Silvio:  You first popped up back in mid-April, and thanks for the congrats.  They, btw, are richly deserved in the other direction.  ELS PIRINEUS is a work that amazes.  Is that the area I grew up learning back in geography classes called the Pyrenees Mountains?  Wherever you draw your inspiration from, you are creating a CJ that both amazes and delights with every visit- you have tamed the mountains without subjugating them.  I've been woefully deficient in not commenting yet...no longer.  New Haven is also a favorite- I'm pleased to say that I made the first comment after you started it.

Yes, it is, to be more exactly, in the small country of Andorra. It's more like a tribute to that area that I know so well, after spending there my winter vacations for the last 6 years.

Well, that inspiration comes from your little tutorials, other CJers like John, choco and Jeronij. If you check one of my latest updates, you will see a cheap copy of your streams. 9.gif

...

Finally, on May 29th

Land bridge, Land bridge,quote>

I can't do justice to the dancing bananas that followed.  I was really jazzed, though, that the info was helping folks out.

Didn't you spotted me, I was one of the dancers, going bananas, with the info from you about land bridges. 17.gif

...

So now, Silvio, you know what I mean when I post "We've got Mail."  It means I am taking the time to, and having the pleasure of getting back to tthe folks who make doing 3RR all worthwhile.  I'll be seeing you around, both here at Three Rivers Region and in ELS PIRINEUS and New Haven.

I really appreciated you've taken all this trouble to explain me this "We've got Mail". It's a hell of a task and it just makes this CJ even better and greater. Don't you ever stop doing this, and, just in case, do a backup of this region, plugins folder and of all this thread. It would be a shame if something happen like it did to Kinata.

Cheers to you too, and all your family.

Silvio

Cheers to you, too!

Your friend,

David

Well, if you can update a CJ from the road in Midland, Texas, you can probably do it from anywhere...

I'm using a Comfort Inn's wi-fi network, which I was able to connect up to effortlessly from my laptop.  I brought 3RR on a couple of DVDs I burned before I left...I'm also using Imageshack for the first time.  This. Is. Just. Too. Cool!

n.b.:  Enjoy this now, though. We're headed to the Big Bend area for the next few days.  I don't know if telephone service, much less wi-fi, is all that readily available down there.

Before I get started, let me aim you at page 13 of 3RR, where I continue to answer the mail a few folks at a time.  tag_one, bobbo662, and bat are three of the latest to get the...er...treatment.

    -----------------------------------------

I left the 'heliputer back in Alaska, so here's some stock pics from a township south of Wind River that has yet to be named.

    #1
    sec013du.jpg

Looks sort of flat and boring, eh?

    Well, unh-uh!

The town you see is Johnston Corners, a small rail services center that serves local agriculture.  The roundhouse and rail facilities are largely abandoned.  That's a portion of the outer 3RR beltway, as yet undesignated by "I' number, that bpassed the town when it was built about a decade ago.  The old road, now disused and losing its remaining pavement rapidly, parallels the freeway for a ways either side of town.

South River runs through the center of the township, making a large S-bend just south of town.  Pine Branch Creek enters from the west at the bottom of the pic.

    #2
    sec023mz.jpg

Moving in closer to Johnston Corners, we see the downtown, which is oriented on the old east-west road.  Main Street runs north to south.  We've not yet begun the process of weeding buildings here to create the "past its heyday" effect we'll look to create.  The new area of the town is north of the freeway, and the high-tech agriculture is developing off to the east.

I need to take a quick break, so I'll upload this and continue shortly.

I love the way your terraforming turns out!  The river looks great in this update, very realistic!  I like the way you use the trees to accent the terrain and give it more detail!

It's more like an S on its side, I guess.  And it is also more to the southeast of Johnston's Corners than directly south.

The rest of the Shameless Eye Candy post will be up in a while.  I had an unexpected RL interlude, but will be able to finish up within the next few hours as a continuation of the previous post.

The rest of this post, having been so rudely interrupted, follows...it started this morning earlier on this page.

Once again let me aim you at page 13 of 3RR, where I continue to answer the mail a few folks at a time.  I'll do three or four more responses tonight...who knows who will be next.

    -----------------------------------------

We were last looking at a view of Johnston's Corners, a small town south of Wind River Township.

    #3
    sec036lq.jpg

Moving in closer still, the mix of old and new shops in the center of town shows up clearly.

    #4
    sec045gy.jpg

The old roundhouse is still standing, but other rundown trackside areas have been cleared.

The intersection of Prairie Avenue and Main Street at the center of downtown.

    #5
    sec056vo.jpg

Here's the grain elevator and other trackside industrial development west of the town center.

    #6
    sec064yw.jpg

JC, as the locals call it, is still not such a bad place to live.

South of town, Pine Branch Creek heads west from where it drains into South River.  The Funston Hills rise south of the creek.

    #7
    sec072py.jpg

Here's the confluence of creek and river.  Note that the fine detailing has not yet been added along the shores of South River downstream of the railroad bridge on the far right of the pic.

    #8
    sec086is.jpg

A closer shot of the lower creek upstream of its mouth.

    #9
    sec092bp.jpg

Camp Point, on the south bank of the creek at the river, is a popular place for the many boaters who enjoy South River's calm waters and good fishing.

    #10
    sec102un.jpg

Here's the middle section of Pine Branch creek in this township.  Note that both road and rail go through short tunnels over the high ridge that parallels the creek on its south side.

    #11
    sec115yz.jpg

The upper waters of the creek.  Note the transition here between "game" and surface water.  I'm still working on making a more "seamless" shoreline at these transitions, and will keep you posted.

    #12
    sec129ma.jpg

A last shot- closeup of the transition.  I predict big strides in surface water realism over the next few months (but then I may have some inside information.

    sec134ic.jpg

That's your 3RR Shameless Eye Candy for today.

We'll complete Update No. 10 within this week.

    Later.

    Hi David,

Flat and boring... reminds me of a teacher I had in...

    humm....

    back to topic.

Yes... it's flat.... and yes... it's boring....

Nahhh!...... 18.gif  Well.... I guess that if you live there and revel in night life Vegas style, you're in for a lot of dissapointment... though for someone who fancy tranquility above all else... then this is surely paradise.

That small "downtown" is really typical, with the KFC and several other small business.

As usual your river banks superdetailling is to die for.... well..... not die really, cause then one wouldn't be able to admire your scenic creations.... let's say enticing...

    **that's not good enough**

    what... what? who said that?

    **me**

    me who?

    **mew?**

    no not mew, me who?

**I did not say mew mew!**

    W H O    A R E    Y O U!

**OHH!  ME  WHO!  well ....I'm your conscience**

oh, HI there....I guess!  what did you mean by not good enough?

**well.... look at the situation, you have a poor soul, lost in Midland TX some God foresaken place **

Wait.... wait.... Texas is not that bad a place! ..... is it?

    **Just look where he is....**

    davelostinboondock5gr.jpg

**and tell me this poor guy doesn't need compassion and some better support than "enticing..."**

Oh! I see what you mean! Now could you just sign off, I don't like you watching me type!

**sheesh....the nerve of some people, you help them then, pfff... alright leaving leaving!**

Hey David still there? sorry 'bout that some uninvited guest and... where was I? Oh yes....

did I say "enticing" I meant ravishing! great!

    BTW how's your moral???

    EXITING BANTER ZONE.....

Liked your update a lot my friend, superb work as usual.

Just tought you'd like something to read while on the road...  2.gif

    Take care

I must say, your tutorials and pics are awe insipring. You have solved three of the questions/curiousities I have been having (land bridges, water clarity, convincing streams). A great sense of humor too (I notice you are a lawyer... is this one of the side effects? I'm planning a career in it (law) myself, so I want to know if I should brace for impact). Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve next.

You know, it's funny, on my recent trip to Iowa, I had less trouble with the WiFi at a Super 8 than at a Hampton Inn... go figure...

We're headed for Big Bend country this moring, so there may not be anything new from me 'til mid-next week or so when we return to (quote-unquote) civilization in Midland (Texas).  Midland-Odessa, btb (and I hope I'm not offending any 3RR fan here) is the center of the middle of nowhere.

There was a four-inch tarantula walking across our hotel room window yesterday morning.  Thinking like a lawyer, I quickly formulated a plan to go and tell the desk that my family and I were traumatized by the event, and we wanted a full refund...

...but decided that would be wrong.  Or worse, it might not work.

Anyway, GaBoR, fallon144, Kwakelaar, Tracker, Rayden, GMT, ElBarto92, Darmok, chocolatemax285, JoeMeister, bat, Tommy_Vercetti3, Yoman3, jacqulina, threestooges, and tchaos713, thanks for the recent posts.  I'll write more when I'm not in haste.

    Take care.

    David

And as for going somewhere else, who knows?

Eh, don't you need to update your region view in the background of that header?

Who would have thought pictures of rivers could be so interesting. The amount of detail you put around them is truly breathtaking, and leaves for some great scenic pictures. Your river tutorials have also been very inspiring, and really show the potential of the innovative ploppable water.

    Well...

    bbt011wy.jpg

    Been there, done that...again.

I lived in El Paso for two one year stints in the late 70s and early 80s.  BBNP was a frequent weekend destination.

Now I know where brtim2 gets his inspiration for Terketmek.

    bbt037mw.jpg

The interior of Santa Elena Canyon has gotten no less awesome over the past quarter-century.

    bbt049di.jpg

West Texas sunsets are still world-class, too

    bbt070kv.jpg

So this post isn't completely OT...

    ...hey, holy mackerel, what's this?

    swr012pa.jpg

Surface water rapids on the STEX?

    swr024sg.jpg

    Nahhhh...not today.

But maybe tomorrow.  I'll also try to post the rest of the responses I've written to the "We've got Mail" posts back on page 13.  Who knows?  I might be responding to what you posted at 3RR in [ shamefaced blush ] April.

    Later.

You're really a "bad boy" aren't you? Those tree in front of the rapids was on porpose so we could't spot how you do it. Nahhh, just joking with you, but, I have a pretty nice idea how you did it. Let's see when you tell us, if I was right.

    Cheers

You wouldn't want those canyon walls to fall in, would you? Anyway, nice concept, I'll have to start playing around with ploppable water, etc. in the near future. Keep up the great work/play.
