits on the edge of New Town on what was not long ago a hitly contested battlefield.

Over one of the scenes of the heaviest fighting, a new memorial park has been constructed. The entire memorial complex comprises of a sector of ruined buildings, a battlefield cemetery, an interpretive museum and various monuments. The auditorium is across the street from the museum and is anticipated to offer programming related to the site as well as entertainment for the masses.

Memorial Plaza has plenty of monuments

The nearby hilltop now features a triumphant lion statue and a flag

The battlefield cemetery
One new feature of town, and for all of Schulmania, is the conversion of the enemy rail network into a functioning transit system for the felines. Once the rail network had been discovered, our twin tasks were to sever it from lines leading into enemy territory and to develop vehicles suitable for rail transit. The Office of Military Technology collaborated with the Transit Office’s R&D Department to create the newest form of feline transportation: the steam engine!

Our first rail station – ever!

And heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s Johnny! I mean, here’s the steam engine. Of course, this one is named Thomas!

The rail line extends down to the naval base and seaport. We look forward to seeing this carrying many passengers and lots of freight in the years to come.

Schulmericho has arisen!
SPECIAL!! There’s a bonus feature to this chapter. A whole EXTRA set of all new pictures and stuff about Schulmericho… see below for the link!
