I actually think Taipei's opening ceremony was a little more impressive, but so was this one!

Anyway, I can definitely understand how much time college can take Andisart; release it whenever you feel ready!

Man, andisart must be zen or something. It takes a lot of dedication and patience to work on one model for 5 years. I eagerly await the SimOpening of this amazing piece of work.

To the people asking for when will it be released:

Maybe it would be a good idea just to sit down and wait. The author of this bat put five years on this project, it would be nice to respect his long-time efforts by showing only a minimal part of his patience by, again, sitting down and waiting.

After all, that project went on for five years, it won't hurt to wait a little more....

On a more on-topic and brighter note i really appreciate the pictures of the opening cerimony....it must have been surreal to look at it in-place!

I'm wondering about the quantity of fireworks used that night...

I can wait. The only thing i'm worried about is that this monstrosity of a building won't fit in any of my cities. But i'll find a way...

Dude, stop bumping this until Andisart comes back with an update. Anyway, he's away right now and will not be back for a few months. Until then, don't bump further than this post unless Andisart comes with an update.

ok folks, after spending all last year on SimMars Beta 3, I finally had some time over the holidays to work on Burj Dubai Khalifa (as it was officially renamed).

I finally switched to Mental Ray using Max 2011.

Most work done this time is in the area of the side building. I doubled the floor number to match real building and added sun blinds. Also the roof part was updated and the front part filled with more details. The glass texture is now reflective.

All still work in progress, as usual (and YES, the water texture is still a placeholder... and still NO please no questions about release date)

Man this thing's been in the works since 2005!

Andisart, the work in this is amazing! I'm wondering how this whole thing is going to work on a lot...it's not being split in multiple pieces or is it?

These guys are correct, after 6 six this project is still one the most prestigious and interesting!

Me thinks you could/should release that side building on itself as well! Looks fabulous 4.gif

    Good luck! =)

I bet this will be the first BAT that will ever have a constant 5 start rating. 3.gif I've been waiting for so long for to return to this, but like you said in PM. You'll return and I was VERY excited that you're going back to finish this. 4.gif

Wow - I was prepared for another bump-o-rama, but certainly not for an update! The reflective glass is definitely an improvement. I think the saturation of the flora and of those recliners is a bit too high, though.

    thanks for your comments 4.gif

Sgt Pepper, yes this will indeed be split in several renders using different LOD areas and then merged together in the Lot Editor with one main building file and the rest added as props. I did a successful test with scanline render with one LOD for the tower and two LODs for the base.

With mental ray I might have to increase this though, not sure yet what my laptop can handle.

T Wrecks, looking at the pic here on my work computer I see what you mean, the contrast does look too high on the recliners and flora. On my laptop at home it wasnt like this at all. Hm, seems to depend on what screen you're using.

To be on the safe side I will decrease the saturation on these. Kinda makes me wonder tho what else might look too bright on what screen 30.gif

    ok here's another update:

I added the railings along the water. Next I think I will work on the pools and a proper water texture.

this should be approx. zoom 5

I made some tests re: the pool water.

Here's what I got for reflective:

    water-test-generic-pool-waves-5.jpg

And this is what I got for see-through:

    water-test-pool-flipped-waves-5.jpg

I wud probably make the pool deeper a bit.

    all work in progress

I tend towards the see-through as this is more what it looks like on pictures. The reflective looks more like a river or ocean.

    what u guys think?

Reflective pool is interesting but too wavy at my taste for an artificial lake

    Anyway, really good work 4.gif

Firstly, been lurking in here for ages, Best Model ever!

Secondly, about the water, what about something like this?

    watera.jpg

(excuse the blurry objects, the two images don't quite line up)

This is just the reflective image at 40% opacity over the see through image. I think this looks better, because both options looked good, but I think the reflective one had too much noise, and the see through didn't have enough noise or ripples in it. The compromise looks good.

that looks good Hamish! I would even say the ripples could still be toned down. but the overall direction is good. I will see how I can do this. Any tips wud be very welcome 4.gif
